"David and his team were very professional and the work they did was excellent---we could tell the difference the next day. The temperature on the 2nd floor is several degree lower than before due to the new insulation and feels much more comfortable. David has solid knowledge regarding insulation and he explains things clearly. Definitely would recommend David and Prudent Homes to my friends and neighbors."

"Comfenergy was very professional thorough from the in-person estimate thru installation. Even though we didnt have a full energy audit, they still go over your entire home and tell you what should and what needs to be done. Some of the little things we did ourselves, or had our handyman. Then Comfenergy did the big part, seal and insulate the attic. We still had late 80's insulation and never a sealing done. It ended up being over an 8 hour project. They were not the cheapest estimate, but definitely the most in-depth review and recommendations provided. The two man team that did the actual work were very professional, showed us the work as the progressed, and good clean up job after all was done."

"After my call to Discount Energy Services, I knew who was coming and when to evaluate my attic insulation. The estimate was prepared on-site with pricing. The workers arrived and knew exactly what they were to accomplish, which they confirmed with me. They prepared the entire path with clean drop cloths and created a plastic drape around my attic stairs. The foreman was glad to explain any aspect of the procedure. My attic was upgraded to R-49 and the difference is notable."

"This guy called promptly to schedule an in home consultation and came promptly the next morning. I received a courtesy call from him saying that he was running 10 minutes behind schedule. When he got here, he was friendly, he evaluated my attic and determined that no insulation was needed. I tried to push him a little to say that we might need a little more insulation up there since that particular room gets colder than others but he insisted that adding insulation wouldn't help. I think others might have tried to get some work out of the visit, but not these guys. I would recommend them based on their honesty, fairness, and integrity."

"We have used ARS for a few years, beginning with purchasing a new heating/air conditioning system from them.  They are always efficient and professional.  They are very responsive to service calls.  They are generally punctual, and will call if they are going to be delayed.

"A 5 ' wide by 4' tall window was installed at front of house where there had not been a window before. When that was completed James Hardie plank siding was installed on the entire house. This included removal of vinyl siding installed by previous owner, removal of house wrap under the vinyl, and removal of the original vertical siding. Under that was insulation and the 2 x 4 studs. Insulation was replaced and any rotted wood 2 x 4's. The house was sheathed with plywood with Hardie wrap over that. Then the Hardie Plank horizontal siding was placed. It took 2 days to remove all the old sidings and sheath the house before the installation of the Hardie Plank which took about 3 and 1/2 days. Only hold up was weather. The previous color of the vinyl siding was a "canvas" color. Very nondescript. The James Hardie Plank color I chose is "Deep Ocean" with white trim. The house looks beautiful and feels so much more solid. The Hardie Plank has a 30 year warranty. The employees of Sunshine Contracting show a great deal of pride and care in their work and were responsive to any questions I had about the process."

"When Ted, the owner, came out to give us a free estimate, he went through all the options for insulation based on quality and price point. We settled on reflective insulation. The original estimate was for two-days' worth of labor to insulate the attic of our 2500 sq. ft. 1940s house. They did the work in one day, and the final bill came out to below the estimate! We are very happy with the results, and I would use them again. In particular, I really like working with their office manager, Nancy: she is sweet, responsive, and tries to accommodate your schedule, which is a huge plus for me."

Insulation questions, answered by experts

While fiberglass is dangerous to work with, it’s a perfectly safe material once it’s installed. If you’re tackling the installation yourself, make sure you take the proper safety precautions and wear the right gear to avoid skin and eye irritation and lung complications. Working with a professional insulation company can mitigate these risks.

The level of insulation is determined by both the material and the thickness of the door. Some garage door materials (such as wood) have natural insulating capabilities, while other materials (such as metal) do not. No matter the material, two-layer and three-layer garage doors have a higher R-value than single-layer garage doors, as insulation is fitted between the panels.

While insulation is required for all exterior walls in a house, it is not typically required for interior walls. Local and state building codes mandate that new construction homes have adequate insulation in exterior walls and ceilings to suit the local climate.

However, there are several benefits to adding insulation to interior walls. It is excellent for sound-dampening between rooms and can help with temperature control by maintaining a regulated temperature in specific rooms and lowering heat transfer between adjacent areas. Insulating interior walls can also contribute to the overall energy efficiency of your home.

Yes, you can install insulation behind drywall yourself, but only if your walls are not finished. If your studs are exposed, installing fiberglass insulation in roll or batt form is very straightforward and just requires a few tools and some safety equipment. If your walls are already finished and you’re looking to add insulation, it’s better to hire a professional, as you’ll likely need blown-in insulation, which can be dangerous to work with and a challenge to get into the proper areas in your wall voids.

It’s technically possible to install loose-fill cellulose insulation without a blower, but it’s much more time-consuming, tedious, and dangerous. You’ll need to wear the proper protective coverings to handle the cellulose after it’s been doused in boric acid; use a shovel when you can to transport the material from the bag into the wall cavity.

That said, if you purchase cellulose materials at a home improvement store, ask if they rent out blowers for free or at a discounted rate. In many cases, if you buy the material from the store, they’ll rent out the blower at no extra cost.
