Customers say: True professional

"John and Nathaniel did a beautiful job of creating a privacy fence for my front yard. They are craftsmen who care about the quality of their work and I have a fence I will be proud of for years to come. They are professional, polite and a pleasure to work with. I highly recommend them if you are looking for a contractor who will deliver a beautiful finished product at a fair and honest price."

"Wonderful job! I first called to put in a new fence around my pool and back yard. Then I called to add a fence to my side yard. Still impressed I called and had a fence and gate installed in my breezeway! Fair pricing, hand built and good eye for detail. I couldn’t be happier!"

"The landscape turf looks great and is perfect for our needs. The workers were professional, hard working and very pleasant to work with. We had a small privacy fence built. We had a small issue with the fence. We contacted Peter, and he immediately agreed to come himself and take care of it. He did so promptly and professionally and we are happy with the finished product."

"Great!!  Ken is very personable and easy to talk to.  He gave us a discount from his initial bid and included the fence at no charge.  We felt we got a fair price.  Our house is 2-story, 2800 square feet, with very high roof peaks and high upstairs windows.  A lot of difficult ladder work.  We wouldn't want to be up there.  Our house was painted in two days by a VERY professional and experienced crew.  They taped off the many windows in no time and worked steadily each day.  We have cedar siding and were impressed that the job included caulking of all corner areas from top to bottom.  There were remains of an ivy vine on some of the siding and over the front door.  Everything was neatly scraped off.  Ken used Miller Evolution paint, one of the best in the business.
We found out about Ken's Painting by referral from two neighbors whose houses he painted within the last two years.  Angie's List is great, but word of mouth referrals are great, too.  If anyone in the neighborhood asks us for a recommendation, we will refer them to Ken.  Thank you Ken.  Happy painting!!

"They did a nice a job but I felt like they were overpriced. They added some decking to make a privacy wall. They installed wood slats with lattice across the top. They also installed decorative fencing along the sides of the house. I felt this was a bait and switch deal as they charged $60/hr per worker. The quality of the work was nice, however."

Fencing questions, answered by experts

The depth of your post hole depends on your post length. If you decide on a two-rail fence, the posts are likely 6 feet long. You want your hole to be at least 1/3 of the post length. In this case, your post hole should be two feet deep.

If you opt for a three-rail fence, the posts will typically be 7 feet long, meaning your post hole should be 28 inches deep.

One of the best alternatives to a snow fence is to plant a living snow fence of grasses, shrubs, trees, and crops like corn. Another temporary option is using hay bales to create a barrier to disrupt the wind flow, and cause snow to accumulate in specific areas. However, hay bales are not a permanent option, so keep that in mind when choosing what type of snow fence you should install.

One of the best features of composite fences is their long lifespan. You can expect your composite fence to last 20 to 30 years. It lasts long because it consists of recycled plastic and wood fibers. The plastic offers durability that wood alone can’t provide. It’s mold- and rot-resistant, as well as weather-resistant.

Some types of snow fences may work for keeping Fido in your yard. The openings can be small enough to prevent a dog from escaping. However, you want to make sure the openings aren’t susceptible for them to get stuck. While some types may contain the pup, the fence will require regular inspection and maintenance. It’s best to discuss which type of snow fence is ideal for your needs with a pro.

A fence post set in concrete lasts anywhere from five to over 25 years, depending on how well the concrete was applied and the fence post’s material. Untreated wood posts in concrete could last less than 10 years, but a durable, treated wood set in properly applied concrete could last a few decades. However, all fence posts will wear out eventually, so expect to need to replace your fence post every five to 15 years.
