Home Wise is the premeir inspection business located in colchester Vermont.Home Wise has been serving Vermont home buyers and sellers since 2004. Wheather your buying or selling, having a home inspevction is a Wise decision.

"Disappointed. Inspection report contained factual errors and failed to note deficiencies we talked about during the inspection. For instance, it refers to asbestos ceiling s that are not present and failed to note a section of flooring that is a potential asbestos containing material. Noted some cracks in foundation, but did not cute others. When I pointed this out and asked him to correct the report, he refused and said I need to get an engineer. Call the furnace oil burning when it gas. Made multiple comments about tripping hazards while on site, but report says there are no tripping hazards. I specifically showed him problems with kitchen cabinets, and report says they are in good working order. The report is 27 pages long, but there is a HUGE amount of repeated text and duplicated legal disclaimer boilerplate. If he stated the disclaimers once and didn't cut and paste the same text so much, the report would be less than half as many pages. And the report says right on front page that it's for my exclusive use, and he won't send it to anyone else without my permission, but when I got the first copy of by email he had copied my real estate broker. Not a problem, but not what he said he'd do. After I got first copy, I emailed back with comments and questions. Got no response to this or follow up email, so called a couple days later. He hadn't even looked at his email. All in all, my impression is that Bruce is most interested in covering his butt, and keeping his notes as neutral as possible. Not very helpful. I've used other home inspectors in past that were better."

Home Inspection questions, answered by experts

Yes, hiring a real estate agent is worth it. Many homeowners make the mistake of trying to sell their homes by themselves, thinking that they’ll save money on the commission, but what they save on the commission, they very often pay for in frustration and concessions on the sale price. Hiring a real estate agent to handle the sale of your home not only makes the process far easier and takes the burden off of you, but most homeowners get more for their homes when going through an agent because of the marketing and salesmanship they bring to the table.

One of the best ways to know your chimney is good to go on any given night is to simply look up into your flue with a flashlight. If you see a thick buildup of creosote—a shiny, dark substance that looks like tar—it’s best to have your fireplace professionally cleaned before you go ahead with the burn. Additionally, having your fireplace professionally inspected once per year can also help increase your peace of mind and keep your family and your home safe.

Living in a termite-infested home isn’t just annoying—it’s risky. These pests can quietly chew through wood, weakening your walls, floors, and even the structure of your house. On top of the safety concerns, there’s the financial stress of repairs, not to mention potential health issues from mold or allergens stirred up by termite activity.

By nature, two-prong outlets aren't grounded—but the box they run to might be, which makes them safer. The safest way to test if an outlet is grounded is to purchase a circuit tester, which cost about $20 at home improvement stores.

If you discover your outlet (or outlets) aren't grounded, know that this greatly increases your risk of personal injury and electrical fires. You may want to consider installing new three-prong ground fault circuit interrupter (GFCI) outlets. On average, the cost to install GFCI outlets is about $210 per outlet.

A visual inspection may or may not reveal ceiling joists. Examine the ceiling surface for clues like nails, screws, or small dimples used to attach drywall or plaster to the joists. Look for subtle indentations or ridges indicating a joist beneath the surface. Observe any patterns or symmetrical features in the ceiling that could indicate the presence of underlying structural elements.
