"My Mother-in law called James and he told her he knew what the issue was. She was told that if they did not do any work, there would be no charge, she is 67 and lives alone. The odor in the house was bad enough to burn your eyes and make your throat sore after 30 minutes. Valley Plumbing showed up on time, came into the house and said they could not smell anything, one of them said he was sick and could not smell anything anyway. They took a flashlight and looked down the drain in the bathtub and sink, said they were full of water and there could not be any gas escaping from them. Both of them then went around the outside of the house and said they could not find anything. Before they left, the one that said he was sick brought paperwork to her and said there was a service call fee. She explained that she had been told that if they did not do any work, there would be no charge. He asked her to sign stating that they had been there and had not done any damage. A few days later, she gets a bill in the mail stating that she had refused to pay the bill and they had her signature in the space marked total due. It also stated that she had 30 days to pay or they would turn it over to collections. That the Guys have to be paid for the travel time. I tried to call the owner of Valley Plumbing and left a message for him to call me, he never did. After no response from the owner, I posted a negative review on Valley Plumbing's Facebook Page. I was there for this entire time with her and it was terrible to see. After they left, I called another company, they showed up and fixed the issue in five minutes. It was a vent for the bathtub and sink. Today, My mother-in-law received a hateful and threatening phone call from Barbra Arnold with MacCorkle and Lavender Law Firm telling her that if I did not remove the post they were going to sue. I called Barbra Arnold back and she had the same attitude with me. I hung up on her. WOULD NOT recommend Valley Plumbing for any kind of service. The misled my elderly Mother-in-law and threaten you with collections and lawsuits when your not satisfied with their work, or lack thereof in her case."

Gas Fireplace Service questions, answered by experts

Ideally, your chimney cap should be at least 8 inches above the top of the flue, though it's better if it's even higher. You want it to sit that high because it won't affect the chimney's draft, which pulls the smoke up and out of your chimney and away from your home.

If you haven’t had your chimney cleaned in some time, soot and grime can build up, making it difficult for the lever to release to close the flue. When this happens, locate the lever and clean it thoroughly. If this doesn’t help, consult with a fireplace repair pro to examine it for you.

Wood is classified as either hardwood or softwood. While both are good options for firewood, hardwoods like oak, hickory, beech, cherry, elm, and maple tend to be the best quality. These woods burn longer and hotter than softwoods and often produce less smoke. As an added bonus, woods like oak, hickory, and cherry emit a sought-after scent that is sure to make your home extra cozy.

In homes that have a gas furnace, it's typically the heating system that uses the most gas. That explains why your gas bill is almost always higher in the winter and other colder months than it is in the summer. Other appliances that may use gas include your water heater, clothes dryer, and stove.

Yes, if your gas fireplace has a flue, you typically need to open it when using the fireplace. Although gas fireplaces don’t produce the type of smoke and soot that wood-burning ones do, they still release combustion gasses like carbon monoxide. Opening the flue ensures these gasses safely exit your home through the chimney. Not all gas fireplaces need a chimney, however. Always check the manufacturer’s instructions for your specific gas fireplace model, as some newer models may have different ventilation requirements.
