"I helped my in laws set up a painter for the interior of their house. After several quotes Alpha had the best pricing according to the high quality I wanted and I had heard there name around town for having a great reputation so we decided to chose them as the painters. They also have an instagram which I liked how responsive they were on and could easily view the portfolio (@alphacontractors) They were able to schedule the painting within a week and completed the entire house (4200 sq. ft.) in only 3 days! Once the house was finished it was just outstanding!!!!!!! The interior was completely transformed. We chose a white color and how clean the kept everything was so impressive. Throughout the process they were providing me with lots of updates and made sure I felt involved. They did great work, left all the excess paint for us like we asked and even came and did some free touch ups after they had new carpet installed. This company is really the leading company in Oregon. Best part is now they are going to do some work at my house!!!!!! Highly recommend!"

Deck Staining questions, answered by experts

Satin paint is generally considered a better choice for woodwork—including trim, baseboards, cabinets, and doors—than flatter finishes like eggshell or matte. Its soft sheen enhances architectural details and stands up well to frequent cleaning and daily wear. Compared to eggshell and matte finishes, satin is more durable for high-touch areas because it is less porous and doesn't absorb dirt as easily. Matte finishes, in particular, are prone to scuffs and are harder to clean, making them less practical for surfaces like doors and cabinets.

Deciding whether to stain or paint a pool deck depends on your budget, desired look, and the deck's material. Both options can work. Paint offers a wider variety of color options, provides excellent water resistance, and can last longer. However, it requires a primer and can eventually fade or peel. Stain is often cheaper, easier to apply, and penetrates the wood for a more natural look and longer-lasting finish. It also has great water resistance. The downsides are fewer color options and the need for a sealant. The choice can also depend on the deck material; for example, staining may be a better option for concrete as it bonds well and lasts longer than paint.

Pricing depends on prep work, paint/stain choice, area size, scaffolding needs, and detailed trim inclusions like precision-balanced windowsills.

It is definitely worth sanding a deck to ensure the wood absorbs new stain. Sanding a deck removes the outer layers of aging wood, allowing the stain to penetrate. It also gives a fresh look to the entire surface as part of the deck refinishing process. Without sanding, your stain or sealant is less likely to absorb into the wood. While sanding a deck is a time-intensive project, the rewards are noticeable and long-lasting.

A properly applied coat of stain will last between 3 and 8 years, depending on your climate. If you live in a place where your fence experiences a lot of moisture or high heat, your stain will last for a shorter period than in more temperate conditions. We recommend reapplying stain every 3 to 5 years to keep your wood in good condition.
