Lofft completed a total renovation of the main floor of our home and we are very pleased with the outcome of the project and really enjoy our new kitchen!
We had an outdated first floor in our 1920s row house with an awful galley kitchen, worn floors and existing water damage on the back exterior wall.
Alex (our project manager) and his team did the following: removed load bearing walls and constructed beams to create an open floor plan; replaced the old hardwood floors that were beyond repair; moved the kitchen from one side of the house to the other; replaced French doors with windows (including masonry work); installed new exterior door and windows; moved hot water radiators and installed new pipes; installed new plumbing for kitchen; installed new electric for first floor; installed kitchen cabinets and countertops; installed appliances; tile work; exposed a brick wall by removing old plaster; framing and insulation; drywall; and interior and exterior painting.
Throughout the process, dealing with Lofft was a pleasure. They obtained all the required permits/approvals and were very helpful in helping to choose materials which can be overwhelming. There was no pressure to use their suppliers (cabinets/countertops/etc.) although we ended up utilizing many of their recommendations as their prices/quality were outstanding. Thankfully, we experienced no major problems during construction and minor issues were addressed in a timely manner.
We would certainly recommend Lofft Construction and will consider them for future projects.

I have worked with TR Granite and Atila on countertops for more than 10 kitchens over the past 5-7 years. They provide high quality product at reasonable prices and stand behind their work. Not much more one can ask for. They are my go to for new projects.

Charged us $5000 to reseal concrete countertops in kitchen. Professed to be experts in this area. Looked good for 6 months then started to crack, peel and stain. Called company multiple times, they said they were busy but would do job when time permitted. Continued to put me off for 3 months...

We love the countertop. Their service was impeccable, the install was way faster than they originally quoted (just 4 days - 2 over the weekend! from measurement to install), and they cleaned up after themselves so well. I would definitely hire them again.

"If you want to work with someone condescending, rude, confrontational, unprofessional, and whose contractors workmanship is probably the worst I have ever encountered in my 30 years of working with contractors, THIS IS YOUR GUY. I can ramble on about the false promises, the horrible workmanship, the constant delays, the lack of communication, the rude and confrontational text messages. I guarantee Mr. Shank will in fact respond to this review and try to flip the script and blame it all on me somehow. He talks very poorly about all his customers well at least the ones he doesn't like. Not sure what that is based on although I do have some idea what is based on. But he never made anything explicit, so I can't make accusations that he is a racist. So I am definitely not saying he is a racist because he didn't do anything racist. But if he was a racist it would explain why he didn't give two poops about doing good work for multiple projects I provided him. I also have multiple properties and was hoping to make Mr. Shank a lifelong contractor. In a nutshell, he has done 2 projects for me at 2 properties. One was installing a threshold for a glass enclosed shower stall. His crappy sub contractor (they are not employees) despite him saying they are employees, did not install any grouting on the threshold. Fast forward 1 year, and mold is popping up all around the threshold. Rather than dealing with this individual, I hired another contractor to fix up his mess. Second job, and my second mistake, I hired him for a full scale home renovation for around 50K. That project was an absolute disaster. He took 3 months to do what he promised to me verbally would be a 3 week job. I don't really want to spend 1 hour writing down all the crap he did wrong. I'll try so sum up the highlights. Ripped out old flooring, promised to make new flooring level after installing new concrete by using lasers. New flooring is totally not level and as bumpy as walking on your local trail. The shoe moldings around the flooring look like a child installed them. I had to argue with him to get him to regrout the bathroom which was in his contract in the first place. I can go on and on. For sure if you are someone that Mr. Shank likes and match his criteria of what he likes, whatever that could be I have no idea definitely not race related. He may do a great job for you and that may explain the great reviews. I myself had a horrible experience with Mr. Shank and his group of sub contractors who just plain do terrible work. Ignore my review or take it seriously, frankly this guy will keep getting business cause he's a great salesman. Even has a LinkedIN profile to show how professional he is. Epic scammer and fraud. Stay away."

Whether you want to remodel your existing home or build a brand new one, Thomas Custom Builders can help. Our 70+ years of combined experience as Northern Virginia general contractors and our commitment to quality ensures your custom construction or design-build project will be a success. Be it a master suite, custom kitchen or home addition, we dig deep to learn what’s making you spend your time and resources on this particular project. We honestly discuss the costs associated with your goals, then we deliver what we do best: excellence in custom remodeling. The only thing that counts is finishing your job exactly the way you want it. No compromise.
"In short, things went GREAT, and I can whole-heartedly recommend Thomas Custom Builders (TCB), which is a "design-build" firm. Here's how things went: Firstly, expect that they have a backlog, and it may take a while to get to your project - probably because their reputation proceeds them. It took nearly 9 months between when we started with them on scoping our our project to when we broke ground, however we ended up with a design that worked. Through that phase, we worked with TCB on what goals we wanted to achieve, and what our budget was, and they designed to achieve as much of our goals within our budget. During construction, TCB promised to have a foreman who spoke fluent English on-site every day, and they delivered on that. This stood in pretty stark contrast with some of my previous contracting experiences, where the project could languish without seeing anyone come to the site. With TCB, the project always moved forward - sometimes it moved rapidly, with multiple trades on-site - sometimes it moved moderately, with the foreman and a couple helpers - and sometimes it was just the foreman handling things himself - but it always moved. TCB also is the kind of company that won't nickle and dime you. If something small is missed in the project scope that is needed to really complete the project, they'll do it. Don't expect them to shell out thousands of dollars in that respect - that would be a change order (which I had one) - but at the end of the day, I very much got the impression that they really took pride in their work and wanted me to be happy with the end result, which I am. TCB estimated the job would take between 3 to 4.5 months, and they completed in 4 months. I had one change order to connect my concrete/flagstone walkway to my stairs, which we had missed in the scope and was too big of a cost for TCB to absorb ($2.5k), however that was the only overage, so all in all we stayed on-budget. Things that we got done in the project: - Bumped out front to add walk-in closet and much bigger master bath to master bedroom. - Reconfigured entryway with a foyer/mudroom and semi-open staircase to attic. - insulated attic. It's still unfinished, but much better for storage. - new roof w/ 30 year shingles - widened dining - family room entry to be open concept. - re-did fireplace wall with built-ins, stone tile, gas insert - new paint for most of first floor - refinished all hardwood. One thing that we did to help out is that we completely moved out of the first floor as well as most of the attic stuff into a POD. TCB will readily tell you that they aren't professional movers, so go ahead and hire a professional moving firm to do that for you to clear the way for TCB to do their work. We used 2 men and a truck and were very happy with them."

"My Kitchen and bath had exceeded my expectations with regards to quality, price , and timeliness of my kitchen project . The PM estimated 2 and half weeks to 3 weeks but it was done in 2 weeks, just before Christmas ! The staff was very friendly and attentive . They listened and understood what I wanted for my dream kitchen . Duncan, presented me with options for my kitchen to meet my budget . Although ,I chose the latter which was to have my dream kitchen and decide not to bend on that. Sam was thorough with all the final walk through and made sure I was happy before leaving my house. Attention to detail was what I appreciated most with the whole process . I felt safe in the sense where my kitchen would not be left unfinished midway . I recommend this company to anyone who is renovating !"

Yes, you should hire a handyman who’s licensed, certified, and insured, if possible. States have different requirements for handyman licensing, registration, and certifications. If licensing is required in your area, you may pay more for a licensed handyman with experience than one who is not licensed or certified, but you’re likely to get a better end result for your project. Be sure to check our state licensing tool to review the local handymen guidelines.
