"They worked quickly and efficiently for what they were hired to do. Friendly, hard working, and professional. Beautiful when done. I would hire them again. My only complaint was taking care of plants that were removed from the garden to be put back in after new bed was built."

"Great experience.  We were planning to wait a little longer to do this project, but a leak in the old roof prompted us to do the entire job and not just patch the old one.  We had three quotes, and Hoover was the best for price and doing what we wanted.  We had wanted to add a new gutter where one was not put in originally (stupid design by house builder!) and they had no problem adding it.  Another company didn't think it was possible and the other company was going to make us rewire the outside light fixture and that would require patching the cedar siding and would look terrible!  Hoover said, "no problem" and didn't even charge extra!  We also had them reroute another section of downspout to cut down on the noise against our bedroom wall, and again this was done to our complete satisfaction.  Our job was done during an early snowstorm and we had no leaking whatsoever during the time of construction while we waited for the snow to melt.  Our home has a very step driveway, and difficult access to the step pitched roof.  They had no problem getting the roofing materials up on top and doing the job!  They cleaned up very well, I hardly found any nails or debris afterward and considering all the snow I was amazed at how little was left behind.

"On time and on budget- Surprised that's not part of the rating system here! My husband and I are elated with the work Palm did for us. I've always been a skeptical person, and when it comes to hiring someone to do work in my personal space, I also become apprehensive. So It was a massive relief to meet with Yonatan. He is convivial and highly competent in his craft. He listened to what we wanted, asked all the right questions, gave us a quote, a timeline, ensured we bought the right materials, and was in constant communication with us. The oversight and execution on this project was seamless. The scope of work entailed tearing out a shower, old vanity, demoing walls and floors, removing and replacing toilets, wiring, painting, tiling walls and floors, putting pocket shelves in, installing lights and hardware - in TWO weeks (a powder room and main bathroom). In the middle of it, we asked if the guys could paint the interior of our loft as well. The obvious answer was 'yes', but the surprise was that it made no difference to two-week time frame. Having made ourselves scarce for that time, when we got back, Yonatan met us at our place, gleaming with pride. He walked us through all the work we had agreed to and called out very small things his crew did in the few days following. Did I already say we are elated with the outcomes? The place is amazing and feels new again!"

"Joe is a really nice guy.  He worked with us to get a design for a bathroom that we truly liked within our budget.  Unfortunately the projects took 4 months rather than the expected one month.  The initial tile job was not satisfactory and his sub contractors consistently failed to show up when they said they would.  It was a very frustrating experience. Joe always answered our phone call, and tried to address our issues.  I wish his subs had done the same. Ultimately we got a lovely bathroom that is *mostly* done well.  We still have some issues with the shower floor which the plumber blames on the tile guy and vice verse.  We got so sick of waiting for sub contractors that would or would not show up.  We just let the last issue go.

"Filipe was amazing. He came out promptly to give an estimate and was able to begin the job within a matter of days. We needed a general yard cleanup and he absolutely crushed it in terms of the quality he provided. Along the way he had some suggestions to help make the exterior of my home look even better and I plan to hire him for these additional jobs as well."

Snow Removal questions, answered by experts

In most cases, it is best to leave icicles on your roof and allow them to melt naturally. You should only remove them if they are heavy enough to cause damage to your home or pose a safety risk to people below. Attempting to remove icicles yourself can be dangerous, so if you are concerned about immediate damage, it is recommended to hire a professional. To prevent icicles from recurring, you should address the underlying cause, which is often poor insulation. Long-term solutions include improving your home's insulation or installing roof heating coils.

Snow removal services cost between $50 and $200, depending on the type and size of the job. Ice-melting services are often offered alongside snow removal and other winter maintenance scheduling. You can contact a local snow removal service to ask about rates in your area, and if they offer residential removal services.

While it’s less common than on other kinds of roofs, yes, ice dams can form on metal roofs. Metal roofs, particularly those with snow guards installed, can still accumulate ice at the roof edge, although ice dams on metal roofs are less likely to cause roof or interior damage than on traditional asphalt shingle roofs.

When starting the engine, you typically leave the choke on a snowblower in the "choke" or "closed" position. After starting, let the engine run for a few minutes to warm up. Then, gradually open the choke, moving it to the "open" or "run" position, allowing more air into the engine and transitioning to a normal fuel-air mixture. The exact duration varies based on the snowblower model and ambient temperature, but as a general rule, you should open the choke once the engine has stabilized and runs smoothly, typically within a few minutes.

Some commercial services use sand when clearing ice, but that’s to add instant traction, not to melt the ice. While you can scatter kitty litter, sand, or similar substances on steps, paths, or porches to improve safety during icy conditions, they won’t help melt hardened ice. Rely on salt or other de-icing methods to fully melt away stubborn ice.
