"Michael showed up right on time, removed the old light fixture, installed the new one. He cleaned up the small mess that was made with the project and took the old fixture out with him when he left to dispose of. The pricing was fair and I have absolutely no complaints with the technician that came to do the project or Supreme Electric & will use them again on future projects."

Electrical questions, answered by experts

Doorbell wires typically won't spark because they carry low voltage. However, if there's a short circuit or damaged wiring, sparking could occur. Always turn off the power at the breaker box before working with doorbell wires to prevent any risk. If you notice any sparking, it's a sign of a problem that a professional electrician should address.

Technically, an outdoor outlet can be on the same circuit as an indoor outlet, but it's generally not recommended. Outdoor outlets should ideally be on a dedicated circuit that doesn't share power with other indoor or outdoor outlets. This helps ensure that the outdoor outlets are able to handle the additional electrical load without overloading the circuit. Additionally, outdoor outlets are often exposed to the elements, which can increase the risk of electrical shock and other hazards. If you must have an outdoor outlet on the same circuit as an indoor outlet, be sure that the circuit has the capacity to handle the additional load.

While circuit breakers are designed to be reset after tripping, there isn't a strict countdown to when they will fail. The primary danger lies in a breaker tripping multiple times in a short period without allowing the components to cool down. Theoretically, a standard breaker might handle around 50 trips caused by simple overloading. However, this number can be much lower in practice. For instance, a high-current fault could damage a breaker to the point that it needs replacement after only two resets. Repeatedly resetting a breaker that trips frequently exacerbates the underlying problem by causing the electrical components, wires, and the breaker itself to overheat. This can lead to permanent damage, cause the breaker to trip unnecessarily in the future, and increase the risk of an electrical fire. If a breaker trips every few minutes, you should leave it in the 'off' position and call a qualified electrician for an inspection.

An air conditioner’s watt usage depends on multiple factors, including the type of AC unit, its size, and how often you use it. With that said, most central air conditioners consume between 3,000 and 3,500 watts. Meanwhile, window AC units use 900 to 1,400 watts, and portable air conditioners consume 2,900 to 4,100 watts.

An estimate for electrical work should include an estimated number and an estimated price to complete the work. An electrical estimate should also include a description of the services to be provided as well as the materials to be used, such as wiring, switches, panels, or other items, and the cost for those materials. If any tax is charged, that should appear on the estimate, too. Some estimates may include additional options that can be added to the base price of the quoted job if the customer chooses to go ahead with the add-ons.
