"This young man knows his stuff and takes his time to do an exceptional job. He installed 2 Tesla Wall Chargers requiring breakers in the outside power panel with metal conduits. Then he mounted the Teska chargers on drywall. I thought I could do the install myself after viewing YouTube videos. I am glad the YouTube idea didn’t last long. If you think the install is simple - it will it be. Get a professional like this young man and get it done by a true professional."

"Everything went well and the contractor installing my solar electric hot water system appreciated how the electrical was done for him to connect to. Follow up was excellent (I found a missed ceiling penetration which needed fire blocking)."

"Mr. Electric was a dream to work with. I called them out to fix another contractors work. The day of the appointment, Mr. Electric sent me a text with a bio and picture of the installer (Kenny Lawrence). Kenny arrived on time and gave me a quote before any work was done. Kenny was very knowledgeable and personable. I felt very comfortable and I was confident that the work would be done correctly. Once the work was completed, Kenny gave me the bill and it was identical to the quote provided before the work was done. There weren’t any additional/hidden charges. I would highly recommend Mr. Electric for any electric needs, especially fixing another contractor’s poor work. :) Thanks Kenny!"

"Alex explained current electrical codes. My neighborhood is on the National Register of Historic Places so the majority of homes are over sixty years old, including mine. He told me all the things necessary to bring the house to code, so it is an ongoing project. Will hire for more work in the Fall."

Generator Install questions, answered by experts

To power a central air system during a power outage, the whole-house generator will need to be at least 5,000 watts, and this number will significantly increase for larger units. Check the specific wattage requirements of your AC unit to choose the right generator size. Consider consulting a generator installer to ensure your whole-house generator meets your electrical load needs.

Costs range from $500 to $2,500, depending on generator type and installation complexity.

Sizing a generator is a careful process that requires calculating the electrical load of your entire house. You have to take into account every device you want to use and their wattage requirements, plus the wattage needed to start them, and look for a generator that can safely run all that at around 80% capacity.

In more practical terms, a small home can run on a 10,000-watt generator (and if you only want to power a few key appliances, much less than that). A mid-sized home may need something between 15,000 and 22,000 watts. Larger homes require 25,000 watts or more.

No, you should never plug a generator directly into a wall outlet in your house. This practice is extremely dangerous, often illegal, and can cause "back-feeding," where power from the generator flows back into utility lines, creating a life-threatening hazard for utility workers. It can also damage your home's electrical system, including appliances like pumps and HVAC fans. If the main power is restored while the generator is connected, it can destroy the generator and cause an electrical fire. To safely connect a generator, you must use a professionally installed transfer switch or an interlocking kit, which prevents back-feeding by disconnecting your home from the utility grid before the generator provides power.

If you’re wondering if you can use your electric vehicle as a backup battery, it depends on whether your EV is compatible with bidirectional charging. This technology allows energy to flow both ways, enabling vehicle-to-home (V2H) backup power, vehicle-to-load (V2L) for appliances and camping, and vehicle-to-grid (V2G) to support the power grid. Compatible EVs convert stored DC energy into usable AC power, helping reduce energy costs and enhance grid stability while providing emergency backup power.
