"One circuit in our home went out and left us without power in the master bedroom and parts of the garage including the garage door opener. We already had another electrician come by who diagnosed the problem as a lost neutral and "recommended" that we hunt down it down ourselves as it would take time and the charges could stack up. Sounded reasonable. We decided to get a second opinion and stumbled on John on Nextdoor. We spoke in the morning and he called back and said he could come by at 3pm. In less than 30 minutes, he diagnosed the problem (lost neutral) AND found a workaround. We had power back, John installed a GFCI in the garage, chatted with my wife and kid and charged me less than the first electrician. He not only did a great job, his fees were reasonable and cheaper than the first guy who didn't fix anything. He even accommodated our request to wear booties inside the house. Just a great guy to work with. John was right, I called the wrong guy the first time. Would definitely call John again next time we need an electrician. Plus my kid loves his Irish accent."

"Overall it went smoothly without major hitches. There we some delays in getting the windows delivered but that was not on the company. I also did not negotiate to paint the exterior window frames which would have been easy to do at the time of installation. Because it is a second story unit I had to pay someone to do this after the windows were installed. But besides that it was a good experience and was done without issues and it was on time. Their price was competitive. The folks who did the work and the estimates were friendly and professional and the quality of work was excellent."

"Carlos recently completed an update of our bathroom, which was very outdated with old fixtures and badly peeling paint. He prepped, painted, and installed new fixtures and lighting in the bathroom, as well as installing 2 ceiling lights in the rest of the house. We are very happy with the results, and what a pleasure it was to work with him. He  was prompt, reliable, easy to work with and very responsive to what we needed. He left the work area looking great at the end of each day, and completely cleaned everything up at the end of the job. Our bathroom is transformed! Lastly and importantly, his prices are extremely reasonable and significantly lower than other estimates that we got. We will definitely hire him again, and we are passing his name on to our friends.

"I recently had the pleasure of working with Adolfo, Geraldo, and the team at MGM Construction to remodel two bathrooms, one of which involved significant structural changes in our primary bedroom. As a first-time homeowner, I was nervous about the remodeling process, but Adolfo made it an incredible experience from start to finish. He was patient with my indecisiveness and guided me every step of the way, always willing to try new ideas and encouraging me to trust the process. His sense of humor and willingness to collaborate on design decisions made the entire experience enjoyable and fun. Adolfo has exceptional taste and attention to detail, and his professionalism was unmatched. My husband also wanted a sky light (that was a must-have for him) and he worked diligently with a different group of roofers to help ensure this part of the project went off without a hitch. Plus the bathrooms turned out amazing, the photos don't do it justice! Adolfo and his team were always on time, protected our floors, and made sure to clean up every day so our home life wasn’t disrupted. I had heard horror stories about contractors, but Adolfo and his team were a dream to work with. In fact, the experience was so positive that we decided to move forward with additional projects we had planned to hold off on. I have yet to find a project, task, service that this man cannot build, improve, or fix. If you're looking for a professional, talented, and reliable contractor, I can’t recommend MGM Construction highly enough! We certainly will be using MGM and Adolfo for all future needs!"

Bathroom Fan Installation questions, answered by experts

The more surface area that a ceiling fan blade has, the more effective it will be at producing airflow. Therefore, a longer ceiling fan blade is the better option if you’re looking for more wind. However, a longer blade will consume more energy than a shorter blade.

If you think your fan needs to be oiled, the first thing that you have to do is cut the power to the fan. The best and safest way to do this is by flipping the circuit breaker that leads to that room.  Depending on the model of your fan, you may need to remove a cover. Look for a hole labeled oil. If there isn't one, check the manual or look for schematics online. Once located, use the recommended lubricant or spray.

There are many types of ceiling fans, each with specific features and advantages. Standard ceiling fans are a traditional choice suitable for most spaces and can be made from materials like plastic, wood, metal, or fiberboard. For rooms with low ceilings, low-profile fans are a better fit. Other specialized types include smart fans, which you can control with a smartphone or voice commands, and dual-motor fans that provide increased airflow in multiple directions. For energy savings, Energy-Star certified fans can be up to 60% more efficient than standard models, helping to lower your utility bill. You can also find fans with built-in lights, fans with retractable blades, and large ceiling fans designed for spacious rooms with ceilings between 10 and 25 feet high.

Most people describe the sound of an unbalanced ceiling fan as a buzzing or grinding noise. This is caused by the parts of the fan rubbing or rattling against each other as the blades spin. However, a wobbling fan can also make squeaking, rattling, or thumping sounds, depending on the severity of the balance issue.

Fan power is measured by CFM, or cubic feet per minute. For every 1,000 feet of square footage in your attic, you need a minimum of 700 CFM. Steeper roofs may need larger fans or about 840 CFM.  You can figure the size of attic fan you need by multiplying the square footage of your attic floor by 0.7. (multiply by 1.2 for a steep roof and 1.15 for a dark roof). That number is the CFM required for your fan to run efficiently.
