The property was almost devoid of trees, plants and grass. Their were sad ficus bushes that needed to be immediately removed. The house had great bone structure, but nothing to soften or accent it's beauty. It had a cold, naked, concrete look and there was no privacy. Additionally, the property's irrigation system was ancient and impossibly broken and the hardscape was inappropriate for the style of the house. Because of the scale of the house and the problems with the landscaping, irrigation system and patio and driveway, we believed a beautiful renovation was outside of our reach for many years based on our budget. For me, the landscape is so essential to enjoying your home so we interviewed several designers and landscapers to see if we could come up with some solutions, despite the extensive problems. All were talented , but Andy was the perfect fit for us. He was creative and sensitive to all of our aesthetic and budget requests. Not one of his designs apparently is ever the same and he incorporated so many beautiful palms and the colorful plants and vines I adore. Although he is very artistic and knowledgeable, his goal was to make us happy and he was flexible about incorporating reasonable changes even when inconvenient. He scheduled all our subcontractors so the process of excavation and installation was a joy. All the employees were so hard working and kind. Many friendly neighbors kept walking by thanking us for renovating the landscape in such a beautiful, colorful way because honestly it was a bit of an eyesore. Two of my friends immediately asked for Andy's number which I'm so happy to share. Honestly, we have had a few negative experiences with contractors which is so painful. Our dealings with Andy and his crew were such a gift. I have extensive experience dealing with landscape designers and contractors, and Legacy is first rate. Our home had water running into our basement whenever we had a heavy rain a problem that we experienced for about five years. It has progressively been getting worse over time. When Randall arrived at our home I found him to be very professional and straight forward. There was no slide shows, videos or sales pressure. Randall said that this job was pretty much straight forward and he explained how "Basement Master" would fix the leak. A week later Randall e-mailed us the proposal. Randall was always available by phone and e-mail to answer all of our questions. Basement Masters was not the cheapest estimate we received but was in the same ball park. Based on our interaction with Randall and reviews from Angie's list we decided to go with Basement Masters and we are very glad we did. The crew arrived at our home on time they were had working and very professional in the way they went about their work. I was happy to see that all of the excavation was done by hand (pick and shovel). I compared the work that was being done to the well written Proposal/Contract given to me by Randall. I found it easy to follow and the work crew performed each one of the nine steps as it was written in the proposal. The work was done in a timely manner. There are no negatives to that we can discuss. The work area was left in very good condition. There is no sign that dirt was pilled up in the yard. We have not had any rain since the work was completed so the true test has yet to be done. However, based on our observation we are confident there will be no problem. We are equally confident that if there is a problem a phone call or e-mail to Randall to be returned in a timely manner. Russ Berdeno, the owner of the company, came himself to provide the estimate. He arrived right on time (even a little early!) and went straight to work, managing to get further into my very narrow crawlspace than a home inspector or other foundation company estimators had gotten. He was extremely knowledgeable and graciously educated me about the type of foundation i had and it's parts, and suggested what kind of maintenance it might need. He seemed extremely honest, telling me why he thought some repairs that could be done if i had unlimited funds were unnecessary and what he would do if it were his own house. it was refreshing to meet a contractor who wasn't trying to over- or up-sell but rather who told me what was practical, beneficial, and economical without doing wasteful repairs. within a couple of days i received a written estimate via email with a summary of what we discussed and competitive pricing. if you're thinking of doing foundation work, definitely have RAD construction bid on your project! The consult provided helpful information about plants and re-organizing my yard. He informed me that the work I wanted done with the deal of moving some raised beds was likely to take more than the 2 hours and that he'd provide a discounted hourly rate. Richard himself is pleasant and helpful.
The work I wanted done was moving 2 large raised beds. Richard and a helper did that in approximately the 2 hours, including leveling the beds and moving a pile of wood chips. Blaine Window Repair Service came highly recommended by our realtor so I contacted them. They explained that their policy was to charge $65 for an estimate. If we chose to have service completed by Blaine, that would be applied to the cost of the project. There was a minimum one hour of labor charge - this part may or may not have been well explained to me. A very nice serviceman came to my house on the scheduled date at the appointed time. Very cheerful - he spent about 20 seconds with the window, said \"yep, you need a new balance,\" checked out the other windows, took the part with him (which I didn't fully appreciate at the time) and said we should hear back from them in about a week with a proposal. He said he didn't think there would be \"much to the repair\" and said it would be an hour of labor, tops. The proposal came in the mail about 10 days later...for $217.70. This seemed EXTREMELY high to me to repair a single balance in a single window. There would be no need to excavate into the wall, replace the window, etc. A new window doesn't cost that much more! So I called Blaine and talked to a woman in their service department. She said the minimum charge for a single hour of labor is $145. The replacement balance, I guess, with their markup, made up the additional $80. This seemed entirely unreasonable to me, so I asked if the original part could be returned to me, and that I would not proceed with Blaine. At this point, her friendliness dissipated some, and she said that they \"might\" be able to get it back to me in the next day or two. She checked the schedule, agreed it could go out with a deliveryman the following day, and that was that. The job was completed by another independent handyman for a fraction of the cost - $50 total, including the replacement sash, purchased at Home Depot. Although no work was completed by Blaine, the process left a bad taste in my mouth. Once they got down to the sewer line they kept us with sewer and water every night, which sometimes does not happen. They were conscientious with small kids. When they did the repair they pulled out the permits and all the licenses that were required and worked with the DC government really very well. They made sure that the repair that they did was done with the right speck as there was a good grade going through. You need a certain degree of drop from the house to main sewer so that it worked properly. They even repaired a piece that was underneath the pipe that was also in the wrong angle. They went above and beyond in finding and correcting everything with no extra cost. They supported the line appropriately. They back filled so that when it collapse there is no problem. Aquaguard came out to my property (a small 7-unit condo) to observe some recent water damage to the interior of a basement unit. They failed to arrive for that meeting, explaining that they had been calling a completely different telephone number than mine to try and ask for a reschedule. This should have been my first clue of what was to come. They rescheduled, and the estimator was apologetic and professional while observing the damage - even offering a discount there on the spot since we found them through Angie's List. They agreed to excavate a very narrow patch of dirt in order to re-waterproof the leaky wall. Per their request, I emailed them the current plat plan on file with the city (DC) and waited for them to obtain a permit to begin work. And waited, and waited. After almost a MONTH of being told that they were still waiting for the permit to clear, I decided to skip a step and call their permit expeditor myself. The permit expeditor confessed that she had made a huge error and delayed the permit from being issued, completely unbeknownst to AquaGuard. The permit finally gets issued, AquaGuard finally sends a work crew out (two days later than promised), they barely scoop one shovel of dirt, and pack up and leave after two days of doing zero work on site because they now decide that they cannot properly access the excavation area and insist on changing the scope of work to an interior sump pump. This means another 10 day delay. They finally show up to begin ripping out the basement concrete floor slab, and the crew works tirelessly into the late hours of the night attempting to get done as fast as possible - this is the one of two saving graces to this experience, that the workers did an exceptional job and worked as hard as their superiors demanded. The second saving grace is that AquaGuard replaced the water damaged drywall, studs, and trim and had it repainted for no additional fee to the original contract (which was for a more expensive exterior excavation anyway). As a final insult to injury, AquaGuard sent us a stern email asking where their second half of the contract fee was, depsite not having sent us an invoice for that fee as promised. The total construction was supposed to be completed two weeks from the first visit - it took TWO MONTHS. So, we will not use AquaGuard again for obvious reasons: their administration is horribly awry; they lack timely and appropriate communication with the client; they overpromise and underdeliver, even if trying to make up for it later; and they really left us in the lurch multiple times with no explanation. The workmanship appears ok but considering the entire experience, we will rate it only as \"so far so good\"."},"url":"https://www.angi.com/companylist/us/md/beltsville/aquaguard-waterproofing-reviews-214633.htm"},"position":9},{"@type":"ListItem","item":{"@type":"LocalBusiness","name":"Hart Shaped Pools","address":{"@type":"PostalAddress","addressRegion":"VA","addressCountry":"US"},"review":{"@type":"Review","author":{"@type":"Person","name":"DAVID P."},"reviewBody":"The customer service of this company is terrible--we felt left in the hands of inefficient, inexperienced people. The project began with the contract acceptance on September 22, 2008. The work was not finally completed until July 1, 2009. In the meantime, the pool had to be closed for the winter without being able to remove all the leaves from the pool bottom. leading to staining of the beautiful new cement. If we had not emailed to remind them of the outstanding items in 2009, I feel sure they would have never come back to finish the job. They did not call us--we had to call them. The workmanship of the actual resurfacing appears to be fine--time will tell, but from what I could see, that resurfacing seemed to go well--this is what the company seems good at. However, at each step along the way, that company seemed plagued by inefficiency and inexperience. It wouldn't surprise me if this was their first remodel job of an older pool. They redid the plumbing of the pool, excavating the old water lines and replacing them, and adding a line through the pool foundation to run the Polaris vacuum machine. The plumbing seems fine, but Hart did not come back level the excavated ground after it had settled--they did not leave the ground as it had been before, level, smooth, and reseeded. Secondly, and perhaps more importantly, they did not provide the water recirculation nozzle AND MOST IMPORTANTLY the connection for the Polaris until July 1, 2009, and this was after two preceding attempts. Each time they tried to attach a circulation nozzle, it had the opening of a hot-tub jet, not the opening necessary for the circulation of a 13,000 gallon pool! Their two tries with these jet fittings raised the circulation pressure on the motor 9 lbs. PSI unnecessarily, and had to be removed. To this day, the final jury rigged plumbing solution they offered jutted into the pool in an ugly, unfinished way. At least the one-piece \"street elbow\" that I fitted in place of their solution looked better and did not jut into the pool like a sore thumb, and allowed normal lower pressure circulation. This is what makes me think Hart Pools is totally inexperienced in restoring old pools--they don't know what fittings to use. The worst problem occurred with the Polaris. They took away our old method of running the Polaris (which we asked them to do), and then left us with no way to attach our machine to their new plumbing in the pool. Thus, all the leaves could not be removed from the pool in fall 2008, leading to some staining of the new cement. This was a simple fix they should and could have easily supplied in 2008. The choosing of the border tile was another exercise in inefficiency, which wasted much time. At contact acceptance, Hart emailed, \"I look forward to the opportunity of restoring your swimming pool. I pledge to diligently pursue the completion of this project...\". He did not fulfill his pledge."},"url":"https://www.angi.com/companylist/us/va/stephens-city/hart-shaped-pools-reviews-2187739.htm"},"position":10}]}

"I highly recommend DES! I arranged a consultation after a home inspection report indicated that there was moisture in our basement walls. I was worried that costly mitigation efforts would be required. A friend who had previously used DES for a basement water problem highly recommend them, telling us that they were an honest company that only does what is necessary to solve a problem. Happily, Mark Fine from DES inspected both our basement and our exterior grounds and reported that there was no indication of cracks in the foundation or water intrusion, and that no work needed to be done. It is so refreshing to have a company that doesn't try to sell expensive services when they are not necessary!"

We had a lot of work done around our house - including downspouts extensions, overland relief and gradient of our yard, small retaining wall and repairs of our walkway. Their whole team (including the owner, Adrian) was very meticulous, professional and the workmanship exceeded our expectations. They also delivered the project on-time. We have been so impressed that we are now looking to get more yard work from these team. We would highly recommend this company for your yard needs."

FAQs for excavation projects in Dale City, VA
Unfortunately, some plumbing scenarios, like a broken sewer pipe repair, will require excavation to complete the job. Plumbing excavation costs range from $30 to $70per cubic foot. However, if you need additional trenching, expect to pay an extra $4 to $12per linear foot. Keep in mind that these costs are on top of the plumbing repair costs, and they don’t account for labor costs. Consult your excavation specialist to determine an accurate estimate for your job.
The average cost for pool excavation is $2,500. This cost can range from $450 to $4,500, depending on the pool shape and size, time of year, and any need to move buried utilities.
When excavating for your pool, you might have to move existing utilities. You can expect to pay an additional $15 to $25per linear foot to move gas lines. To move a septic system, it’ll cost an additional $2,000 to $20,000. A pool that is 10 feet by 12 feet averages $450 to excavate, and a 20-foot-by-40-foot pool averages $3,020.
The cost for residential excavation is $3,200 on average, ranging between $50 and $200per cubic yard. Total costs could range from $500 to $15,000, depending on the project type, yard size, and soil type.
When a project needs an excavator, the contractor will subcontract one as part of the larger project. If you hire an excavation specialist, you can expect to pay between $40 and $180per hour. When excavating, if you have soil with excessive rocks or clay deposits, expect an additional cost of $200 to $1,200.
Warm weather seasons like spring and summer are ideal times to excavate due to the ground being softer and easier to dig through. However, it is important to note that bad weather, like heavy blizzard conditions or torrential rainfall, can prolong the project length, increasing costs. That’s why it’s best to avoid excavating during winter or hurricane season, depending on your home’s location.
While completing an excavation project yourself is possible, we don’t recommend it. You’ll likely need to buy or rent the equipment necessary for the job. This equipment costs as $100per hour or $2,200 weekly, increasing by as much as 50% for larger jobs.
In addition, completing an excavating job yourself poses a safety risk. If proper marking hasn't occurred, you risk hitting buried cables and other critical piping, like gas and water lines. Additionally, if working with excavation equipment, you’ll need to steer clear of any overhead wires. Leaving this project to an excavating professional is best.
