"Huft Home Services replaced my regular HVAC company when the owners retired. Comfort Master had installed my system in 1995 so we had a 25-year personal relationship. Ed and Donna were still using hardcopy records. When I called Huft on May 12 and talked with Elizabeth, we were able to confirm and establish the status of my ongoing services. We discussed the 2 different areas of work needed, HVAC regular maintenance and an urgent plumbing service for a leaking irrigation valve system. We scheduled the irrigation repair quickly, but I was very disappointed to discover that the repair person was unable to do that work and found out that Huft actually did not work on irrigation. Fortunately I was able to find a provider who came out the next day and did exceptional work – I highly recommend Authentic Landscape/Salvador Gallardo for that work. However, rather than make a complaint, I figured I'd wait to see how the HVAC service went. That appointment was scheduled for a couple weeks later. Anthony was fantastic. He called to let me know he was running late from his previous job. Maybe it was just because I wasn't up on current services, but I am highly impressed that he was able to take many photos of my system and his work – and instantly email them and my invoice to me! He went over in great detail the status of the equipment and anticipation of potential repairs needed over time along with likely cost estimates. We also discussed possible replacements for when I decided I was ready for a new unit. I will certainly continue my maintenance with Huft, and not just because I'm prepaid for a couple more years of biannual services."

"Perfect Star sent a technician out to assess my HVAC issue. and it turned out to be my ducts had been torn apart by critters getting into my crawl space and trying to nest. I got a crawl space cleanup crew to address that problem but Martin (my HVAC technician) told me about an air purifier that could be installed to my HVAC units. He installed those for me right away and they are working great."

"They did a fabulous job. They were in and out, and so very conscientious about the flooring and cleaning up well. They cleaned the ducts and the furnace area. Price was wonderful. I would highly recommend them to anyone. Outgoing, personable and nice."

"Rick replaced my HVAC system. The process was seamless. We scheduled an appointment to inspect the existing system, and the available options were openly discussed. All of my questions were answered in a timely manner. There was no pressure to choose one system over another. In comparing his estimate to other companies, I found that I'd saved a lot of money. We discovered an incompatibility between the new equipment and the yet to be installed alarm system. Rick worked closely with the alarm company to make to marry the two systems. We gave the go ahead and the new system was installed in a day. The installation crew was polite and professional and so very careful to clean up afterwards. Thank you, Bragg Home Services. Yes, I recommend this company"

"The company itself I cannot comment-on...only the repairman that came to my house. I got the distinct impression that he was just starting-out repairing furnaces. To sum-up the experience, I would use the expression "A bull in a China shop". He has not followed-up on his initial work. I dont know whats happening. The problem is that I think many (all?) HVAC shops had a meeting, and agreed on an initial visit price, viz., $89. Coincidence? I dont think so. Net result is that makes it difficult for me to call-it-quits for this shop, and try-out another. I would be spending another $89 each time. Clever how they did that."

"Dispactcher easily accomodated my schedule. Dispatcher asked for 4 hour window, I asked for 3, tech showed up in 75 minutes from start of window.
$85 initial visit fee. I assumed, because I didn't ask, it was applied to the total work to be done, but maybe it was.

Tech was friendly and had both plumbing and HVAC experience, a big plus. Tech said in these circumstances, the company likes to book techs that have both experience so one call takes care of problem. Identified the problem, had the parts to fix the leak in HVAC condensation drain that we both suspected. Described what he suspected, got my sig for estimate, and showed the leak in the system before proceeding. Showed me the hack job the previous installer did, described clearly they didn't do drywall work, cut a clean hole in drywall, instructed on a quick way to patch that worked!. Excellent craftsmanship replacing kinked plastic hose with copper, and an easy clean out for future clogs.

Tech talked positively about his experience with employer. Wore shoe coverings in our less than pristine house. Top flight job. I wish it was $275 instead of $360+ but leak stopped and very pleased. I will call them again, and take lunches instead of eating out for 3 weeks."
Our team at Bonney helped restore flow at this Sacramento home by performing a sewer spot repair on the main line for our customer. This involved locating the problem area, digging the trench, snaking the line to clear the drain, repairing a section of the sewer pipe, and then backfilling the space to restore back to the original landscape.

"I had a great experience with the professionalism that Ramirez Duct cleaning gave us. They were very knowledgeable with HVAC questions I had. Also took the time to show me the ducts before and after so I could see the big change that they had made. It was like night and day. Also gave me the information i needed on the upkeep for the unit. We will recommend them to all my family and friends. Thanks again!"

"We received a call almost immediately after contacting Home Advisor and scheduled the technician for today 07/02. He arrived promptly, went to work on our problem and, because we've never had this type of work done before I can't comment on the cost...but I felt it was very reasonable. In fact, the technician, Tyler, is coming to our house tomorrow to check the HVAC."

Heating and Air Conditioning questions, answered by experts

The compressor is the heart of your AC system and is one of the most important parts required to keep it functioning properly. If your AC unit is making a popping, banging, clanging, clicking, or screeching sound, it could point to a problem with the compressor. If the unit is physically vibrating, that can also be an indication that your AC compressor is going bad.

Freon will go in the refrigerant lines near the back of your AC unit. Look for small ports with caps on a thin copper line—the Freon goes into those ports. You are best off hiring a licensed HVAC professional who can complete the job safely and correctly.

If you’re trying to buy a new AC unit, there are a few crucial factors to consider. Look at the cooling capacity, the available warranty, the energy efficiency, and the type of unit. A ductless unit will cost more up front but may be a more viable option if you don’t already have ductwork. Additionally, a unit with better energy efficiency will cost less to run overall, saving you money on your monthly energy bill.

Capacitors are the most frequent part of an HVAC system to experience failure. These components are crucial for starting the motors that power the fans and compressor, but over time, they may become worn or fail due to electrical surges or regular wear and tear. When capacitors malfunction, HVAC systems may experience decreased heating or cooling efficiency, or even total system failure. Replacement or maintenance of capacitors is a common requirement for the optimal functioning of HVAC systems.

The best way to reduce heat upstairs is to release it by opening a window. Hot air rises, and if you can create some airflow by opening a window upstairs and also one on a lower level, the hot air should be pushed out of the home. Remember that fans pointing out the window do a much better job of circulating air than fans pointing into the home.
