"The guys at Top Bros are Top Notch! Cesar was very helpful every step of the way. He was honest and professional. I trusted him from the very start of our project. Adan did the tile work in our walk in shower, it all came together nicely and turned out way better than I could ever imagine! I will hire them over and over again!"

Customers say: Quality work

"Tony did an amazing job on my tile install for the bathroom I am renovating. I am an Interior Designer and have uses different tile masons. Tony is efficient, clean on the job, and is a problem solver which is great when you run into snafo's like a bowed wall. With some minor adjustments to the mortar he was able to make the wall look level event though it was not. I would definitely hire Tony again."

Small jobs welcome

"No he did not do it in a timely manner. Said it would take 2-3 days and was there the whole week. My husband has to take off work 3 days with no pay and the job wasn't complete until Saturday. The job wasn't even fully completed but yet was paid for it. He didn't even measure the closet correctly. Instead he left it how it was with gaps. It doesn't matter if it is a closet you got paid to do it. The boards around the baseboards how did he leave it hanging out. Didn't even match the other boards correctly. If anything he should return some of what we paid him to do. Plus he put a metal strip on the floor to the basement steps with screws and not nails and weren't screwed down all the way and cut my toe walking up the stairs. Never again hire him. Bad"

Backsplash Installation questions, answered by experts

No, you don’t technically need a cement backer board for a wall tiling project, but not using it risks disastrous moisture damage. Cement is naturally water-resistant, whereas drywall soaks it in, which can lead to warping or mold growth. Always use a backer board treated with a waterproof membrane for bathrooms and other chronically damp areas to ensure complete tile shower waterproofing.

Ideally, you should remove tile before installing hardwood floors, but there are good reasons not to. Removing stubborn tile can be a labor-intensive job that adds days to the project. The subfloor beneath the tiles could also be damaged during the process, meaning you’d have to repair the subfloor before installing the new hardwood floor.

You can lay tile directly on a plywood countertop, but if it’s a high-traffic surface in a kitchen, it’s better to add a moisture-resistant base. Plywood is susceptible to moisture, so if dampness seeps through from the surface around the sink or where you prep food, it can cause the plywood to warp, leading to grout damage, cracked tiles, or mold growth under the surface.

Your floors should be completely level for tile, otherwise you risk damaging the tiles in the future. When there are even small gaps or hills in the subfloor beneath the tile, this puts more pressure on the tile when you walk around on the floor. With repeated traffic, the tiles are at risk of cracking, and you’ll have to deal with tile repairs sooner than if the floor was completely level.

Like any painted surface, tile paint can peel and chip over time. However, tile paint can become especially susceptible to peeling during periods of high humidity. Other sources of excess moisture will also cause tile paint to peel faster than normal. And if the tiles are in a high-traffic area, like the entryway floor, tile paint will chip and peel faster.
