"This is the second project that Manny and his guys have done for me, and I couldn’t be more pleased! They were able to schedule me quickly, worked efficiently, and gave me a really competitive price! They’ve done my driveway, extension pathway around my house and a back patio and all of it has been absolutely spectacular! I will be using them for all of my future landscaping needs and anything else that they may offer!"

"Cristo and team are excellent. I have worked with them for over 2 years on putting in my entire new home landscaping from scratch. They installed large sections of paver drive, irrigation systems, lighting, gravel, rip-rap rock, tree's, plants and done repair work on my pool area travertine tile. They are always professional, deliver as promised and clean up thoroughly. I will continue to use their services for maintenance and new projects."

"When I paid the deposit, I knew, because it was a small job it wasn't going to be scheduled by the provider right away.  That was fine with me as long as the work could be done on a Friday.  When about a month went by I called to see when the work could be done.  I was told it was scheduled for a Wednesday.  I explained I work and Friday is my day off.  The person I spoke to said she would get back to me.  When I didn't hear back after a few days I called again and was told it would be done on a Friday and that they started at 6 am.
The day before the work was to be done my doorbell rang at 7 am and the person said he was here to leave some posts for Jesse.  The following day the workers arrived at about 7 am.  I'm disappointed by how it's designed.  On one side the horizontal beam fits into the vertical beam forming a 90 degree angle.  But on the other side the horizontal beam goes about 12" past the vertical beam and looks odd.  This wasn't the case in the original overhang but they extended it further on one side.  I didn't know this was going to be the case and when I asked the person in charge during the work basically I was told there was nothing that could be done about it.
I will say I was very pleased with the person who power washed the driveway to remove the peeling paint.  He worked out that for about 4 hours and was very thorough.
I was disappointed both in the number of calls I had to make to have the work scheduled and the lack of care in the design and communicating with me.  I feel that because it wasn't a large job I was treated like it just didn't matter to the company.
I should have shopped around more.

Asphalt Driveways questions, answered by experts

If you’re looking for a similar, eco-friendly driveway material, you might consider one of these options:

  • Permeable pavement: This material is sometimes called “pervious” or “porous” pavement; it allows stormwater to drain into the subbase, eliminating storm drain costs.

  • Gravel: Consider paving your driveway with locally sourced gravel. By sourcing from a nearby source, your money won’t fund international shipping and will be invested back into your local community.

  • Natural stone pavers: Because natural stone pavers are made from organically-produced stone, there’s no new manufacturing required, limiting the environmental impact. In addition, water easily flows and drains through the gaps in the pavers.

If your driveway is cracked, you can repave it with a process called asphalt overlay. Overlay is more cost-effective than a full replacement but is better suited for minor cracks and issues. If you have major cracks or other problems like water pooling, asphalt overlay isn’t your best bet. Plus, paving over a cracked driveway only extends the lifetime by about 10 years, whereas replacing it would start the clock over completely to give you up to 30 years.

Wet cutting is usually the preferred method. It controls dust, which helps protect your lungs and makes for a cleaner working environment. Plus, the water cools the blade, preventing overheating and prolonging its life while providing smoother, more precise cuts. The downside is the mess—water and asphalt sludge can be messy to clean. Dry cutting, though convenient if water isn’t available, creates a lot of dust, which can be harmful. This also increases the risk of blade damage due to overheating. So, if you have the option, wet cutting is the better method for most asphalt jobs.

While blacktop is a type of asphalt, the terms should not be used interchangeably, as not all asphalt qualifies as blacktop. The primary differences are in their composition, production process, and ideal applications. Blacktop contains more stone than other types of asphalt and is heated to a higher temperature during production—300°F or more—while hot-mix asphalt is heated to between 275°F and 300°F. The ratio of bitumen (a tar-like crude oil) is a key differentiator, though sources vary: some state blacktop has less bitumen, making it less durable, while others claim it has a higher ratio. Due to these differences, asphalt is generally more durable and better for high-traffic areas like highways and streets, while blacktop is more suitable for playgrounds and residential driveways. For a driveway project, it is best to consult a professional to determine the most appropriate material.

An ideal driveway gradient is between 2% and 5%. Anything lower than 1% or higher than 15% can cause problems for your car or property. A driveway with less than a 1% slope increases your likelihood of flooding and water damage, while a driveway with a 15% grade or higher can be too steep for safe traveling.
