"Stigall Tree Service, LLC is 5 STARS and if you look to the right I left a review last week. HomeAdvisor gets NO STARS for continuing to send me emails to review this job. Past review: Great Job! Great Price! The job was completed the second day from the phone call. Stigall explained the tree cuttings and how the tree would grow from now on. Suggestions were given to us to treat the moss on our roof. We were..."

"Harold and his crew did an amazing job. H&M gave us the lowest bid on removing three large evergreens trees. The high bid was 3 times what Harold's quote was! Harold and his crew were prompt, professional, considerate and went way above and beyond our expectations. Thank you H&M!"

"The customer service was excellent, and I want to commend the company for their prompt response and professionalism. The irrigation system line I mentioned before was damaged due to tree roots infiltrating the pipes, causing leaks. The team quickly assessed the situation."

"The tree was protected so he couldn't cut all of it down, even though most of it was dead. So he climbed it and cut off the dead parts that were threatening to fall on my house. He then cleaned up the mess.
I also had hired him to trim another tree the year before and that went well also.

"Fantastic!! Dennis and crew arrived right on time to tackle a MONSTER maple tree that had been giving me headaches for years. They were very professional and it was obvious that they knew exactly what they were doing! This tree had heavy branches that hung over my house, and not a single one even came remotely close to the house as they brought them down. Highly recommended!! A+++"

"He called me right awat; we set up a time to evaluate the project; agreed on a time and extent of service. The day for the work, he was running late and called me to tell me he'd be here in an hour and he was. They worked efficiently and carefully and cleaned up well. We talked about more work later in the summer. I was quite pleased with his accountability and expertise."

Tree Service questions, answered by experts

The best time to cut down a tree is during its dormant season, typically in winter or early spring, after all the leaves have fallen. Removing a tree during this period is advantageous for several reasons. Frozen ground helps secure the tree stump, protects the surrounding landscape from damage, and reduces the risk of the tree falling in an unintended direction. With the leaves gone, there is less risk of the tree's foliage getting tangled with other trees. Additionally, since this is often a slower season for tree services, you may be able to hire a professional at a lower rate. This dormant period is also the best time for tree trimming.

Unfortunately, most of the time you’re out of luck if a neighbor’s tree blocks your view. You don’t have a right to a view, so if you have a tree that’s near the property line but on your neighbor’s property, you can’t cut it to be able to take in a majestic mountain or a beautiful sunrise. In some communities, however, there are ordinances protecting scenic views. Checking into your local laws can help you determine your rights in this situation.

While there is a lot of debate about whether boiling water is strong enough to kill tree roots, it is not best to remove the roots from large, old trees. You may be able to weaken young roots enough to remove them manually, but boiling water will likely not do the trick for large root systems.

Generally, you should prune around 20% of an apple tree’s growth—and never more than 30%. This means that if you have a severely overgrown tree, it can take a few seasons to prune it back enough to produce the healthiest fruit.

If you’re dealing with a newly planted or juvenile tree, hold off on pruning beyond the initial shaping. Wait at least a couple of seasons into fruit production since pruning can increase the number of water sprouts and unproductive foliage.

In nature, there are many things that can cause a tree to die, including diseases, insects, and natural disasters such as fires or droughts. Non-natural methods of killing a tree include herbicides or manual intervention, such as cutting it down. Consult a tree removal professional about your options for naturally killing a tree.
