"Had them come out for an estimate of reworking my irrigation, trimming and possibly landscaping (I already had a landscaper). Showed up on the day stated, on time and got after it! Got my irrigation repaired for less than other estimates, with practices that will save me money and hired them for follow-on landscaping that surprisingly came in under what I was paying for lesser service. I highly recommend Ed and his team. They rock!"

"Artistic Solutions replaced a back yard leaking 40 year old 3/4 inch irrigation valve and corroded cast iron pipes with the latest PVC replacement parts. The problem was fixed, and they did a good job. The sprinkler system works fine without leaks."

Lawn Irrigation questions, answered by experts

Having a luscious lawn won’t take a century to grow with hydroseeding—most hydroseed lawns sprout within 7 to 14 days. Once the new grass is about 4 inches tall, which is about six weeks after the installation, it’s ready to mow. After the initial mow, keep foot traffic at a minimum for another four weeks to solidify the rooting system.

Soaking grass seeds in water before seeding is called pre-germinating. It’s not necessary but can be very helpful in some cases. Some grasses like are very slow to germinate, and basic seeding on the ground is unlikely to be effective—that’s especially true of cool season grasses like Kentucky bluegrass, rye grasses, and Bermuda grass. Soaking these seeds in a bag or bin of water for one to four days beforehand can give the grass the start it needs to survive.

Unfortunately, no. Grass seeds need a lot of moisture until they become sprouts, so this is an especially sensitive time. While they'll dry out if they get dehydrated, over-watering creates other problems. The grass seeds don't recover because they can just wash away or even rot, making for low germination rates. The ones that do germinate after being pushed under the soil may start to sprout only to die from lack of sunlight.

Yes, some grass will germinate in two weeks or less but it will take several weeks more before it is established enough to walk (or nap) on. To grow grass quickly, follow the tried-and-true-steps carefully, starting with choosing a cool- or warm-season grass seed that flourishes in your home’s climate.

You can reseed a lawn that has dead grass, but it is best to remove the dead patches before you begin. Removing the dead turf and testing the soil will help you determine what is killing the grass so you can make the necessary amendments to prevent the problem from recurring. Once you have made the appropriate adjustments, you can rake, fertilize, and reseed. If your lawn has many large dead patches, it may be more effective to remove all the existing grass, amend the soil, and start over from scratch.
