"Victor was on time, professional in greeting, got right to the job evaluating the non functioning refrigerator. He was direct in explaining his findings. Upon my questioning what to do to make it work he told me to get another one due the age and the possibility of a used replacement part also not lasting very long. He did not try to sell a new refrigerator to me much to his credit as a repairman. Therefore, I am of the opinion he should be hired by anyone needing an appliance repaired and can trust him to be totally honest. He is very reasonable in his service call charges also."

The average lifespan of a microwave is typically between 7 and 10 years, though this can vary. Some models may last as few as 5 years, while high-end or boutique brands can function for up to 15 years.

Several factors influence a microwave's longevity, including its make, model, and quality, as well as how frequently it is used and how well it is maintained.

To extend the life of your microwave, follow these maintenance and usage tips:

  • Clean regularly: Immediately wipe up spills and food debris. For stuck-on food, you can heat a bowl of water with a bit of lemon juice for a minute to create steam, which makes cleaning easier.

  • Maintain filters: For over-the-range microwaves, regularly clean the grease filter underneath to ensure it runs efficiently. Clean or replace other filters as needed.

  • Handle with care: Avoid slamming the door, as this can damage the door switches over time.

  • Use it safely: Never run the microwave when it's empty, and do not put metal objects or dishes with metallic trim inside, as this can damage the appliance and create a fire hazard.

  • Inspect the power cord: Periodically check the cord for any signs of damage.

You’ll need to unhook your old appliance but once you do, you can recycle it, donate it, sell it, reuse it, trade it in, or give it as a gift (provided it still works or is easy to fix). Most of the time when people are switching their appliances it’s either because the old one broke or they are upgrading. If the item is broken, the best option is to recycle it. This may carry a cost based on the appliance or its weight. If the appliance still works, you may choose to sell it or gift it. What you do with your old appliance ultimately comes to whether it’s still functioning.

The best deodorizer for a refrigerator is baking soda because it absorbs smells and neutralizes the air. You can also use citrus fruits, oatmeal, vanilla extract, activated carbon, and distilled white vinegar as a deodorizer in your refrigerator. Place one of these deodorizers in a bowl or cup in the back of your fridge to let it absorb odors.

Cabinetry is typically the most expensive component of a kitchen remodel, often accounting for 30% to 40% of the total budget. The cost for new or modified cabinets can range from $2,000 to $28,000, depending on the kitchen's size, materials, and whether they are custom-designed. To save money, you can refinish or reface existing cabinets if they are in good condition. The next largest expenses are typically new appliances, which can cost $500 or more per item, followed by countertops and flooring.

You’ll notice your heating element is bad if your oven isn’t heating. Another common sign is if food is cooked unevenly. The element itself could look damaged, like if there were cracks or blisters on the element’s surface. If there is no damage, check the continuity by using a multimeter.
