"Quetzal Landscapes is honestly one of the best companies I’ve had the pleasure of working with. They built a fantastic looking and incredibly strong retaining wall in my backyard. I had a host of companies come out and bid and I’m so happy I ended up going with Quetzal. They were by far the best choice. Every person involved truly cared about the project and it shows in their end product. I will absolutely be calling Kris and Quetzal again the next project I want to do!"

"Ruben and company did an excellent job of clearing out my planter boxes, plants, rock and mulch in the backyard and replacing the area with a whole new lawn. He also took out the drip water system and repaired and replaced some sprinklers in the existing system and made sure it worked. Clean up was thorough. I would recommend him to anyone needing this kind of work."

"Thursday night at 2:30am I took the dog out only to find our patio flooding from a busted PVC irrigation pipe. My husband came out and was unable to turn off the water. This issue grew into a bigger problem due to additional circumstances, but around 6am I started calling various plumbers, including "24 hour emergency" companies. A few call centers answered, but no response was received for my "emergency" type request. I then switched to calling an irrigation company, and I connected with Sam, owner of Teknia Landscape. He was at our house within 1.5 hours, troubleshooting and starting the process of fixing the pipe. Unfortunately the water was still on, but when we finally got the water shut off (2pm that afternoon), I let him know and he added us as his last stop of the day - he arrived at 6:30pm (on a Friday), fixed the pipe and left us with instructions for calling the water district (to get water turned back on) and told my husband about a few things to do once the water is back on. SAM WAS AWESOME! With an emergency situation like ours, he made sure we fit into his schedule as a priority which is so key when you are stressing and worried. He was responsive, knowledgeable (we'll be calling him back for more work, no doubt), and we felt his billing to be very fair and honest. We also paid him cash, and we were short $1 bills so I had to use my "lucky $2 bill" from my wallet; I jokingly told him that, and how I was now passing the luck along, and after 30 seconds of noting on the invoice we had paid, he handed me back my $2 bill and told me to keep it. Kudos for that move too! SUPER IMPRESSED with Sam from Teknia Landscape!!!"

Lawn Irrigation questions, answered by experts

You may need to lay sod on the areas you dug up once you get the okay from the contractor. It will take about 30 to 45 days for the sod to take root. Consult a local sod installer to get an accurate estimate of the timeline of your specific yard-enhancement project.

Because it’s native to the central United States and Canada and is drought-tolerant, it typically is not difficult to grow. It requires very little maintenance and minimal watering beyond rainfall. Its hardy nature and unique look make it a favorite choice among people living in the western United States and other dry regions of the country.

Buffalo grass is not a dense grass, so weeds can grow between the buffalo grass plants. However, as long as you don’t overwater your lawn, weeds have a hard time growing. If you do notice weeds, you can use granular herbicides that are safe for buffalo grass in early and late summer.

Yes! Fescue grass is a perennial that naturally regrows every spring. That’s why we recommend planting this grass variety in the spring to jump into the ideal growing and regrowing schedule. Keep in mind that fescue grasses thrive in cooler and transitional areas, so some species do best in moderate climates below 90 and above 50 degrees Fahrenheit.

While it’s possible to grow grass seeds by throwing them down, this isn’t the best way to plant them. By amending and prepping the soil beforehand, you’re providing optimal contact between seed and soil for a better chance at germination. If you throw them down without preparing the soil beforehand, seeds are more likely to blow away, get eaten by hungry birds, or never grow.
