JW Home Improvement

JW Home Improvement did an excellent job on my home. Josh Metz, their estimator, was one of the most knowledgeable professionals we have ever met. As we inspected the exterior trim of our home which had rotting and and other maintenance needs, he was constantly photographing each spot to describe the exact work needed for our estimate. Then he provided in writing a flawless description of everything to be done with an accurate estimate. We found the pricing to be fair, not inexpensive, but complete. The JW crew who arrived to do the work (Carlos Del Castillo & Juan Rodriquez) were sensational! They replaced the rotted wood with PVC (never to rot again) and painted and caulked the work superbly. My wife and I both believe their work to be some of the best done on our house. We now recommend JW Home Improvement to our family and closest friends and neighbors. We give them an A+ for this job. Many thanks, Bill & Anni

I have used JW Home Improvement services for several years and they never disappoint. Pablo Molina and Mario Cortex were true artisans; professional, and meticulous attention to detail in every aspect of the project. They restored my 33-year-old porch to its original state.

Kitchen Saver

This was a painless process to get a new kitchen that looks as if it was a total gut job. The cabinetry far exceeds our expectations in quality and beauty. Our installer, Tim Mitchell, was superb. His attention to detail shows in every aspect of the project. He was professional, friendly, and punctual. The entire job only took 7 days, and I had full use of my kitchen every evening. It made perfect sense to keep my original "boxes" from my kitchen as they were solid wood, and I had no intention of changing the footprint of my kitchen layout. I would recommend Kitchen Savers and Tim Mitchell without question. Also, Kitchen Savers works with Green Sky Financial and I was able to get a five year 0% interest loan which made my project very affordable

Exterior Medics
5.0
We had a good experience. Exterior Medics was referred to us by an interior carpenter that we’ve used several times. Although it took awhile for our work to begin we were kept informed by Ben and Steve of approximate start dates and any delays because of weather or materials. The work was done to our expectations, carefully supervised by Steve, and the workers kept the area clean when not working

AROCON Roofing & Construction

Everything about the project was an excellent experience. Great work all around, timely work and response, all for fair pricing. All interaction with the company and any workers was a painless experience. If you are getting a quote for any roofing, portico work or anything else that Arocon does, I would get a quote from them

JW Home Improvement

“I strongly recommend JW Home Improvement for all home repair and renovation needs. Over the past few weeks we have had various projects completed, including, exhaust fan installation, stairwell repair, dry wall repair, exterior dormer and trim replacement and gutter/downspout painting. All of the technicians were friendly, prompt, knowledgeable, respectful, highly skilled and operated efficiently to finish ahead of scheduled time. Pedro, Kevin and Antonio in particular were exceptional in going above and beyond to produce truly beautiful work. The craftsmanship and precision displayed by these technicians was extraordinary and they were an absolute pleasure to have in my home.

Excellent. The work performed was excellent. The only issues were related to supply chain which were beyond GBC’s control.

JW Home Improvement

We bought our townhouse knowing it was going to need a few projects done in the short term. One of those was the creaky, squeaky staircase connecting the main level to the upper floor. Several of the steps were obviously insecure, bouncing and flexing whenever we stepped on them. However, carpet covered the stairs so we could not see the full extent of the problem or the cause. We contacted three home improvement companies for estimates. Josh from JW was the only one who seemed to have some idea of what was happening and what it would take to fix it. One of the other companies sent an estimator who shuffled around and took some perfunctory measurements, very clearly uninterested. The third company provided an estimate after looking at a photo on the phone, and that estimate was to rip out the carpet and see what the problem was—actually fixing it would be more. On our starting day, Alejandro and Pedro examined the stairs closely, taking off some of the drywall underneath to see if the stringers needed bracing, and taking the carpet off to examine the topside. It became clear that the stairs were in truly bad condition, with warped treads, risers that were not connected to treads anymore (if ever) and the wood used for the treads was too thin. Over the course of that first morning, our project plan evolved into a tear-out and rebuild of the entire staircase. One of them went to get materials and the other began the preparations. For the next four days our house was full of sawing and pounding and sanding, and when they finished on the afternoon of the fourth day we had a beautiful, solid and secure staircase, for a final cost that was less than I had expected. I’ve seen some reviews that say the workers are slow; in our case, they were meticulous, careful to do every step of the work correctly. Slow? I’m sure they could have done it faster, but it would have been at the expense of quality work. Alejandro and Pedro were friendly, hard-working and highly skilled. I recommend JW without reservation and will certainly bring them back when I have another project that demands their level of skill

Could not have gone better. They made the necessary construction modifications required in an old, uneven house, they did the work in just over one month, and we very clear about the additional costs that arose from construction obstacles as well as additional items we selected for them to do.

DMV Kitchen & Bath Inc
5.0
We selected DMV based on our previous experience with the company starting with Rolando who successfully remodeled our kitchen and 3 baths back in 2015 and with Javier in remodeling of 1 bathroom, construction of an outdoor shed, and finally remodeling of our 1st and 2nd floors. For details on this more recent 2022 project consult my review elsewhere on Anji. . The construction area consisted of two sides of the basement--the “finished” side for an office *** guest room plus a small hallway; the other, a larger “unfinished” side for storage. The project began by moving everything in the small hallway to other parts of the house. Then they cleared what would be the “finished” side of the basement moving the sofa bed, several desks, 3 bookcases, a couple office chairs, a table, several bookcases, 7 file cabinets, clothes and other items from the closet, and numerous boxes of books plus files removed from file cabinets to the other side of the basement or, when necessary, to other parts of the house, outdoor shed, and garage while they worked on the “finished” side. Some of the items in the “unfinished” side had to be moved out of the basement to another part of the house to make room for heavier items that could not be lugged upstairs without breaking someone’s back. Two more file cabinets that I had not yet emptied they moved on a dolly to the other side of the basement. I regretted having emptied the 7 other file cabinets so that even more boxes with file contents had to be carefully labelled and moved to the other side. That was my fault! It was a complex undertaking since we were adding to what was already stored on the “unfinished” side, but the men were creative, cooperative, and experienced in meeting the challenge with us. The work began on the “finished” side and small hallway with demolition of the existing ceiling and lighting. Once the men cleaned up that mess they installed electrical cabling, wood, and drywall for the ceiling. They repaired the 2 feet of drywall around the bottom perimeter of the wall. Once the basic structure was in place they applied 2 coats of plaster to the walls and ceiling, and then sanded them. They taped the corners and joints. Following our selection of paint, they applied primer on the walls and ceiling, sanded, and then applied 2 coats of off-white paint to the walls and ceiling. What a beautiful transformation of the walls! To prepare for the installation of the luxury vinyl tile floor planks on the “finished” side and hallway they evened out the existing concrete with additional concrete. They lay the beautiful, brownish-gray floor planks on the concrete floor. Javier convinced us that the brownish-gray would be a good selection and he was right. Then the men installed baseboards and shoe molding around walls of the finished side and hallway. At some point they installed 8 recessed lights. What amazing acoustics in that room while it was still empty! In the latter phase of the “finished” side Alvaro repaired, sanded, and painted the stairway and lay the luxury vinyl tile floor planks to the stairs. To match the stairway, he sanded and stained the stair railing to match the stairs. He also repaired, sanded, and painted the walls off-white on either side of the stairway and the ceiling. Finally he painted the door separating the basement and kitchen. What a major transformation of that stairway! We were so pleased with the results! In the next phase of the project we transferred our attention to the “unfinished” side. After covering all the furniture, boxes, etc. with plastic they installed electrical cabling, wood, and dry wall on the ceiling. Then they applied plaster to the ceiling, sanded it, primed and painted it with 2 coats of paint. Then they installed 11 recessed lights to what previously was a deep, dark dungeon. When that major work was completed and the plastic removed, they vacuumed the area as best they could and moved the furniture and some of the boxes and bins back to the “finished” side. After a gap in construction Alvaro installed four heavy-duty, industrial-welded, steel storage units with adjustable shelves along the walls of the “unfinished” side of the basement so we didn’t have to worry about flimsy shelves collapsing with the weight of heavy boxes and plastic bins. Gradually we filled the shelves and file cabinets, moving some items temporarily stored in other parts of the house back to the basement. Alvaro (?) also installed a steel storage unit at one end of the garage to hold our daughters’ heavy boxes, some of which had been moved out of the basement and were collapsing with the weight of far too many boxes stacked on each other. Thanks to Javier for that creative solution to the problem! The DMV workmen did some additional jobs not directly related to repairing and painting walls and ceilings, installing hardwood/vinyl floors and lighting in the basement. Once the major work was done in the basement they went upstairs and moved some of the remaining displaced items to other parts of the house, garage, and shed. They installed a smoke detector and carbon monoxide detector, secured 2 bookcases to the wall, installed 3 transition pieces on the floors beneath the doorways, and installed 3 dimmers for the lights. After completing most of the work in the basement they performed extra tasks not listed in the contract upstairs, tasks like tightening the screws in a door that would not close, installing a toilet seat, repairing a knob on one of our utility closets, and moving an office chair in the family room to the garage for goodwill. Fabio installed 4 internet connections: 2 in the basement, 1 in the family room on the ground floor, and 1 in the den on the second floor. Finally my husband and I could use our computers! Then when all was said and done the men installed dimmers swept and cleaned the two sides of the basement and hallway one last time. Muchas gracias to Alex and Wilmer for doing most of the moving, cleaning, and trash collection, to Alvaro and Cesar for doing the construction including installation of the shelving units, to Fabio for installing the 4 internet connections, and to Orlando and Jose for wrapping things up at the end. Bon trabajo! The quality of materials and workmanship on the basement remodeling was exceptional as we have come to expect of this company. And because we are an elderly couple we really appreciated the extra help in moving things around in the basement and around the house. The workmen were reliable, polite, honest, skilled, hardworking, and flexible in adjusting to additions and changes from time to time. They always took extra care to clean up at the end of the day and to pick up trash as it was collected. The price seems reasonable given the extra work not previously budgeted. Javier was great at planning, communicating, and allowing for extra time when we needed it to make decisions on where to put things or to do some of the moving ourselves, but he could certainly have benefited from having a right-hand man to assist him when he was not immediately available. We would highly recommend DMV for home remodeling projects. "I was really pleased with the handyman services provided by JW Home Improvement. Everything ran smoothly from the first contact, estimating, scheduling, and then finally to the actual handyman work. Thomas was courteous, professional and diligent. When it looked like he had to come back to finish the second job of our requested work (due to a part that had to be ordered), it was handled efficiently without any issue. Thomas completed both projects well and within the time allotted. I highly recommend JW Home Improvement and we definitely would use their services again.

"Edwin Loayes and his team were fantastic! He provided a fair quote for the work and kept to the estimate. His team was extremely careful in our home, taking care to cover furniture and prevent damage to our wood floors so that paint and drywall didn't damage anything. Their attention to detail was also professional, taking care to make sure everything looked better than we they walked in. They even went out of their way to fix little blemishes and properly secure wall-mounted fixtures after repainting. We also appreciated the fact that they took their COVID-19 precautions seriously, wearing face masks at all time without us having to remind them or ask. They had estimated that it would take three days to complete the work, but Edwin brought in an extra few guys on the second day so they could complete the work in two days—which we appreciated since we are (like everyone) working from home and had to sequester ourselves to another level of the condo. I would highly recommend Loayes and look forward to seeking their services again.

"The contractor came out promptly to give me an estimate. He informed me that the company would be in touch with me the next day to schedule the job. After a week of not hearing from them, I contacted another company to do the job. Handyman On Call did ultimately call me to schedule the job, and I informed them that I went elsewhere due to their lack of responsiveness. The woman on the phone was kind and understanding.

"I was impressed. They took pictures and kept me informed of what they were doing, what needed to be done. They also showed me wood that was rotting and needed to be replaced . They matched the outside paint perfectly because this was a townhouse and had to match. This company was first to respond from Angie’s list and did not disappoint me. I would recommend this company.
