"I don't like writing bad reviews, but this situation warrants it. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY! We had them replace our upstairs AC Unit in 2020. We were having problems with it feeling humid upstairs. A repairman came out and told us the unit was too big and there was nothing they could do. It was their fault they put the wrong unit in. If they had been professionals, they would have figured out why it needed to be replaced in the first place, and then figured out a 3 ton unit was too big and put in a 2 ton unit instead! So now we have been struggling to "dehumidify" the upstairs using a dehumifying unit. Our drywall is peeling and we're taking the hit after paying all of that money for the one they put in, and now we're going to have to replace this one! THEY ARE VERY UNPROFESSIONAL. Fast forward to this month. Our thermastat was not working correctly - it was not giving us a reading on the humidity (go figure), we called and they sent a man & a woman out. When they pulled up, they were in an black pic-up with no signage. The woman came to the door dressed in leggings, a hoodie (long nails, jewelry etc.) no uniforms on either person. The guy sat in the truck while she came in. I showed her the thermastat and she just looked at like it was a foreign object! I asked "have you done this before?" and she shook her head yes and said "I have to go get my tools." At this point, I'm very weary. It was about 10 minutes later and she had not come back & was leaning against the truck talking to the guy. I opened the door and they both looked up and then she came back in with no tools, but asked me if I had a manual. I did not, and I asked, if you have done this before, what's the problem? She ignored me and said "I'll just google it." I was literally shocked! So now I'm thinking, no sign on the truck, no uniforms, and she doesn't know what she's doing. Now I'm thinking I should have never let her in. What if they were going to rob me? Or what if they would have killed me? I should known better when I didn't see a work vehicle and no uniforms. I went to the door and yelled for them to leave, that they didn't know what they were doing & I doubted they were from the AC Company. The man swore at me and they left. My husband I both called A-Advanced and got a voice mail We both left messages about what happened. We were VERY UPSET. Of course no one called us back. BE AWARE OF THIS COMPANY!"

Our Mission: Your Total Comfort. At John C. Flood, Inc. we are committed to solving your heating, cooling, electrical and plumbing problems, not just selling you a replacement unit. Many of our customers have been part of the John C. Flood family for generations…and it makes sense. We stand by our word, something that seems to be rare these days. With John C. "Awful company, tried to scam me. The guy came here and took a look, tried to charge me $1600 for a single part replacement. He said it is not worth it so insist me to replace the whole furnace and AC, which would easily cost over $10k. I let him go and did my own research. I found the broken part and purchased a similar unit for $269 (a blow motor), replaced it and now my AC is running again. Especially this technician made me feel really uncomfortable. As soon as he arrived, he told me that my furnace and AC were very old and full of problems. He even started fiddling with another completely unrelated AC unit for quite a while, then told me that one also had all sorts of issues. Between the lines, it was clear he was just trying to get me to replace everything so they could make more money. I told him the other unit had no problems. He said he didn't know, so I went and turned the switch on--only to find the unit wasn't running at the time. I told him it had been working just fine earlier. Then he said, "oh yeah? so why isn't it running?" For a moment, I even wondered if he had sabotaged something while I wasn't looking... Thankfully, he was just being a jerk with his words and didn't actually do anything. If he had done something, this wouldn't just be a one-star review situation. Yes, also, Oh, and one more thing. When it came time to charge me, he asked for $99. But I found them through a promotion that clearly states new customers only pay $59. He made no effort to mention that. It was only after I brought it up that he adjusted the price. Classic predatory behavior. Anyway, try avoiding this predatory company."

Gas Leak Repair questions, answered by experts

Not all gas fireplaces need a chimney. If you install a ventless gas fireplace, it will release low levels of combustion byproducts back into your living space (instead of pushing them outside through a chimney or vent). Ventless fireplaces burn fuel efficiently, so the emissions are minimal—but they could bother people with allergies or respiratory issues.

A local natural gas plumber, gas fitter, or gas line specialist should fix gas leaks. Installing gas lines and connections improperly can lead to dangerous gas leaks and explosions. Only a certified plumber or gas line specialist should run gas lines. This is not a job to try out DIY skills, so hire a professional gas plumber or gas line specialist immediately to find the cause of the leak and fix it quickly.

This is a matter of personal preference, as each method has its own pros and cons. Oil furnaces are safer, but the smell can be off-putting to some consumers. Oil is also more expensive than gas. However, oil furnaces boast a higher BTU rate per hour, so a smaller amount of oil can heat a larger space when compared to a gas furnace.

Even if you invested in the cost of a gas shut-off valve for your oven and other appliances, it’s a good idea to add a seismic shut-off valve as an extra safety measure.

Gas shut-off valves for appliances are manual, meaning someone has to cut off the flow of gas. This leaves room for error, as you might not be home or might be too distracted to think about gas lines during an earthquake. An earthquake valve is automatic and will protect your home from gas-related disasters in the event of an earthquake.

Shut-off valves, like any other piece of metal hardware, can corrode, age, get worn down, and eventually break or rust into place. Occasionally spray your shut-off valve with WD-40 to stall it from rusting. If it really gets stuck, a wrench and WD-40 will usually do the trick, but you will need to call a plumber if it’s completely unmovable.
