Customers say: Quick response

"Owner is very honest and reasonably priced. His crew does excellent work. They replaced and upgraded our old residential sewer line to the street and installed two regulation sewer cleanouts. It was a major job for our house and they did all the work perfectly, including the City permit signoff and within two days. They fully restored all landscaping and did excellent cleanup. We are very happy with Moor Plumbing and their excellent customer relations and the quality of their work."

"Jess was did a fantastic job installing a sewer clean out for us. We had a major backup, sewage had backed up into the tubs and he came out on a Sunday to address our emergency. "The actual job was to essentially replace the entire sewer system from fixtures to the town hookup, along with replacing toilets. Daniel and Jaime were awesome!. We contacted them based on very positive feedback from a neighbor who had them perform some work for her. They did a very thorough up front inspection (with pictures) and explained the current state of the system and provided a variety of options to address the issues they found. All of their work was top notch (and included before and after pictures). They always kept us informed of what was happening when - and were always on time. They thoroughly explained what they were doing and why. The work was performed in a minimally disruptive way - we almost always had some level of service available (a working bathroom, etc). They started the job by laying down some impressive floor coverings to protect the house, and at the end of each day they cleaned things up. When the project was completed they restored the front yard very nicely (they left very few signs that anything was done - which was impressive considering the amount of work done). They were very professional, friendly and easy to work with. I am a completely satisfied customer and would recommend Swags without reservation."

"Wilmer is very professional and friendly. He was the first one responding to our query. He sent us a message and also called us and left voice message. Once he arrived, he looked at the problem and told me his solution. He answered all my questions. He and his teammate cleared the main sewer pipe. After that, we tested with no issues. I am very satisfied his service. Will work him again in the future. Thanks very much! Yi"

Sewer Cleaning questions, answered by experts

Using less toilet paper is the easiest way to prevent future clogs. Also, avoid flushing sanitary products, thick paper towels, or hair down the toilet. If you’ve been using a brick in the tank to reduce the water used to flush the toilet, take it out immediately. Bricks will eventually fall apart and clog your toilet drain. Keeping your toilet lid closed also helps avoid future clogs.

A clogged sewer line is not typically covered by homeowner’s insurance, though some sewer line issues are covered. For instance, damage related to a fallen tree is usually covered. Though sewer line replacement is not covered in a standard insurance policy, some companies offer add-ons for this purpose. Read the fine print before spending your own money.

Your sewer line can get grimy quickly. To prevent sludge buildup in your sewer line, pour a mixture of 1/3 cup of vinegar and 1/3 cup of baking soda down each drain in your home once a month. After about 30 minutes, flush the drain with hot water.

Some plumbers recommend 3/4 cup of bleach instead to clean any germs and bacteria that may build up in your sewer line. But this won’t break down any active clogs, and it cannot be combined with vinegar, as the mixture will create a toxic, hazardous gas.

While some chemical drain cleaners with hydrochloric acid can dissolve hair, this method is not recommended as it can also destroy your plumbing pipes. A common DIY alternative is using baking soda and vinegar, which can help break down the clog but will not actually dissolve the hair. The best and safest method for clearing a hair clog is to remove it manually. You can use a drain snake, a straightened wire hanger with pliers to fish out the clog, or have a plumber use a professional auger for more severe blockages.

A sewer line should be cleaned at least once every 18 to 22 months. The process takes about 30 minutes or up to 5 hours, depending on the size of the line, how easy it is to access, and how long it’s been since the previous cleaning. If your sewer line hasn’t been cleaned in a couple of years or you don’t even know the last time it’s been cleaned, it’s time to call a pro.
