"Dave was very professional and prompt. He answered all of questions without hesitation which told us that he has been in the business for quite awhile. He takes his time and and thoroughly cleans up after his job is complete. I would definitely recommend him for pressure washing decks. He also does deck staining."

"Due to surgery, Jon Chapman's right arm was immobilized, but he was able to subcontract in a timely manner and oversee the work of a great painting crew. So we have been pleased with the results."

"Len and his crew did an excellent job - the results are above and beyond my expectations. Prior to contracting for the work, Len came to give a free estimate, and informed us that one of the colors we had chosen would require an extra day and approximately double the price, because multiple coats would be required. We re-thought and changed our color choice; and are very happy we did - not only did the crew get everything done in a single day, but the price was very reasonable. Len was very prompt in returning calls, showed up on time for both the estimate and the work, and got our work scheduled earlier than planned because of another customer's cancellation. I'll definitely use Investment Painting again."

Deck Repair questions, answered by experts

The best material for your deck depends on several factors, including your budget, location, aesthetic preferences, and the level of maintenance you’re willing to do. Wood decking, like redwood, ipe, cedar, and pine, lasts the longest, but it’s more expensive and requires more upkeep than composite and synthetic decking.

Many people say the best composite decking is Trex, TimberTech, or Fiberon. These brands have formulated composite deck boards to withstand the elements and hold up over time. Each offers a range of product lines varying in durability, price, and appearance. Compare their different composite decking offers for cost, looks, and features before deciding on a product.

The best base materials for a ground-level or floating deck are typically gravel and crushed stone (also known as landscaping rocks). These options are inexpensive, provide excellent drainage, prevent weeds, and help minimize moisture buildup, which reduces shifting and rotting. For added stability and to evenly distribute the weight, you can use concrete deck blocks or pavers. While more expensive, concrete blocks and pavers offer a sturdier base than gravel or crushed stone alone.

Both a well-constructed deck and a patio can add value to your home. Patios are generally cheaper to build but don’t offer the same aesthetics as a quality deck. Therefore, decks can be more appealing to buyers than patios, increasing a home's resale value.

The best way to clean your decking is to clear debris from the gaps between the boards, sweep the surface, rinse it, apply cleaner, rinse again, and let it dry fully. A homemade deck cleaner made of two gallons of warm water and 1/2 cup vinegar is a simple cleaning solution for both wood and composite decking. You can sprinkle baking soda on any spots with mold or mildew, then scrub the area and rinse clean.
