Customers say: True professional

"Beautifully. I asked that the wall be plastered smooth rather than textured as the previous wall had been and it was completed with a perform, smooth finish. The ceiling was a patch and needed to have the texture matched and he did that seamlessly."

"Wow, good job, well done! I have a big drywall work due to water damage; yet, I found Mr. Gabe. Yes, he along with his wife did the drywall work very quickly and perfectly, exceeded my expectations! Later, he was also very proficient in installing all baseboards and repairing door trims, the results were very good! Now my house has a new look; I will use him again definitely."

Small jobs welcome

"Excellent! Appointment was on time, and friendly and professional service. I had a jammed garbage disposal that was quickly determined to be from a soda can tab. Additionally, I had two wall sconces hung. I am very pleased with the work that was done."

"I had a window that was leaking and did not know who to go to for fixing this issue. I found Level Up Contracting through Angi's list. They came and surveyed the problem area. The problem lied behind the drywall and Al told me what work was needed to investigate the issue and repair it. He walked me through the process and quoted me a fair cost for the job. Throughout the repair work he provided updates and what materials he needed to completed the work. Al provided excellent customer service and was very pleasant to talk to. I am very satisfied with his work and craftmanship."

"We were very pleased with the drywall repair that J Drywall did for us. They were very professional and I appreciated how well they contained the mess and disposed of it. They did such a good job that no one can even tell that we used to have a fairly large hole in the ceiling and part-way down 1 wall. I would definitely recommend J Drywall."

"The Calroc representative showed up on time and did a completely professional job. He was very pleasant, put down drop cloths and sealed the work area in plastic sheeting. He cleaned the area when finished and hauled away the debris. He completed our ceiling repair and blended in the area so we cannot tell where the repair was. I highly recommend Calroc."

Wall Repair questions, answered by experts

Most railroad tie retaining walls have a life span of 20 to 30 years, though you may need to replace your wall sooner if it’s repeatedly exposed to heavy rain, runoff, and excess moisture. Railroad ties are typically treated with creosote, which makes them much more durable than untreated wood. Though they last longer, they don’t last forever. For the most longevity, make sure your retaining wall has a sturdy base and steel reinforcements. You should also install drainage to direct water away from the wall.

Failure to compact the soil during construction is the most common cause of leaning retaining walls. In addition, poor drainage can lead to excessive water pressure behind a retaining wall, pushing against it until it begins to move forward away from the soil it is holding back.

Costs depend on material type, labor rates, and additional features like decorative finishes or reinforcement.

If you don’t backfill a retaining wall—either at all or adequately enough—the wall won’t drain well, and water will be able to pass through it. Poor drainage will lead to a warped wall or a buildup of hydrostatic pressure, which can eventually collapse your retaining wall. If you have particularly sloped land, consult a structural engineer to ensure your hardscaping is adding value to your home.

A retaining wall can only function as a fence if it’s high enough on all sides to prevent someone from accidentally falling into the pool. However, most retaining walls retain dirt, which means their purpose is not related to safety. There would need to be nothing on the other side of the wall for it to be considered a fence, but in that case, it wouldn’t retain anything and would cease to be a retaining wall.
