"I had a breaker problem that was turning off the power to half my home in Bothell. Switch Electric responded promptly to my call for help & the very nice young man who came to my home was extremely knowledgeable, thorough & systematic in his approach to identify the problem. I highly recommend Switch Electric. The two young men who assisted me in rectifying the breaker problem were great. Anyone who wants high level expertise in electrical matters, prompt response & excellent communication skills, hire Switch Electric for your electrical needs."

"I have had the pleasure of working with Smart Electric for a couple years now. I am a Project Manager for a Custom Home Builder and this company has it dialed in! Joe is amazing to work with. He excels in putting together bids quickly, being very communicative, and is always very professional. They also have an all-star crew. Jason and Keith are some of the best electrical leads I have worked with. They always have a great attitude onsite. Also a shout out to the office staff Sammy & Molly are great to work with. They are always on top of scheduling inspections and communicating updates with me. Highly recommend Smart Electric!"

"Full Service Electrical was excellent across the board, and I will be using them in the future for any electrical work that may come up. Peter was quick, efficient, and very knowledgeable. He worked straight through two full days to get the job done, even coming back the second day to complete a few more items that unexpectedly came up during the first days work. I was quoted their very reasonable (for Seattle!) hourly rate for the extra work, and he was back the next day to finish everything up. He had novel solutions for my old house wiring that helped keep the job minimally invasive, and he was very respectful of our space, taking great care to clean up after himself. All in all, a very good experience at a very fair price. Can't recommend them enough!"

Small jobs welcome

"We had three separate (not scary) electrical problems that had been annoying us for some time. I posted on Angi's List that I was looking for an electrician, and McCarthy Electric responded promptly. We didn't have to wait very long at all for an appointment. Our electrician not only quickly fixed those annoying problems, two of them requiring some creative thinking, but he also had such a pleasant, respectful personality. I am thrilled with the outcome!"

"They were professional, polite and careful to be considerate of the home. The job was an unexpected need to upgrade an electrical circuit to accommodate a hot water tank replacement. While I was not thrilled about the unplanned expense, I was very happy with the process with Seatown EH&A"

"We had In-House Electrical replace/upgrade our main panel as well as setup a generator hook-up and A/C outlet outside. Adam and Avery were phenomenal - they were thorough, kept in constant communication with me during the project to ensure things were being done as I liked, and left the place looking better than when they showed up. They'll be my first call in the future for any electrical work I need done."

"Alex and his brother Nick completely rewired our entire house remodel and put in a new breaker box. They listened to what we wanted and made great suggestions. They were professional and efficient and very reasonably priced. I will never go anywhere else if I have any electrical needs in the future! They even helped my mom out and she was thrilled with how nice they were and the ideas they had for her condo. Top Notch!!"

Electrical questions, answered by experts

Upgrading a two-prong outlet to a three-prong outlet typically costs between $20 and $50 per outlet if the electrical box is already grounded. However, the cost can increase significantly if the system is not grounded, as this may require grounding the box or upgrading your electrical panel. Electricians generally charge between $50 and $100 per hour for labor, and the total cost for a more complex installation could range from $130 to $300.

No. When applied properly, electrical tape is designed to be an insulating material with high resistance to electricity. It can reinforce electrical connections and act as a safeguard to help ensure the electrical current stays within its designated pathways. However, it’s important to note that it can break down over time and you should never use it as a replacement for electrical wire caps.

Yes, gas dryers still need electricity. While their heating system relies solely on natural gas to produce the heat that dries your clothes, gas dryers use electricity to power the lights and display screens on their interface, turn on the drum, and power any automatic moisture sensors inside the unit.

Unless you’re a licensed electrician, you should not DIY any electrical work in your home. Working with wires and electricity is potentially dangerous to both you and the structure you’re working on, and it could lead to house fires or electric shock if you’re not 100% sure what you’re doing. There’s a big difference between changing a light switch cover and rewiring an entire home. If you’re staring down a potentially difficult electrical job, give a pro a call.

You can twist the wires before using a wire nut, but it’s not necessary. Electricians often twist wires before using a wire nut, which can help secure the connection and enhance electrical contact between wires. You can decide whether or not to twist the wires beforehand, or consult a local electrician if you need  professional opinion.
