"The owner Ted lives down the street from me, and after seeing the work he has done to his own house, I stopped and asked for a quote on a concrete patio extension. His quote came in much cheaper than the one we received last year for the same project, and they were able to get it done within days (before my kid's birthday party). On top of this, Ted and his crew went above and beyond by replacing part of the existing sidewalk because he was not happy with how it looked trying to match up to my old shabby slanted walkway. We were extremely pleased with their work and even received several compliments during our party. Boulders Concrete will certainly be my first call on future projects, and I can highly recommend them to anyone in the area."

"We were satisfied with the outcome of our retaining wall project. It took a little longer than we initially anticipated, but in the end, the final quality of the work was worth it. They installed two block walls, replaced and updated our downspout drainage system, and fixed the fence gate that sits behind one of the walls. They were friendly throughout."

"They were on time, they were friendly and explained what they were doing and the job was difficult and challenging and they returned to get it done. It was a 2 day project that turned into 3 and they even came to work on it on a Saturday."

Masonry questions, answered by experts

Yes, it is essential to prime or seal a brick fireplace before painting. Brick is a porous and highly absorbent material, so without a primer, paint can seep into the surface, resulting in uneven coverage and allowing the natural brick color to show through. To avoid this, apply one or two coats of a masonry primer. The primer will seal the brick and provide a smooth, uniform layer for the paint to adhere to. Ensure the primer is completely dry before applying the topcoat of paint.

Handbuilt masonry fireplaces are likely what comes to mind when we think about curling up by the fire at the end of the day. But bricks in the firebox and chimney tend to be heavy, which is not ideal for homes with weak or damaged foundations.

Prefabricated fireboxes come with a full flue and chimney system, significantly reducing the price and installation time. However, if you need to replace the panels down the line, you are locked into the same model or something very similar.

You can use a regular drill to make pilot holes for gutter brackets in the wooden fascia board around the top of your house, but it’s not the best tool for brick. Instead, you’ll need a heavy-duty power tool like a hammer drill with a carbide tip bit.

Some older brick material is extremely hard, making it tough to create a hole. Rather than using a typical wood drill bit, always use a masonry drill bit when drilling into brick. For extremely hard brick, using a power drill with a hammer function may give you better results. The drill bit will heat up as it goes into the extremely hard brick, so you may need to stop after a few minutes and allow the bit to cool before starting to drill again.

When it comes to how to paint a brick chimney, consider that standard paint can seal in moisture and cause serious chimney problems. Instead, use a vapor-permeable sealant. You’ll first scrub and sand the chimney; then, you can patch any gaps with caulk and apply the sealant. We recommend hiring a pro for this job since it entails working on the roof, which comes with a lot of necessary safety precautions.
