"The problem turned out to be a burned out small electric door switch. I believe the price was way too expensive for the service performed and the price of the door switch. What more can I say? It got done."

"We tried this on our own but had trouble with the connections. Though it was a tiny job, P.O.P. was understanding and helpful; their tech guy came the next day. He was quick, efficient, and friendly - fixed everything and explained the wiring and grounding pattern each step of the way. I wouldn't hesitate to contact this company for any future work."

"After we had completed some remodeling in the downstairs of our home . . . to make more room for guest quarters and general family use . . . we noticed that whenever we had guests stay with us . . . we were tripping a fuse . . . it just seemed that if the wrong combination of things were plugged it . . . pow . . . darkness in odd places throughout the house.  We'd simply re-trip the fuse box and life would go on BUT OVER TIME it became EMBARRASSING.  It would happen more often (especially with added electrical decorations) during the holidays.  We finally told ourselves ?there MUST BE a way to FIX this problem.  Lets get this taken care of before the next wave of friends, family and holidays come.?
We went to Angies list for an electrician recommendation and we really appreciated the reviews given for Thompson Electric.  The comments were the kind I would hope to be able to make for whoever we chose to come.   So I called Tom of Thompson Electric.  Tom first came by to get a first-hand feel for the work that we were wanting him to get done.  He was prompt, professional, walked with me through the house as he made an itemized list of what needed to be tackled.  He actually solved a fixture problem in one of our bathrooms (in 90 seconds) . . . and smiled.  I shared our list of electrical stuff that we wanted some professional attention; a couple of lighting fixtures that didn't work; a bathroom fan that made a horrible noise; some sockets that had burn marks around the openings; etc. and the BIG BLOW THE FUSE "Something's wrong with our downstairs wiring?? problem.
Tom was EXTREMELY GREAT about being available and flexible to our personal schedules.  One time I had to do an "oops" cancel of a day and it wasn't a problem.
On the day that Tom was to commence his work . . . he was GREAT about keeping in telephone contact on his actual arrival time in the morning (he needed to finish up a small task before coming our way) . . . he went right to work . . . very methodical, professional, with a all the tools and equipment needed for each task.  He brought in his assistant (a little later that day) to help him with some of the extensive troubleshooting, rewiring, running line [for the BIG problem] . . . and VIOLA the big problem and challenges were ALL fixed . . . basically in ONE visit.  [there was one small part that he had to come back to install a day later . . . took all of 10 minutes].
Tom was pushy . . . always recommended the most economical direct fix . . . shared my options as to how this or that could be best solved before proceeding.
They CLEANED UP after themselves as they went . . . Tom found and fixed a couple of "other" small socket problems that he discovered along the way (and I had forgotten about).  I was VERY PLEASED with his work; his service; and final bill . . . which was MORE than FAIR considering the amount of work that needed to be done!!
It was a FIRST CLASS POSITIVE experience from beginning to end . . . AND I told a colleague of mine that I now have "an electrician" ....someone I know I can call when and if there's ever an electrical problem!!

"We are in the process of putting together a small hair salon and needed a licensed/bonded/insured electrician to be sure that the install of fixtures and wiring was to code requirements. After several months of planning and talking with numerous electricians on the phone, I found Troy, owner of Pacific Home Electric, to be by far, the best choice for the job. He was quite honest and up front about true costs of accessories, needing to do an on-site estimate for greatest pricing accuracy, and even went out of his way to tell me where to get my own fixtures to save even more money. Of the 5 licensed electricians I talked to, none of them would come and do a pre-estimate other than Troy at PHE. All others wanted to just schedule the appointment and gave me ballpark estimates of what the cost could be and left it open to "..depending on the situation when we see it." They showed up just a few minutes past the scheduled time due to GPS routing issues and this was quite understandable as I tend to live quite a ways away from their familiar territory. He and his journeyman got to work immediately upon arrival. They were well-prepared with a company van which seemed to be stocked with every conceivable item needed to tackle some of the odd on-demand requests I had made after the fact. This was amazing to me! The weather was exceptionally hot during the installation (102 degrees and no air conditioning!) but this didn't seem to faze them. They worked straight through the day, only stopping for 30 minutes to grab a quick lunch. At the end of the process, I made a last minute request to drop in an extra outlet and Troy even threw that in at no extra charge. So technically, the total came out lower than what the estimate would have been had I requested that up front. At the end of the day, Troy followed up with me again one last time to make sure that everything was well and that I was completely happy with the install, which I was. I've permanently affixed their business card to my wall next to the fuse panel and won't even need to think twice about calling them to do my next upcoming project or problem."

FAQs for electrical service projects in Quilcene, WA

It’s important to ask an electrician a few questions before you commit to hiring them so you can make an informed decision as a consumer. If you’re getting estimates or considering hiring an electrician, ask them these questions:

  • Are you a full-time electrician?

  • Are you bonded, licensed, and insured?

  • What level of experience do you have as an electrician?

  • Can you please share three references?

  • Do you do residential or commercial electrical work?

  • What kinds of electrical work are you most familiar with?

  • Will any subcontractors be performing the work?

  • Are permits and inspections required?

  • Who is responsible for obtaining permits and inspections?

  • What is your schedule?

  • Do you offer a guarantee or warranty on your work?

  • Will you sign a do-not-exceed clause to keep the job within the budget?

Tipping an electrician is not a requirement nor is it expected, as they build a fair wage into the price of the job. It’s up to your discretion. There are no set rules for tipping electricians, but if they did a great job and you’re so inclined to tip 10% to 15%, it will likely be received with thanks.

Yes, you should get a quote or an estimate from an electrician. Most electricians offer free estimates or quotes. When getting quotes, do your research and verify each electrician’s license. Get quotes from three different electricians to compare. If the prices or items listed appear different on the quotes, ask the electrician to clarify. Learning as much as you can about the electrical work you want done will help you get the most accurate estimate.

Qualified, licensed electricians will charge from $50 to $100 per hour. The cost to hire an electrician for emergency visits may range from $100 to $200 per hour because this urgent service usually takes place during off hours and may require an electrician to leave or reschedule jobs they’re currently working on. Scheduling work on holidays or during periods of high customer demand, like after a major storm, will also lead to higher rates or extra fees.

Yes, although there are different types of electricians, they must be licensed, certified, and in most cases insured. States have different requirements for electrician licensing and certifications. In some cases, there may be licensing requirements at the local level, but not the state level. It’s always a good practice to confirm requirements with your local municipality. If licensing is not required in your area, you may pay more for a licensed electrician with experience than one who is not licensed or certified, but you’re likely to get a better end result for your project.

As you browse our pro listings, take note of the “Angi Approved” badge. Angi Approved businesses meet our standards for certification which include:

  • The owner, principal, or relevant manager passed a criminal background check

  • Required to have applicable state and local licenses

  • Maintain an average star rating of 3.0 or better on our network, if they have at least one review

  • Paying to advertise their services

  • Meeting any other eligibility criteria required by Angi

Keep in mind licensing is different from certifications. A license is a legal requirement to operate a business, while certifications are voluntary.
