"Phill's employee Joe came out and did a great job. I had a really hard time finding a plumber who would also drill the hole in the pre-existing counter but they knew what they were doing and did a nice clean cut without damaging my granite counter. Joe even went to HomeDepot to purchase a air gap cover to match my existing kitchen faucet. Thank you Phil and Joe for coming through for me on such short notice. I really appreciate it!"

"They were good know what they are doing. Have the right equipment for any job. On time, courteous, answer all questions. I sent a picture of my project to the office, and they gave me a max cost to complete the work. Then the actual plumbers came out to make sure about the job. Came out the next morning and completed the job. It took about an hour or so."

"This was a difficult project, owing to the no-cripple-wall construction of my house and the ridiculously tight crawl space - less than a foot in critical spots - plus the maze of beams and ducts. I called six or seven plumbers to come out and bid the work and two of them ran screaming (well, not really, they just told me they needed to work up an estimate 'back at the office' and never called back). One guy swore I'd have to rip out a wall AND the floor to get to the pipe. Mr. Rooter didn't propose anything so dramatic. They just said they'd excavate as needed to make room to move around. So that's what they did. They billed it as a two-day job. They showed up on time, and the work was wrapped up by the third hour of the second day. Because that, I was concerned this job had been overbilled. Their bid had been astronomical, but it was still lower than everyone's except the guy with the lapsed bond. Mr. Rooter had been willing to negotiate and I knocked about $650 off their initial bid. They took another $200 off at the back end because of my concern with overbilling. They didn't have to do that since they had a signed contract in hand, but they were willing to take care of a customer. Thumbs up for that. The work looks solid, as far as this layman can tell. Everything drains as it should and none of the joints leak."

Affordable Plumbers questions, answered by experts

Watch for slow drains, as mature trees in older Fullerton neighborhoods cause root intrusion in sewer lines. You should also check for rust-tinted water, which indicates corroding pipes in mid-century homes. Since expansive clay soils shift and stress underground lines, investigate any sudden water bill spikes or water stains on your walls. Finally, address dropping water pressure immediately, as local hard water creates severe scale buildup inside your plumbing.

Helpful?

Schedule underground plumbing work before the rainy season, as saturated clay soils increase stress on lateral lines. You must install low-flow fixtures to meet CA drought regulations and secure water heaters with seismic strapping for earthquake safety. Always hire licensed contractors to ensure your upgrades meet local codes. Finally, monitor your usage, because adding irrigation or new fixtures quickly pushes your household into a higher local water billing tier.

Helpful?

Homeowners underestimate the time required for permit approvals and inspection schedules during plumbing projects. You must also account for sewer lateral repairs, as you own the line running from your house to the city main. Additionally, verify your home's waste system, since some local properties use septic tanks. Finally, CA restricts certain salt-based water softeners, so confirm your filtration plans comply with statewide water recycling regulations before starting work.

Helpful?

You must decide whether to pull permits yourself or authorize a licensed contractor to handle the paperwork. During your plumbing project, you are responsible for coordinating work hours and shutoff access with your HOA. If inspections reveal sewer lateral damage, you dictate whether to repair or fully replace the line. Additionally, you must select pipe materials and choose your water heater type to ensure compliance with Fullerton seismic and energy standards.

Helpful?

Identify your home's construction decade, as older properties contain deteriorating cast iron or galvanized pipes. Note your foundation type, because slab-on-grade homes face higher risks for slab leaks due to local soil movement. Review past permit records to uncover any unpermitted plumbing modifications. Finally, map out the mature trees in your Fullerton yard, as aggressive root systems heavily dictate how professionals approach underground drain and sewer lateral work.
