"Snell installed a new air handler and condenser for me. It was an improvement over what I had, but performance didn’t match what was promised. To their credit, they were super responsive, tried to troubleshoot the issue, and ultimately gave a partial refund to make up for overpromising results from this big investment in a new system. Because of the classy way they handled everything, I’d recommend them."

"Our air conditioning system was not working properly. We called the company that put the system in and their technician told us we needed to install a new condenser. We called Parrish for an estimate on a new condenser based on Home Advisor's recommendation. Parrish Services came to our home, performed a diagnosis, and determined we did not need a new condenser. Ended up saving us thousands!"

"Juan and Chris did a wonderful job. Everything works and looks great, and they even managed to cut just 2 holes in my ceiling, to install 5 new light fixtures and reassign switches to them. They were professional, considerate, and friendly. And Juan made friends with my insufficiently-napped toddler, which the toddler and I both enjoyed."

"I had a very good experience with Reddick & Sons from beginning to end. I contacted them via Angie's List about a quote for recessed lighting and they got back to me right away. They sent a representative out to see the work we wanted done. We wanted recessed lights put up in 3 rooms. I initially told them that I wanted 4 lights in each room. However, when the representative came out, he told my husband that we really only needed 2 lights rather than 4 in two of the rooms. I appreciate the fact that they made a recommendation that saved us some money, even though it meant they would not make as much on the job! The person who came to do the job showed up on time, was friendly and professional. I showed him the rooms and he got straight to work. He did a great job. We were very pleased with the final product. I would not hesitate to call on this company again."

"We needed to replace our bedroom ceiling fan.  There was a discount in Angies List for All American Electric.  The coupon was for labor only - they would not provide the new fan nor haul away the old.  We bought the new fan ourselves at Lowe's.  American Electric was very easy to work with.  We called them, set up a time on a Saturday, they showed up on time and did the job in about an hour and a half.  The knew what they were doing and were very polite and kept us informed as they worked.  They put down drop cloths, cleaned up after themselves, and the new fan worked with no problems.   They did not take the old fan, so we took it to a Habitat for Humanity re-sale store in Manassas VA.  Overall, we were very satisfies with the experience.

Ceiling Fans questions, answered by experts

The square footage of your room will dictate the correct ceiling fan blade size. For example:

  • Rooms smaller than 75 square feet require a fan that is 29 to 36 inches.

  • Rooms up to 175 square feet require 42- to 48-inch fans.

  • Rooms up to 350 square feet require 52- to 56-inch fans.

  • Expansive spaces over 350 square feet need a fan larger than 60 inches.

Yes, ceiling fans come with a few other features that help with function, style, and convenience. Multi-speed fans can give you specialized control over the airflow. Consider getting one with an integrated light to save ceiling space. Some ceiling fans come with a remote control that enables you to change direction without climbing a ladder. Of course, you can also consider installing a wall switch to enjoy that convenience.

If you’re removing a ceiling fan without visible screws, start by locating the fan canopy—a round cover placed above the fan blades and motor. There should be a thin ring that can be turned counterclockwise to remove the canopy and reveal the screws. After unscrewing the fan, you can disconnect the wires and remove the entire fan from the mounting hardware. For safety, make sure the fan switch is turned off before you remove the canopy. It may be easier to remove the fan blades first, too.

There’s no reason why you can’t install a ceiling fan anywhere in your home, such as in living rooms, offices, bedrooms, and dining areas. Most bathrooms already have ventilation and don’t need a ceiling fan. For safety purposes, avoid installing a ceiling fan where the blades will be less than eight feet from the floor, near bunk beds, or anywhere else they may hit nearby objects.

There are several telltale signs to let you know that your ceiling fan needs servicing or replacement. For instance, if it’s wobbling, rotating too slowly, or if your ceiling fan is making noise such as squeaks, buzzes, and thumps, it’s time to have it looked at by a professional. Not only may it indicate a potential problem with the fan itself, but it could also signal a red flag that it’s improperly assembled or there’s an issue with the wiring.
