About us

Residential and commercial heating, Air conditioning and ducting installation and repair. Best prices, quietest AC units available, longest warranties up to (12 years) Family owned and operated We take a different approach when it comes to repairs and new installations. In most circumstances, we will send you an online quote first. Our quotes include Type written, brand, model numbers, AC noise level and foot print. Other quotes will not include all of these items. Watch out for hand written quotes. if you like our quote, we will then schedule a technician (Not a sales rep) to stop by and take a look at your home. The technician does not discuss pricing. He is just there to take a look at the technical side. The appt. usually takes about 20 minutes. 98% of the time the price stays the same. Sometimes the price will be lowered if there are items that you do not need that are on the quote. It is a rare occasion when the price increases. We don't try to sell you anything. We look out for your best interest. I say "If the customer is old enough to be your grandparent, treat them as if they are your grand parent. Act like you are giving advice to your mother, father, sibling, etc. My name is Vanessa McKenna (Serrao) my maiden name. I am the sole owner of Polar Bear Heating and Air My father Vito Serrao owned an HVAC company for many years. I started working for him in 1978 I have been in this trade ever since. I'm not married to any brand of equipment however, I will not install Lennox (No way) Getting some parts is a week wait. Trane/American Standard is a great brand but the price is too high. Carrier / Bryant used to be my go to brand until they started having a compressor issue. Goodman is not so good. Goodman allows HVAC companies to put their own name on the unit. I am sure it is because Goodman has a bad name and they want to hide it. Visit my website for much more information polarbearheatingandair.net

Great contractor. Excellent quality for a fair price. We had a complete new HVAC system installed and the whole process was great. Responsive, professional, quality work.

Excellent. The technician, Carl arrived on time, showed me exactly what the problem was, and had the new furnace ordered and installed the next day. The work was professional and neat, as Carl cleaned up any mess and took away the old unit. Would use Polar Bear again, but suspect this furnace will last a long time!

The staff were very helpful in providing a proposal in a timely fashion, and said they would have someone out to work on our problem the next day at 8:00 AM. And, sure enough, Carl was there right on time! I can’t tell you how much we appreciate this as it seems that there is either a window of time provided, or someone does not show up on time. He spent about 10 hours working on our unit (and we had AC running when he was done), and said he would be back the next day to check the heat. Again, he was right on time. Carl had a great work ethic and we couldn’t get him to stop cleaning up! This was a great experience for us.

I contacted the owner , she informed me they would not replace the furnace because it was apparently fixed and would only repair the unit over the next 12 years under the manufacturers warranty. Update 2/15/16 The reply from Vanessa McKenna is totally inaccurate and looks like she wants to cover up their failure to install my furnace properly. The Manufacturer through its Distributor sent out a Factory Field Representative on January 4, 2016 and he removed the entire blower unit from the furnace due to the damage from the metal screw that Polar Bear Heating and Air's installer carelessly left in the blower unit. He replaced the entire blower unit and the furnace then performed quietly and apologized for Polar Bear's unprofessional installation of my furnace. He did not just tighten a few screws as the owner of Polar Bear Heating And Air, Vanessa McKenna stated to cover up for the companies horrible failure to install my furnace properly.
Response from Polar Bear Heating and Air
"Truth be told. We installed a Maytag furnace. This customer called us out because of a rattling sound. We immediately responded by sending our technician out. Our technician found a loose screw, removed the screw ran the furnace noise was gone. Customer requested we install a new furnace in case there was damage to his furnace. There was absolutely no damage. Customer called out Maytag distributor. They also refused to replace the furnace as there was no damage. They tightened up the unit and left his home."

I decided to have refrigerant added and have my unit serviced. My experience with Polar Bear has been very good, I originally called and left a message. The owner Vanessa called me back and worked me in early the next morning at 8 AM which I appreciate especially since we have had record high temperatures and humidity. I appreciate that the problem was explained to me. The price for the service and work was very good and an additional 10% off was given for being an Angie member. This is a company you can trust.

I cannot say enough good things about Polar Bear Heating and Air. We had one of those "70.00 specials" to come and inspect the furnace. Not complaining about the inspection service, nor their findings. HOWEVER, when it came time to price the replacement furnace - they were both outrageous in price and limited in information. So my search and homework began. After hours of scouring the internet (Angie's list included) and making numerous phone calls over the span of a couple days - Polar Bear was THE BEST! Vanessa (owner) took all the time I needed to answer all my questions, provided straight forward information on furnace brands, scope of work that would be needed and then came the big moment - EXCELLENT pricing.
The technical who showed up (I wish I remembered his name) was also TOP Notch. He took one look at the furnace set up and rattled off exactly what needed to be done - clearly he was at the top of his game and knew what he was doing. The results= Superb! Furnace installed, he added a new door to make the filter replacement twice as easy and left with the job site immaculate - what more can you ask for!
I will keep using Polar Bear for all my heating and A/C needs and would certainly recommend them to anyone needing A/C or Heating repair.

Early one November morning our 49 year old heater shot craps on us so I knew it was time for a new heater.  I called two heating and air conditioning companies and one of them came out to our house and gave us a quote for replacing just the heater.  Vanessa from Polar Bear gave us a quote over the phone that was almost half as much as the other company.  Granted the heaters were different manufacturers but I can't get over a near 2 to 1 price differential of the same 80% effeciency.  Based on the price of the heater and the fact that it was so misserably hot this past summer, my wife and I decided to have a new Maytag 3.5 ton air conditioner installed along with the heater.  Carl, who was the primary installer, looked in our attic and discovered numerous leaks in our old ducting.  He said we could go one of two ways on the ducting.  We could have the leaks in the ducting sealed for approximately $500 but since they are the original ducts there is hardly any R value associated with them to retain both the hot and cold air that will be blowing through them and as such we would be wasting energy.  The other option, which we chose, was to remove the old ducts ($650 because we had asbestos associated with the ducts) and have new ducts and registers installed ($1,200) that had an R value of about 6 to retain more of the heating and air conditioning when they are being used.  My only complaint is a mild one and it had to do with Carl telling me  a few times during the installation that he would be to our house between 8 and 9 in the morning and then wouldn't show up until 11 or 12.  Outside of that everything went well and we passed city inspection and the heater is working great.  Hopefully come summer we can say the same thing about our new air conditioner.

Vanessa was very helpful and provided details of products and pricing over the phone unlike many others wants to meet you face to face then hard sale or simply wants to charge you an additional Service Charge for service recommendations.
Once the Product and Price was agreed upon, Vanessa was very helpful to schedule the installation with my tenant.
Upon inspection of the projects, both my tenant and I were very pleased with the entire experience.
Instead of a 4 ton unit, I went with a 5 ton Maytag unit which is still much cheaper then other 4 ton units the competitors quoted.
I would strongly recommend Polar Bear Air and Heating and already considering another replacement project in the future.

My husband and I were very pleased with the efficient work .
Right on time , and finished promptly .

We are so happy to our heating and air working again.
She even did extra work at no charge.

Polar bear A/C was excellent. Great at communicating and promptness. Vanessa was helpful in answering all my questions and even called after service was complete to make sure we were happy with the work and that the crew was professional. Which they were. I am very happy and will be recommending them to anyone who wants a great job in a timely manner. They also hung all ducts in attic so we didn't loose storage space( this was done without us having to ask) Vanessa knew we wanted to use our attic for storage so she made sure this was done for us. I look forward to using them on any future A/C work we have done.

We lived in our Cordova home for almost 30 years.  The previous owners added on a 300 sq. feet
Family Room with vaulted ceilings.  The Family Room got very hot in the Summer, as well the upstairs Master BR.  The airflow was never sufficient.  Vanessa, the owner of Polar Bear Heating figured a way to add extra ducts to both the Family Room and Master BR, as well as upgrading the main duct from 10 inches to 14 inches.  The A/C and heating unit that came with the house was undersized, especially with the room addition.  I couldn't believe how cool those problem areas are  now, that Vanessa sized the A/C system that is proper for our home.  I can not say how

The furnace had to be installed inside the house and they had some young guys that installed it. I was disappointed because they scuffed the walls which I am going to have to repaint and damaged the molding around the door that they had to put it into. They had to send a technician out to fix the wiring and they were prompt in doing that, but I was disappointed in their execution.
Response from Polar Bear Heating and Air
"It is very disappointing to receive this kind of review from a valued customer. This is a first for Polar Bear Heating and Air. Member was not at home when the system was installed. He did call me about the scuffed wall and molding. Unfortunately this can happen when working in a tight area as I am sure most HVAC contractors will agree. The most important issue is how a company deals with the issue. I told Member during our phone conversation that we would come out and take care of the scuffed wall and molding around the door. He said he wasn't going to be around and he would call me to schedule a time to come out. To date, I have never received a call to fix the scuffs or molding. Actually, I have never even seen these minor corrections. Looking at our service records, I can see that George had a service request which was handled immediately. In all honesty, minor mishaps can occur during the installation of an HVAC system. Normally, if we see any minor damage we will inform the homeowner and take responsibility by fixing the damage. Prior to writing a negative review on any public forum, I would think that the customer would give the company an opportunity to correct the problem 1st. After all, not all installations go smoothly and the most important factor is how the company handled the issue. If Member would have just called back as he said he would, I am sure that he would have been 100-% satisfied and this would have been a very positive review. My offer still remains. Give us the opportunity to come out and fix the scuffs and molding. Sincerely, Vanessa McKenna"
