"After submitting a request for a quote online, I received a call within 10 minutes. They showed up for the home quote on time and were available to come over in the late afternoon since both my husband and I work full-time. We were able to get a finite date for one week later with no issues. Every worker was polite and professional and they also moved the furniture for us, removed the carpet and disposed of the carpet for us. They made it a point to explain the process before and during the flooring installation and made sure that they were proud of the work they were doing. The flooring turned out amazing and they were able to finish the second floor in one day. They even stayed the to prevent delaying the project another day. There were no hidden fees and most importantly they honored the original date that was scheduled. I highly recommend Infinity Wood Floors. P.S. they were also very dog friendly."

Flooring Installation questions, answered by experts

The costs range from $3 to $10 per square foot, depending on the carpet type, labor, and subfloor preparation.

The best flooring for radiant heat systems is tile, including porcelain, ceramic, and natural stone. These materials are excellent heat conductors, retain warmth well, and are waterproof, which prevents mold or rot in case of leaks from a hydronic system. Unlike wood, they do not pose a fire safety risk if the heating system overheats. Ceramic tile is a particularly popular choice as it is inexpensive, easy to install, and available in many styles, making it ideal for spaces like bathrooms. Other flooring types that work well with radiant heat include laminate, engineered wood, and vinyl. If you are installing radiant heating over a concrete slab, especially in a basement, it is advisable to install a vapor barrier first to prevent issues with moisture and condensation.

Few home upgrades add resale value above their installation cost, including terrazzo floors. However, they are still a good option if you like the look. While terrazzo may be expensive, it has a solid return on investment of around 55% to 70%. The durability and low maintenance requirements of terrazzo can be appealing selling points, as many buyers will appreciate flooring that can last 40 to 100 years.

As with anything you buy, be wary of prices that seem too good to be true. Some low-cost flooring products can contain chemicals that release harmful VOCs (volatile organic compounds) in the form of fumes that can be inhaled or dust that can cause skin conditions.

Even good-quality products can be dangerous for DIY-ers who don’t take proper precautions. Always carefully read manufacturer instructions and wear the recommended protective gear when working with paints and other chemicals. You can also hire a local garage flooring pro with the experience and equipment needed to perform the installation safely with no lingering fumes or debris.

Start the first row of vinyl planks along the longest or most visible wall in the room. This will create a clean, straight foundation row to build off of. Snap a chalk line to guide the first row, and use spacers for the most precise installation—these maintain an even extension gap between the flooring planks and the wall. Finally, double-check that the first row is level before moving on to the second row. If it’s not, start over and get it right before completing the rest of the floor.
