Instead of replacing our master bath vanity, he gave us the measurements and had me go down to Renko to pick out a nice color and get it ordered. He then sanded down the old one and added two brushed coats of polyurethane. (Even removed all the doors and drawers, took them home to keep some of the polyurethane odor out of the bathroom) Today, it looks as good as new and it saved us allot of money because we didn't have to buy a new one.
He replaced the commode and re-caulked throughout the two bathrooms. He also painted our garage and garage door. What a difference. What I appreciated about him most is his motivation. While something is drying he is off working on another project. He doesn't sit around or go away and tell you he will be back when something finishes drying.

I knew precisely where the clean outs were and how deep. Their crew, Tim and Ray, arrived promptly, opened the two exposed tank lids and had the tank pumped-out and closed within a half-hour. They were neat, respectful of our property, and left no mess. They also provided a 10-point inspection of the tank and system. Very helpful to know that the system is working right and to have for planning the next cleanout. Because our 'sludge level' (point 5) at the bottom of the tank and 'scum blanket' (point 4) at the top was greater than recommended, they suggested we have the tank pumped out again in about 3 - 4 years. It has been about 9 years since we occupied the house....and started using the system. At my request, they also showed me what a clean-out 'riser' looks like and described it's installation. 'Risers' are permanent extensions of the cleanout openings to ground surface, with an air-tight secure cap, to eliminate digging down to the clean-out openings forever. Cost quoted was $200 each ($400 total) installed, provided they don't have to do any digging. Yet, when you hire a company to do a ?bigger? more costly job, there seems to be greater risk for problems (which never excuses anyone). I have learned to consider both the cost of the job as well as the size of the job before hiring. I encourage all of Angie?s members to include the cost, as many do not include the cost.
Nevertheless I had JC come out to the property on approximately the 9th of March. I provided him with a written report from an inspector, and we went through the things needed in the house. I was later contacted by JC via email with a proposal. He wrote out everything he would and could do. That included adding a frame for the tub shower. No demolition was ever mentioned or insinuated. There was no indication of any difficulty he would face when the install took place. I then called JC and I was asked to meet with him on the 12th of March to present a signed agreement along with 1300 dollars. I was told the work would be done in two days. This was important because I worked around the tenant?s schedules to make this happen.
The crew arrived on Wednesday the 14th. While removing the old cast iron tub they gouged the stairs in multiple places on the way down. They also banged the rail post/support at the bottom and loosened it. (Fast forward for a brief mention of the post; on day two it seemed they were not going to mention the loose post so I had to bring it up to JC. At that time his helper used a nail gun to insert a multitude of nails until the wobbling stopped. I am not sure if that was the correct manner in fixing a rail post/support.)
Moving back to day one; much of the day seemed to consist of loud banging upstairs. I figured they were building the frame for the tub shower. Later on in the day they had left?again, (I?ll mention this in a bit) without letting me know why or where? Fifteen minutes here and fifteen minutes there add up throughout the day. Nevertheless, I walked upstairs to see how the job was doing, and was shocked to see that they had removed the existing wall as well as the 2x4?s where the tub shower was to fit. (See photos) Why did they tear out the framing? Why did they not return any of the 2x4?s? When they returned I asked JC. He said the tub was going to cause a problem with the door opening so they had to tear out the wall to make it fit. The contract did not mention the destruction of a wall to accommodate a tub shower! Please note; if I had known this was going to happen I would NOT have permitted him to install the tub shower. This is an old house (1927) and I would not have disrupted the wall or framing if I didn?t have to. I would have found a tub shower to accommodate the size of the room. But because he did not take proper measurements, he could not forecast this problem.
On day two he continued to make the tub shower fit. While ripping into the floor near the drain, water began to drip over the kitchen sink. It appeared to me that the leak was caused by the disruption. However, when I was not in the room a conversation took place between the tenant and JC in which the tenant told JC that that leak had been there for years.
Again, the home inspector would probably have noticed an old existing leak right? A leak not caught by an inspector who was very thorough with everything else? Nevertheless, later on I was called outside where JC advised me what the tenant had earlier told him, and he pointed to a part on the ground that he said had been leaking prior to his work. I was advised I would have to pay for the repair; an additional $57.00 for a P Trap to be installed. Before I forget, I want to point out what I had mentioned earlier and that was his leaving the property, again and again. JC continued to disappear from the job site. He would leave multiple times to pick things up that he did not have, or he and one of his helpers would just leave w/o telling me he was going. I was simultaneously dealing with other contractors that day so it was difficult for me to ask him where he was going so frequently, but I was paying for him to be at the property. Thus, he should have had all his tools with him knowing what he was expected to do. Along with the continual departing from the premises, there was a continual disruption to answer his cell phone so he could talk to potential customers. But he was hired by me and expected to devote his time to me-for two days.
After I left on Thursday I thought ?the job is done. I will have an invoice mailed out to me for the balance, and therefore be through with JC Plumbing.? But, nope! On Saturday I receive a phone call from JC, advising me that they had been at the job and finished for the day. He stated the the bathroom was done, but they would have to come back out on Tuesday to finish the drywall where the ceiling was ripped out over the kitchen. First, I was not aware he was there working on Saturday. No one informed me he was going to be out there, but rather, they told only the tenant. Had he called me I would have said the work was to be done in two days, per our initial conversation. He is now calling me about day four? Again, these are my tenant?s and I did not want them to be bothered any more than they had to. Secondly, I asked him ?why Tuesday and not Monday?? Why drag this out? He said he had other work at another job on Monday so he would have to finish Tuesday. It is my opinion that because he had received $2200.00 with a balance of $174.00, I was now less of a priority. So at that time I asked him not to return. I basically fired him. I then immediately sent the balance owed.
Moving forward, I was not able to get back out to the property for about a week. No phone calls so I thought all was well. I brought my camera to record so other members could see. I walk into the bathroom and immediately notice that the floor is wet near the tub. (They had put in dry wood for a floor so the wetness was evidence of a new or existing leak) I also notice that the bathroom was not finished. (See pictures)
I saw two potential areas of where the leak could have been originating. The first was the area where the PEX and the copper were coupled together. Yep, the top one was leaking one drop per 6-7 seconds. For possibly a week now since they did the work. Did anybody check the crimping? The new plumber said it appeared they crimped over the paint which should have been sanded in order to attain a good bite. The second potential area in which water could be escaping from the tub shower was where the tub shower pieces were brought together to be stacked. Whoever did the caulking missed several places, allowing water to exit the shower and run down the wall behind it. (See pictures)
In addition to the above problems, the window is now affected. As a result of poor/negligent planning by the plumber, the tenant must now reach behind the wall of the shower in order to access the window opener. (See picture) It is no longer simple to turn and requires extra effort to open.
It is possible that he would argue he was not through with the bathroom and therefore, by dismissing him he was unable to complete it. But then, why tell me the bathroom was done? And, when you consider something as simple as the shower head itself, you see from the picture that it is missing the circular plate that goes on before the head is installed in order to conceal"},"url":"https://www.angi.com/companylist/us/va/roanoke/jc-plumbing%2C-inc-reviews-2307686.htm"},"position":3},{"@type":"ListItem","item":{"@type":"LocalBusiness","name":"Cook Siding & Window Co Inc","address":{"@type":"PostalAddress","addressRegion":"VA","addressCountry":"US"},"review":{"@type":"Review","author":{"@type":"Person","name":"W. As always, it is not the customer service you receive before the contractor does the work because who would be a monster to you at that point? Real customer service is experienced after you find a problem and you want it fixed. Then you find out who is genuine and has good customer service.
It was worthless to deal with the ?three B's since this company was a paying member. Nevertheless, facts are facts and anyone i my area looking for siding and windows needs to be aware.
When we began to look for a company that would meet our savings budget we found Cook would fit the range. (You'll hear why in a moment) We went into the showroom and were sold on certain products with certain promises and warranties. Doors, siding, gutters and windows. The whole enchilada.
As they were doing the siding we kept complaining of the quality. Nothing was consistent with the siding. Four different men did the siding and they all had their own way of installation. They left pencil marks, the siding was not cut even and there were gaps. They broke things like our sprinkler. We complained and complained and they kept coming back out to fix it, but they could not get it right. I finally said forget it.
Since the replacement of the new Seaway windows, we actually hear more noises from the outside. But how could this be when we were told the new windows would "reduce the noise". The window felt is still uneven to this day and a few of the screens are uneven and thus, bugs are moving in rent free. One of the windows installed had to see rain first before we knew it was not sealed properly.
The gutters were purchased on the premise they would keep the leaves off. Ha! Only if there is a "strong wind" we were later told after complaining. Wanna hear something funny? When they installed the gutters they even tried to keep the older drains that flow down. Again, we complained. As if we wouldn't notice the contrast between new and old?
The employees showed up when we didn't expect them to be there. One day we almost lost our dog because a worker had showed up and left the gate open. No one told us an employee was coming that day. Another day an employee even left a present in our recycle bin during a hot day. Was it a house warming gift or terrible customer service when an employee urinates in a water bottle and leaves it for us to dispose of? Never got a personal apology for that one, but I was told through the worthless mediation of the 3 B's that they fired the employee. I hear the Church Lady now; ?Now isn't that special?
I finally got tired of having to take time off and called Mr. Cook demanding he come out and address this crappy work. He came and I showed him things, but he said there was not much more that he could do. They would not offer some money back. I said I want the work to look the same as we saw it in the showroom and in the brochures. He said (I kid you not) when you go to Burger King you don't think you get the same burger that you see in the commercial do you? We paid this company with most of all our savings. (it was an old house and needed updates) To hear him tell us we were not to expect what we saw in the showroom was like slapping me in the face and saying "stupid that you would think you were going to get what you paid for".
Like I said, best customer service in the world until you have problems with the quality of work. Yes I am an idiot for paying them, but who really cares if I were to pursue it? The attorney said he would need money up front. I just gave it all to Cook Siding!
Please be aware of this company before you do business with them. If you contact them, ask Mr. Cook if he has heard from the man who left his "house warming gift" in our recycle bin, and see how he responds.
The reason I had to update this was to also make others aware of what a limited warranty can mean when a contractor relationship goes bad. We called Seaway and explained the nightmare of Cook Siding. Seaway had no compassion about our circumstances. We did just replace 29 windows and I guess I am crazy for thinking I could be a future Seaway customer and they could have sent another company in the area to fix the problem? Customer Service? They just shipped us the parts. I have no clue how to replace and repair the gear doohickey. They would not send someone to fix what was essentially a manufacture problem? We now have to find someone and pay them to fix what was under a warranty.

"I could not be happier with the service provided by Pierce Siding. Robbie Pierce was great to work with, he was extremely helpful identifying the right type and color of siding. The house is not a simple one having multiple floor, angles and a wrap around deck. The Pierce crew with Austin and Michael were fantastic. Weather didn't cooperate as we had a lot of rain and yet they would work weekends to make sure the job was done in a timely manner. The crew took no shortcuts - the house looks great! Security Doors questions, answered by experts
Windows and doors can be fitted with specialized seals and acoustic glass options for better noise reduction.
Butterfly hinges are one of the most common types of hinges and you can use them all over your home. Though they’re common on doors, cabinets, and shutters, you can even find them on decor, like jewelry boxes, music boxes, and trunks. Doors may have basic butterfly hinges, while the hinges on cabinets and decor may be more ornate.
A slab door is a standalone door that's not attached to a frame. A prehung door includes a slab door, a door frame, and the hardware necessary for installing it, like hinges.
No, you cannot install a door without a jamb. The jamb is where the hinges, strike plate, and trim are attached. A person could ostensibly attach the hinges to the door frame itself, but it would hamper the door from opening and closing like normal. Door jambs also provide crucial support for the door and security for exterior entryways.
Yes, new steel doors add value to your home. They improve curb appeal, increase home security, and make your home more energy-efficient. High-quality steel doors are durable, low-maintenance, and insulate well against hot and cold temperatures. Potential buyers often appreciate the added protection and aesthetic upgrade, so new steel doors can help your home stand out and increase its resale value.
