Colonial Restorations is a father/son company. We use no subcontractors so at least one of us is always on site. Since 1981, Colonial Restorations has provided structural restoration and repair of historic timber frame buildings. A family business, Tom and Brad Green perform all work themselves in order to make sure that your historic timber frame project receives all the experience and commitment it requires.

"Barn Rescue – My barn was hit by a vehicle, which broke a large post and pushed section of siding out from under the roofline, plus major damage at ground level. Brad shored it up for the winter with an array of jacks and an enormous chain to ensure the thing wouldn’t fall down till they could return in the spring. Come spring, they fully replaced the damaged section’s support members and facade, and added bracing to the attic, rendering it stronger than before. Foundation support: The sagging beams and jerry-rigged support columns in the dirt basement of our 18th century house were inadequate. They dug and poured a dozen footings and lally columns, supporting a line of new 6x6 and 9x9 beams that provide solid support to the house above. They showed up promptly every day, worked fast, and left the site clean and finished. Both Brad and Chad have a deep knowledge about old houses and the techniques that were used, and I felt my historic register property was in good hands."

It’s almost always more affordable to buy an existing home, especially if the alternative is building a custom home. You can’t add home addition costs to an existing mortgage, but you can include them in a new mortgage if you take out a rehab loan. Rehab loans—FHA-backed 203k loans and conventional rehab loans—are for more than the value of a property, and the excess is meant to cover the cost of a renovation or home addition.

In most cases, the cost of hiring a hardscape contractor is a worthwhile investment. Hardscaping projects can get quite expensive, but they improve the utility of your yard, boost your curb appeal, and usually improve the value of your home. Patios, decks, retaining walls, and other components are challenging to install, and mistakes can be costly.
