"02/05/2020 - My wife and I have been in our home for over 20-years and the backyard was in dire need of a “refurbishment”. We chose to center the emphasis on our pool area to turn it into a backyard oasis for our kids and grandkids when they come over to “hang-out” with Mom/Ninnie and Dad/Papa. We decided on putting in an outdoor seating area complete with a BBQ and housing for our refrigerator and stereo. After everything was built (by a separate contractor) we chose to tile the whole project with porcelain slats in earth tone colors – not an easy task. We had met Bano when he was working on another project in our neighborhood and really admired his work; therefore, we contracted with him to install the tile and electrical on our project. Bano is a perfectionist. Because of his craftsmanship he can manipulate his work to disguise any irregularities with his eagle-eye and unparalleled expertise. He can make a project perfect! Bano has an enormous capacity for work. He shows up promptly and stays until he comes to a specified stopping point. He is kind, trustworthy and fair. Our project came out far beyond expectation. The compliments we get are countless – he set the stage for our sanctuary. I can confidently say that we will proudly be sharing our haven (in all its glory) for years to come with family and friends. We will definitely utilize Bano's services for any future projects."

Backsplash Installation questions, answered by experts

Yes, it’s possible to cut tile without a wet saw; instead, you can use an angle grinder, a glass cutter, a snap cutter, tile nippers, or a rotary tool with a tile-cutting blade. A manual tile cutter or snap cutter works well for the larger tiles that wet saws are typically used for, while smaller projects might just require nippers or a glass cutting wheel. If you’re working with large quantities of tile, however, power tools are best.

Yes, you can use paint if you want to refresh your tile countertops. However, you must be mindful of the type of paint you use. Look for options explicitly created for tile that are also waterproof and durable. Over time, the paint will chip, so this is not considered a long-term solution for busy kitchens.

You can often find many types of peel and stick tile at big-box home improvement stores. Other places to shop for this type of material include home decor websites, other types of big-box stores, and even directly from the manufacturer. It’s a good idea to order a tile sample first to see how you like the look and feel before installing it.

Yes, construction materials like tile, lumber, drywall, and hardware can be disposed of in a dumpster, just not in your regular garbage. As you’re planning your project, just make sure to rent the correct size of dumpster based on the scope of your needs and be aware of weight limits. Tile weighs a lot (along with other construction materials), and your costs could increase if you exceed the weight limit in your contract with the dumpster provider.

It’s best to start with tiling the shower floor before moving on to the walls for the most visually-pleasing results. When taking on any tiling project, you’ll want the wall tiles to “sit” neatly on the floor tiles rather than overlapping them. Finishing your floor tiles first will allow you to place your wall tiles without any gaps, holes, or awkward intersections.
