Cliff is an incredible inspector. Our realtors and counterparty's realtors were amazed at the level of detail and amount of care he and his team paid to every aspect of our house. We've recommended him to several of our friends who had similarly good experiences. We also had him help us inspect some environmental damage to our house and he was incredibly helpful with strategizing what and how to get things repaired. There's no more enthusiastic way to put it than you should have him do your next home inspection.

Cliff and his team were fantastic!! They were exceedingly thorough and gave a comprehensive walk-through and subsequent report on everything that could possibly be of issue to a potential buyer for a very old home. The report was also very timely and very detailed as well completely with pictures to illustrate the points being discussed. Very impressed with Cliff's work! Want to ask him to consult on the remodel of the home, in fact.

I used this company both times before purchasing a home. I found the representative to be extremely professional and thorough as well as patient and detailed. He not only sought to ensure that thorough inspections were done, but also educated me about how systems in my homes worked. He also returned after the purchase of the homes to ensure that any outstanding issues were noted. I would highly recommend this company for anyone looking for an objective, thorough, and professional home inspection.

Cliff and team were phenomenal. The home inspection was thorough, and they took the time to explain all of their findings with us - - including a phone call or two. We recommend Capitol Hill Home Inspection to everyone we know

Mr Kornegay acted as the home inspector for the house that we sold in 2014. He was chosen by the purchasers, and for all I know they were very happy with his work. The deal went through, and his inspection did not materially affect the price, so this is not a sour grapes review. As is customary in these transactions, I only know him through his written report, which we were required to act on, and I cannot comment on his punctuality or personality.
I can comment on several of the recommendations that he made to the buyers, and the response that our contractors made to our requests to "fix" them. Most of the contractors responses are unprintable. I will limit it to about three examples.
First, he insisted that there was no shut off valve in the sump pump. Any plumber will tell you that the valve is contained in the sump pump itself, and is integral to its operation. Our waterproofer confirmed that the reservoir had not been opened, and that therefore this ridiculous assertion could not possibly be based on an actual assessment of the pump, but nonetheless displayed substantial ignorance of the general theory of sump pumps.
He insisted that all of the electrical outlets mounted above the countertop in the kitchen were required to be GFI, that is, to have a fuse as part of the circuit. He was not acquainted enough with basic wiring to know that, even though only one of them had an actual fuse rest button mounted on the plate, all of them were wired into this same reset button, and were fully compliant. The electrician who was asked to fix this "Problem" had to wait about ten minutes to stop laughing before he could reply to it. Mr Kornegay also suggested that we install AFCI outlets in the bedroom in a manner that the electrician said would be dangerous and violate building codes, and which we therefore declined to do.
I could go on. He said that there was a leak in the downstairs shower that turned out to be coming around the edge of the curtain- but at least there was a leak!. He insisted on fixes to the exterior shingles and siding in two areas where the contractors couldn't see anything to fix and when he later provided pictures, the shingle problem was literally a scratch mark.
Sure, he found actual stuff. We had some mice. We ultimately paid to shore up the basement although that was disputable.
I just want to highlight that we did consummate that deal, and we only moved down the street, so we still see our buyers, who seem to like the house. I waited to write this review until some of this started sounding funny to me. It wasn't funny then. I think it is especially helpful to my fellow Angie's listers to note when someone who claims to be a knowledgeable professional can be proven to be talking through his hat. On our job at least, that describes Mr Kornegay all the way through.

Response from Capitol Hill Home Inspection LLC
"As stated we didn't do the inspection for this reviewer. I'm not sure as to what address this review corresponds to since we don't know the reviewer. 1. We may have stated that the sump pump didn't have a visible check valve, which is required. If it's integrated into the sump pump that's great. We didn't know it, but are glad to hear that the check valve was present. If it was a sewage ejector pump, it should have a gate valve. 2. We probably wrote that the kitchen counter top outlets were required to be GFCI protected, which has been part of the electrical code for some time. ALL kitchen counter top outlets are required to be GFCI protected. It's true that you only need one GFCI outlet per circuit and usually we would notice that and not write it in the report. Not sure what happened here. I can't imagine where we'd recommend a fused circuit. 3. We recommend upgrading to AFCI protection circuits for bedrooms because that is the electrical code. Google it. AFCI circuit protection prevents fires and is becoming the new standard for almost all household circuits. There isn't a possible scenario where an AFCI breaker would be an electrical hazard. Wikipedia entry on this is good to read. We'd be happy to point to electrical code where all of this is required if anyone is interested."

Cliff provided an excellent home inspection of our condo, he had his assistant there as well.  He explained any issues he found and also explained how to maintain certain aspects of our home.  He also provided a detailed  report within 24 hours.

He and his team were fantastic - professional, thorough, detail-oriented, and clearly very knowledgeable/qualified. The report they generated was very detailed with many photos and recommendations. I am writing this review almost two years later because I was recently reminded of his quality service when a friend had a less positive experience with another inspector. I would highly recommend him without any reservations.

Cliff was quick to confirm an appointment time and his team conducted a very thorough buyer's condo inspection in about an hour. He and his partner arrived on time and immediately split up to cover the unit. His experience with other units in the building gave us insight on potential problems and he identified hard-to-find leak issues, areas where previous repairs used the wrong materials, and several electrical and HVAC issues. He even tested the washer/dryer and shower and was able to identify problem areas. Great insight into non-critical issues as well. Took lots of photos that illustrated his report well, which we received in 6 hours. Price was more than fair (and as a top-rated inspector, his rate turned out to actually the cheapest!)  Professional, comprehensive, and efficient. Highly recommended.

Cliff and his assistant were very thorough in their inspection and offered a lot of good suggestions throughout the process. He arrived on time and efficiently worked through the property. The home was over 70 years old and I appreciated Cliff's knowledge of how a home this old was built, how it will continue to age and the materials used.
The report he provided me afterward was a great resource not only for the purchase but for long-term upgrades and service work that should be performed to prevent bigger problems down the road.
He accepted credit card payment on the spot which was very convenient.  I should add that Cliff is really responsive via email. Within an hour of emailing him asking for an appointment we had one scheduled for my preferred date and time. A+ for easy to do business with!

Overall, it was well worth the money to have invested in the inspection of my property.
My  row house was built around 1928, I moved into the home around 1980 and throughout the years I have had the usual home repair/
maintenance issues?plumbing, roof replacement, electrical, etc.  It seems the new cycle of home repair/maintenance
is upon me.  However, I before I proceed with calls to various contractors/repairmen I needed a ?third-eye.?  I needed to uncover possible problems related to my home, and a professional home inspector would  probably expose issues in my home.  Cliff Komegay was the home inspector I selected  and I am happy I did so.  He performed his work in a professional, honest, and thorough manner?from the basement to roof top.  He provided me with a detailed report (including images) and recommendations on what items needed to be addressed immediately or in the future.  He took time to listen to my concerns and addressed all of my questions; offered the name of an structural engineer and  gave me a discount on my fee too. I am especially glad to be made aware of electrical hazards.  Once I've made repairs   I hope  to be more comfortable in my home for years to come. I appreciate  Mr. Komegay's expertise  and   I would recommend him to anyone in need of  a professional home inspection.

Capitol Hill Home Inspection provided a thorough house inspection and a prompt, detailed written report including pictures, descriptions, and recommendations. The information that was gathered and provided by CHHI was critical to our negotiations with the seller, and our eventual peace of mind once the home buying process was successful. We were very fortunate and greatly benefited from Cliff's background, expertise, and commitment to safe, high-quality home building.  Thanks again, Cliff!

Exceptional service.  Cliff and his team are extremely thorough and found many issues that might have been overlooked by another inspector.  He was efficient, detailed and has excellent explanations for all the issues.  When I asked questions, he made sure they were clearly answered.  I would strongly suggest using Capitol Hill Home Inspection and will use them again in the future.

Cliff and his associate came out at a time convenient for us and conducted a thorough, ~3-hour inspection of the house and property.  He took the time to explain the issues with us.  By the end of the next day, we had an inspection report emailed to us.

What was exceptional to us was the many trips to the house Cliff made after the initial inspection.  He accompanied us through TWO "final" walkthroughs, one with the seller, and conducted additional inspections to make sure the seller completed the items agreed to in the contract.  He was able to reference code requirements when there were questions from the seller.

We feel we got outstanding service for a reasonable fee and would recommend Cliff to anyone.

I am always very skeptical about dealing with mechanics because I know very little about cars and suspect that they are all crooks. It doesn't help matters when you're in a position that you must trust them because your car won't start. Some of my concerns about Norris' garage were allayed because I found them on Angie's List and because the tow truck that picked up my car had good things to say. I developed even more confidence when they called me first thing the following morning to explain what was wrong with my car and the work they would need to do. Basically I needed a new crank sensor.
Larry is the right-hand to owner Joe, and both are very competent and knowledgeable. At first brush, Joe comes across a bit gruff but after you talk to him a while, you can tell that he is really passionate about automotive maintenance and repair. He takes the time to explain everything that is wrong with your car and suggests a course of action to address the issues. What I really appreciated is that it wasn't a hard sell to come back to his shop--he was more interested in driver safety and taking care of the car. I'll definitely take my car back for the services Joe recommended.
My only complaint is that they aren't open late or on the weekends, but I guess everyone has to have a life.

I called Capitol Home Inspection on Thursday and left a message. Within a few minutes I received an email from Cliff who was happy to provide me with home inspection services.
Cliff runs a two man shop, but don't let this put you off - he's very hard working, comes out on weekends, and is very responsive. I found that Cliff responded quickest to emails and text messages, mainly because he's always onsite doing an inspection.
I'd originally asked Cliff for a Monday appointment, and then my realtor asked if I could get an earlier time, due to contract contingency. Cliff responded quickly after he received a cancellation and got us in Saturday afternoon.
On the day, Cliff was running 15 minutes behind, so he sent me a text message to say he was running late. When He arrived, we chatted about the inspection process, what I could expect, and the cost. Cliff was happy for me and my wife to follow him around for the next 4 hours, asking questions. Cliff pointed out a lot o things that passed inspection, but would be worth our time upgrading or performing maintenance. Home Inspectors are really only supposed to tell you if equipment is functioning or not, but Cliff went the extra mile and indicated in his report when the furnace and AC equipment was passed it's best.
I never felt rushed, or that Cliff was in a hurry. He meticulously wrote notes and took pictures. Cliff even pointed ou evidence of a damp basement by the dehumidifiers in storage. Cliff was also not afraid to go into crawl spaces, move stuff to get at walls and under carpeting.
Cliff produced an accurate and concise report (see his web site for a sample) by Sunday night, before our contingency ran out Monday. Radon had to sit until Monday, so he went back to get it and gave me a report on the findings as soon as he came from the property.
Overall I felt that Cliff was a likable, professional, and approachable guy. I understand why he has received Angie's stamps for excellence. I would recommend Cliff to anyone who needs a Home Inspector, and am happy to answer questions for anyone who wants to ask.

All three inspections Cliff conducted far exceeded expectations.  I ended up pulling out of two house offers based on his excellent work, as he'd discovered significant issues that were otherwise hidden from view - thus saving me tens of thousands of dollars in the long run.  He spent a considerable amount of time on every part of the house, demonstrating a genuine interest in determining the condition of everything you could access, short of pulling down walls.  Cliff was extremely patient, explaining everything and answering my many questions - in the process, I've learned a tremendous amount.  The reports he produces are extremely detailed, with pictures illustrating every finding.  His rates are very competitive, and with Cliff, you get service that far exceeds the typical inspection experience.  I would not hesitate to recommend him to anyone, and I have been consistently impressed with him over the three times I've hired him.  It's worth every penny.

Had a home inspection conducted everything was checked a very thorough job was performed. The inspection covered all areas from the basement to the attic and the roof! Cliff, informed me of items that were not an issue currently but if left untreated could become a potential problem down the road. He had sophisticated equipment that could detect moisture behind walls and windows very impressive. This company is solid. I was able to feel confident that the home I was buying would not become a money pit or turn up any surprises after the closing due to missing some defect. Great job I will use again in the future.

Cliff and his assistant were very thorough, they took over 3 1/2 hours for a modest sized home inspection.  As potential first time home buyers, we had several questions which they were happen to answer.  He kept in touch via email and text.  For example, there was a huge accident nearby the day of the inspection, and Cliff texted to say he would be about 30 minutes late but his assistant would be on time.  He was maybe 10 minutes late (we were even later because of the same accident).  He initially indicated that the report might be sent that night, but texted early the next morning to say it would be sent later that afternoon.  His inspection revealed several major issues/potential issues, which gave us the information we needed to decide that we didn't want to spend the next several years dumping money into an old house to bring it up to code.
