"Dante provided outstanding customer service and was knowledgeable, patient and very professional. We really did not want to purchase another iron window, just needed custom made brackets and welded to the iron window. Dante did a great job. Overall my wife and I are very pleased with our experience with L.A. Iron Works. Thank you HomeAdvisor for recommending this company. Gus & Judith"

"Mello Welding is terrific. I received a call back and a quick estimate. The work to cut out a rusty section of railing and weld a new section in place was professionally completed on time. I really appreciated how quickly they responded. Very satisfied."

"Luis is extremely talented and did a phenomenal job! I needed 3 iron gates repaired but he also added a beautiful decorative piece to my 10' glass, double-entry entry door! He was on time, friendly, knowledgable and his price was excellent! He fixed 3 of my gates: one fell off the hinge, another was rotting away and the last one he welded two sides together to operate as one and make it easier to open and close. Zeus Iron Works is a rare gem!"

"I had Tony rebuild my 2nd floor balcony back in June 2014. Now, I needed all my 2nd-floor bedrooms (1 master and 3 regular) carpets and their individual closets replaced with wooden floors. Additionally, my hallway carpets, and the two flights of stairs at either end of the hallway replaced with new carpets as well. I also needed an old built-in shelf in my master bedroom
removed, so that I could make space for a wall-mounted TV and to turn that section of the room to become a private movie area for me and my wife. I hired Tony again for the 2nd job.
We met with Tony a couple of times before the actual work started. We showed a photo of the type of wood we would like to match and explained to him what width and color of the wood we?d like to have. Tony informed us that the width was uncommon here in the US and that it may require special order that may have additional cost for it and a longer time for the wood panels to arrive, but that he would look into finding us the closest resemblance for us to see and feel before finalizing a decision, if he could not find the exact one. Tony also asked us if we would like real wood, or laminated engineered wood. He also explained to us what the differences were, as well as the pros and cons of the two types of wood. It was quite educational. ( Suggestion: If you?re interested in learning, ask Tony.)
As for the carpet selection, Tony had us meet with him at his supplier showroom. We explained to the carpet supplier that we required carpets that can handle our canine family member, but still feels soft to our feet and is easy to clean. We also wanted the carpet color to match our new wooden floors leading to our bedrooms. Luckily, Tony came prepared and had the sample
with him, which made our selection that much easier. Like the previous job, his best man, Francisco and the crew were fabulous when it came to detailed work. They started the job by removing (demoing) the built-in shelf in my master bedroom and asked if I wanted to keep the parts or have them take it away for me. I had them remove it all as I had no need for
the shelving anymore. Francisco?s crew, which I call the A-Team, laid down painters cloth around the demo area and were efficient in the demo process, removal of debris, and clean-up, after.
I had concern about not having enough space to move the furniture in each bedroom out of the way prior to the install date, but Tony assured me that there was no need, only that I would need to pack up the smaller items and that the flooring crew would help move all the furniture to one side of the room first and work on the empty side, and then move the furniture to the completed side, and finish up on the remaining half of the room.
On the install date, removal of the old carpets and the installation of the new wooden floors for the bedrooms, as well as the hallway and stairway carpets was the next step. As for the larger parts of this process, the flooring crew were quite efficient. While one crew member was ripping out the old carpets, rolling them up and carrying them to their van, another was prepping the sound barrier, and installing the wooden panels into place, one-by-one across the room. A third member of the crew started work on the next room. I was quite surprised how fast they were able to work.
I made the assumption that the flooring team were like that A-Team when it came to the detailed parts of the final product after install, it was not so. ( Suggestion: You'll want to keep an eye on specifics and details where you would like extra attention or do a detailed final sweep around all the work areas. i.e. edges running along the walls, wooden seams below each door
separating one area from another, or check for lumps or creaks at certain parts of the flooring.) I had voiced my concern to Tony even after the work was complete when I found areas that I was unsatisfied with and Tony had the flooring crew return again to make adjustments and redo specific areas where I addressed concern. ( Suggestion: Voice your concern to Tony regarding any part of the job, if you don?t mention it, Tony nor any of his crews would know what you?re thinking. It?s your home,
get it done the way you want it to be done, and because you are going to have to live with it. This goes without saying, with every part of the job, I think.) Tony?s rather cooperative when it comes to return visits, so contact him, as he is always only a phone call away.
After the carpets and wooden floors were completed, Tony had his paint crew remove all the old wallpaper in my master bedroom, sanded, patched holes, prepped for paint, and painted our bedroom walls to the color of our choosing (it
took about 4 test samples before my wife agreed on the right color). Carlos, the head painter for the crew was professional and was quite patient with us, as he had to make 2-3 separate trips to the local home depot to get our test samples until we were satisfied with the right choice in color, then they painted the entire room where needed. Carlos and his paint crew were quite careful and detailed in their paint work, almost like he was doing a magnificent painting. I was quite satisfied with Carlos and his crew?s final product.
Overall, I would still hire Tony (Nexxus Remodeling, Inc.) for future jobs as he will try to ensure that you are satisfied with the company's work even after the completion of the job. The entire job took about 1 1/2 months? time due special ordering of the wooden panels and that I had to postpone the continuation of the job for a week for a business trip. Thank you Tony, Francisco, Carlos, and your crews for another job well done."

"I found this company on Angie's List and contacted them. I spoke to Daniel, a field supervisor, and gave him an idea of what I needed. Daniel came out viewed my problem areas and we talked for at least two hours. I'm the kind of person who knows what I want, the style, the materials, and the design, before I ever talk to someone. Daniel gave me a price and a timeline and I said yes. Prior to Daniel I contacted two other companies. One company that I spoke with told me one of the things I wanted to do couldn't be done without ever seeing my house. The second company had an answering machine. The man did call me back but if you can't hire someone to answer your phone then I'm not interested in your company. Fredy is the foreman and this company has there OWN crew. No sub-contractors. Antonio, Alex and Francisco with four or five other workers are top notch. They are respectful, helpful, nice hard working guys and it was a pleasure to have them here. Along the way we found issues with my 66 year old house that needed to be corrected and brought up to code. Those problems were corrected and inspected with flying colors. Initially the bathroom gut and remodel were not part of the original bid, but I was so impressed with the work in my kitchen, that I added on the bathroom and new hardwood flooring in my living room and a bedroom."

Welding questions, answered by experts

This all depends on the tools you have on hand and whether you’re trying to cut a straight line or shapes.

The best tool to use for straight lines is either a circular saw or table saw. When cutting shapes, a jigsaw will be the easiest and most precise tool to use.

Some welding projects, such as repairing pipes or fences, require travel, whereas others, like furniture repair, do not necessarily require the welder to come to you. Travel and overhead factor into the overall cost of your welding project. Some of the most common welding projects include:

  • Metal furniture repair: $35–$100

  • Pipe repair: $200–$1,000

  • Small gates: $550–$750

  • Fencing: $1,200–$1,800

  • Fabricated sheet metal welding: $750–$2,500

Cutting rectangular ductwork requires careful measurements and the right technique. Use a measuring tape and pencil to mark the cutting lines accurately. Tin snips are excellent for straight cuts on smaller ducts. For more extensive or thicker rectangular ducts, a reciprocating saw with a metal-cutting blade is effective.

Ensure the duct is well-supported and secure while cutting to prevent wobbling and maintain precision. After cutting, use a metal file to smooth any sharp edges, ensuring safety during installation.

To maintain custom or fabricated metal structures and extend their lifespan and appearance, perform regular cleaning, apply rust prevention treatments, and use protective coatings.

You should not do your own welding unless you have the proper training and experience. Most home electrical systems can only handle MIG welding, which creates weaker bonds than TIG welding and won’t work on certain metals or metal thicknesses. Both welding forms usually require the use of shielding gas, which can be dangerous to store at home. Additionally, welding machines create temperatures of over 3,000 degrees, and the sparks can blind you if you don’t have the proper equipment. As such, it’s usually better to hire a professional welder for your welding projects.
