"Solid group of people. Arizona Backup Power came to my rescue where dishonest electrical contractor screwed up the solar as well as the generator install on my home. It was wired poorly and incorrectly, and did not work. The guy who installed it was no show no call. I called few other contractors in Scottsdale and they also had zero interest in helping me. Finally, when I called Arizona Backup Power, they came over to my home, and they had it all corrected for me. I am really thankful to them!"

"David quoted us a great price for the install. Dustin came out a few days later and did a great looking install and even mounted my charging unit on the wall for us. I recommend Andrew's Electrical."

Generator Install questions, answered by experts

In Mesa, generator installation projects often feature whole-house backup power systems equipped with smart monitoring and automatic transfer switches for seamless operation during power outages. Homeowners favor natural gas hookups due to reliable infrastructure, and weather-resistant, desert-friendly enclosures that withstand intense sun and dust. Quiet, low-profile models help meet local noise ordinances, and solar-compatible generators are gaining popularity. Strategic placement with decorative rock or drought-tolerant landscaping is also a common trend.

Helpful?

To enhance safety for families in Mesa, install a secure barrier or fence with at least three feet of clearance around the generator, and opt for lockable controls positioned above children’s reach. Ensure carbon monoxide detectors are installed inside the home and maintain proper airflow around the unit. Use heat shields to prevent burns, secure all fuel lines, and consider quieter models to minimize disturbance for both kids and pets.

Helpful?

In Mesa, signs that generator installation may require professional review include insufficient clearance from property lines, cracked or shifting concrete pads, or visible rust on connections. Lack of proper permits, poor ventilation—especially important in AZ’s extreme heat—and mismatched gas line sizes are red flags. If the generator isn’t properly grounded, fails to meet current electrical codes, or doesn’t comply with HOA guidelines, a thorough inspection is recommended.

Helpful?

Mesa homeowners often underestimate backup power needs for air conditioning, place generators too close to pool equipment, or neglect to coordinate with utility companies. Skipping required electrical and mechanical permits or ignoring HOA rules are frequent issues. Other mistakes include undersized gas lines, poor drainage planning for monsoon season, and improper exhaust placement. Attempting DIY electrical work can also create safety hazards and reduce system reliability.

Helpful?

In Mesa, most generator installation projects take about four to six weeks from start to finish. This timeline includes planning, obtaining permits, utility coordination, and scheduling inspections. Installation itself typically takes several days, but summer heat or monsoon weather can cause delays. HOA approval processes may also extend the schedule. Working with experienced local professionals helps ensure a smooth, timely installation and reliable emergency generator operation.
