Customers say: True professional

"Tony is a great guy and very meticulous. He did a full walk in shower and pan in ceramic tile including floor. We also had him do our kitchen backsplash. Been tiling 30 years, and knows what he’s doing. I would highly recommend."

"Flooring installed well. Some minor quarter round cuts could have been done better. The threshold between rooms could also have been securely attached the first time, but overall happy with the install, price, and time it took! Thank you!"

"Could this have been any better.   NO, absolutely NO. Nick did his walk thru (or walk over on the roof) and also checked out  other things I wanted done.  I found that High Quality Contractors is more than their name, it's what they are.  I've had roof problems for years and attempts at getting them fixed just never jelled.  (I sure could have used Angie's list back then)  Phone calls went unanswered and problems escalated to where the interior of our home was damaged from ice dams as well as a lousy roofing job.  I received an education from Nick and his crew.  I never knew so many things were involved in the care of a roof.  Top it off, they installed new and bigger gutters around a trouble area of my house and corrected the inept work that had been done originally.  He found things that needed correcting that I didn't even know were wrong.  Before Nick did this work, I always dreaded snow or rain for fear it would leak into the house.  Inow have a feeling of security and trust in what they did.   To top off my enthusiastic reaction to the work completed, ;I'm looking forward to three other projects Nick has lined up that will bring me into winter (and beyond) snug and confident the weather is going to remain outside for the first time in years.  Without going into tiny details, Nick did a few things beyond the call in addition to the work contracted.  Only a friend would have done this, and I feel I have made a new group of friends. BTW, Nick's Dad and his Dad's twin brother were on the job, one more plus as they worked so well as a team.  Each person knew their job and went about doing it professionally and with care.  A well operating team.  Some of the work corrected errors in the initial construction of the house.  It was really pains taking detail work to design a fix that would work.  From the big stuff to the nip picking stuff, this crew is the best anyone could hope for.  Nick has lined up several people to take care of damage to the interior from past ice storms and leaks.  He plans to follow up and be certain the work is done to both his and my satisfaction.d.  High Quality Contractors is a safe call for work around your home regardless of it being inside or out.  And, his crew is not a bunch of pickups.  They are a 12 month unit, ready to tackle any home owner's needs.

"Gordon Rudd himself called to set up the appointment, which pleasantly surprised us. His worker came to the house at time and date arranged and did a very good job--we could tell a difference immediately. We want to have him come back in the spring to work on the outside of the windows and doors (coupon was for interior only)."

Backsplash Installation questions, answered by experts

No, you don’t technically need a cement backer board for a wall tiling project, but not using it risks disastrous moisture damage. Cement is naturally water-resistant, whereas drywall soaks it in, which can lead to warping or mold growth. Always use a backer board treated with a waterproof membrane for bathrooms and other chronically damp areas to ensure complete tile shower waterproofing.

You should always use caulk instead of grout where the tile meets the wall. This will help your tile installation look great and last a long time. When you accidentally use grout for the corner seams, you end up making the tiles too rigid. So as the wall shifts over time, your tiles have no wiggle room. This can lead to tile damage, which will eventually require you to do at least a partial reinstallation.

No, when done correctly, removing the tile shouldn’t damage the subfloor. However, if there was pre-existing damage to the subfloor from standard use or lack of maintenance, the subfloor may need repairs. For example, if the contractors notice mold growth on the subfloor or an uneven surface, you may need more extensive services before installing new tile.

If you DIY tile removal, remove the tiles one step at a time, individually removing the tile, grout, and mortar to prevent unnecessarily damaging the subfloor. Depending on the age of your home, consider having a professional inspect the subfloor to ensure it’s in good enough condition to lay new tile.

It’s best to start with tiling the shower floor before moving on to the walls for the most visually-pleasing results. When taking on any tiling project, you’ll want the wall tiles to “sit” neatly on the floor tiles rather than overlapping them. Finishing your floor tiles first will allow you to place your wall tiles without any gaps, holes, or awkward intersections.

When working on your bathroom floor tiling, you should always tile the floor first and then refit the toilet afterward. This has both practical and visual advantages—the tile will have a better seal, and the installation will look cleaner.

On the other hand, when you try to cut the tiles to fit around the toilet, you’re putting yourself at a disadvantage. It’s a lot more work, it’s hard to be precise, and mistakes or miscalculations can lead to future moisture damage to the tiling, grout, and subfloor.
