"Our HVAC unit wasn't working and was recently repaired by another shop.  After a couple of weeks, it stopped working again.  The other repair shop couldn't figure out what was wrong...after replacing the board and fuses.  They claimed the unit was old and we needed an electrician to fix the electrical problem.
The appointment with Duke started off poorly...he forgot about the appointment.  After calling to ask where he was, he made it over in 45 mins.  We wanted Duke to give us an estimate to replace the Heater and A/C unit.  He took measurements and drafted up an estimate to replace the HVAC, roughly $4500.  Then he asked what was wrong with the unit.  Out of curiosity, he looked at the wiring and replaced the fuse.  After, the fuse blew out a number of time, he was able to figure out a wire had melted and was causing it to blow the fuse.
So after spending $300 with another company to replace the board and having the unit still not work, Duke was able to fix it for $150 (service call).  Then told us the unit should be good for another 5-10yrs.  He may have lost out on a $4500 job replacing the unit and getting only $150 for a service call, but he's going to be our first call the next time we ever have a repair job and eventually replace the unit.  It's great to find honest, competent repair guys like Duke!!  Thanks!

"I first contacted Valley to get a quote on how much it would cost to get air conditioning installed. I live in an older town home that is approximately 1100 sq. ft. They sent someone out to take a look and see what was involved. He was very professional and explained what was involved including getting permits from the city. He quoted the amount and provided me with an invoice. I contacted them 3 months later to say I was ready for the install. The installation turned out to be quite challenging due to the way my home is constructed, but Valley made it work. The service person had to stay a few hours longer but I wasn't charged anything extra for it. They stuck with the amount of the estimate that was quoted. It's only been a couple of months since the install, but I have to say my only complaint at this point is how cold it gets when I turn on the air. But that's a nice problem to have. :)"

"Global Comfort installed a full HVAC system in my home; 7 new runs for air, new AC unit, new furnace and a new Nest thermostat, all electrical needs. Rudy and his team are respectful, efficient, punctual, competitive in pricing. Rudy walked me through running the system for its first time and explained all the stuff for a brand new system in a house that never had AC. I'm very thankful for the work they did. Highly recommend because their customer service is top notch."

"John did an amazing job with our HVAC system! From the moment he arrived, he was professional, knowledgeable, and took the time to explain everything clearly. His workmanship was top-notch, and he made sure everything was working perfectly before he left. It?s hard to find someone who genuinely cares about doing quality work, but John definitely does. If you?re looking for an honest, reliable HVAC contractor who takes pride in what he does, I highly recommend John. I couldn?t be happier with the service!"

"I highly recommend Aire Serv of Campbell & Saratoga to anyone in need of HVAC services. Alton helped me find the right system that works for our home within my budget. Alton was knowledgeable and truly explained the different options & HVAC available that would fit for our home. Alton answered all my questions with patience and expertise. The installation crew (Rene & Julio) were on time and explained the complete removal our old system and installation of the new HVAC. They treated my home with respect, cleaned up thoroughly after the job. I like their attention to detail and commitment to doing the job right the first time. Thank you for making our home energy efficient. I'm happy with the results."

"Michael, the estimator, came out and got all the information. He was very professional and even talked about various different options including putting the heater in the attic. He was very knowledgeable. I chose to go with another company, but I believe that Albert Nahman Plumbing and Heating would have done a great job on the work proposed."

Heating and Air Conditioning questions, answered by experts

Signs that your air conditioner capacitor is bad or failing include a range of symptoms. The AC unit may not turn on at all, or it might struggle to start before shutting down randomly or in the middle of a cooling cycle. You might hear a humming or banging noise when it attempts to start, or the compressor might hum without the unit actually running. Other indicators include a smell or smoke coming from the unit, the blower circulating room-temperature air instead of cold air, and an unexpected increase in your energy bills.

Excessive humidity in a room often manifests through visible signs like condensation on windows or walls, a musty or damp odor lingering in the air, peeling wallpaper or paint, and the presence of mold or mildew. Experiencing discomfort due to a consistently clammy or sticky feeling can also indicate high humidity levels.

While your AC unit may still run even if its capacitor is going bad, doing so takes a lot more energy, so it can drive up your electric bill and cause further damage to your AC unit’s parts. If you suspect a bad capacitor, it’s important to have a professional diagnose and fix the problem before you continue to run your AC.

You can air condition your Arizona room by extending your home’s existing HVAC system or adding a ductless mini-split system. Arizona rooms that have full windows rather than screens only are a better choice for air conditioning—screens will let the cold air out as fast as the air conditioner can make it.

For washable or electrostatic air conditioner filters, you can soak and rinse them with water. If you rinse the filter with water, make sure to use a faucet, shower head, or garden hose with a gentle water pressure setting, as strong water pressure could damage the filter.

But for disposable filters, water could ruin the filter, even allowing mold to grow in the filter. Instead, these filters should be replaced.
