"I needed my attic insulation updated. It had the original “blown in” loose material from 1975. After 49 years it had deteriorated and compressed. It was only a few inches deep. Also a leak in our old roof (recently replaced) had caused some mold in the old insulation. It had to be removed completely and redone. I called JB Insulation and asked for an estimate. Jose came over and inspected our attic. His experience and expertise was evident by how he explained everything. I felt very confident that I wanted his company to do the job. His price was very competitive and offered us the most value for our money. On the day of the job, his guys took much care in preparing for the job. They covered and taped our floors and wall corners to protect our home’s interior. They used a high powered insulation vacuum and removed all of the old insulation. They installed the new insulation and new baffles all in one day. Our attic looks great and we are really happy with their work. Yes I would recommend JB Insulation."

"We were on a tight budget due to unforeseen costs from other parts of our lives. Rafael was very accommodating and helped guide us to the best option. We had our garage completely resided but could afford the whole house. They did one side of the house which was critical. The cost was within bid given and the work was amazingly fast, friendly and professional. We will use them again to finish the rest of the house once we are back financially."

"Terence came and looked at our crawlspace, and told us we had post and beam construction, and described what they could do to insulate. We got two estimates from them (and another from a different company). We hired Hybrid. The crew was pleasant, hard working, and cleaned up when they were done. The work took longer than they predicted by a day, and the estimate was probably too low. They honored it. We'd hire them again in a minute."

"From the initial messaging contact via Angie's List to the day construction was finished Jon Beecham was a complete pleasure to work with!  He replied quickly to my first message and he arrived on-time for our first meet-up to discuss my project.  Jon asked questions until he understood what I wanted built, he got an estimate back to me within 2 days and he let me know when my project would fit into his schedule.  His price was excellent and I liked that the materials and labor costs were clear.  He and his crew were punctual, worked hard all day and left the site spotless every evening before they left for the day.  Jon and crew finished the job in three days.  The patio covering looks great and the quality of workmanship is top-flight!  I love the patio covering and recommend Jon highly!"

Insulation questions, answered by experts

Yes, eco-friendly blown-in insulation options include materials made from recycled cellulose or wool. These offer excellent thermal performance and sustainability, reducing energy consumption and environmental impact while enhancing home efficiency.

R-30 insulation is better for higher thermal resistance, but whether it’s "better" depends on the application. R-30 is much thicker and suited for areas like attics or floors in cold climates, where more insulation is required. R-13, on the other hand, is thinner and works well for 2x4 walls or milder climates where less insulation is sufficient. Choosing between R-13 and R-30 depends on the area being insulated and the climate. For example, R-30 provides more insulation but may not fit everywhere in your home.

Minimal, mainly occasional checks for damage or mold in extreme conditions.

The primary downside of radiant barriers is their limited effectiveness in cold climates. They are designed to reflect radiant heat, making them less beneficial in cooler conditions where heat retention is more important.

Radiant barriers require proper installation to maximize effectiveness. Incorrect placement can lead to minimal benefits. They also do not provide insulation, meaning they should be used in conjunction with traditional insulation for optimal energy efficiency.

In some cases, yes, insulating an unheated garage can lead to mold and mildew. The issue with insulating a garage is that the interior will warm up and cool down more slowly than the exterior air, which can cause condensation inside the space. Where there is moisture, there is likely to be mold and mildew over time. Installing a vapor barrier can help avoid moisture and mildew problems in an insulated garage.
