"SafeStreets Home Security was a lifesaver! They had to troubleshoot my 3 floor townhouse unit, requiring many trips up and down the stairs. Finally determined that I needed an entire new alarm system but had all the parts and equipment available. Helped me program the app and set my security codes."
"We moved to Chevy Chase MD. I contacted three different security companies. By far Ultra Guard Security was the best. Andy was very knowable about security systems and not pushy at all. If looking for security system give them a call. You will be pleased."
"I used to work in the security industry. Once I got married and had kids I definitely wanted a home security system. Bought ADT about a month ago and it’s worked out excellent. No glitches or issues and everyone was awesome in the buying and activation process."
"Abstract was great to work with. I had one vision for the project, and they convinced me to go another way. They were the only company that actually asked me questions about what I wanted from the system, and took time to talk to me what my best options were. From the few proposals I received, they were by far the cheapest for parts and labor. But the end product is great - we've been happy with how the cameras look like and what they are able to record. Overall, very highly recommended for professionalism, care in working with the customer, and price for quality."

"Fox Trail Electric provided us with excellent professional diagnostics and service. Our pool pump disconnect blew when we opened our pool, and we contacted three companies for repair estimates. Not only was Fox Trail the best estimate, Brendan and Moses very quickly found the source of the problems that the other two companies missed; this gave us immediate confidence in their capabilities. They arrived just before the appointment time for the repair and quickly got to work. They encountered and diagnosed a quirk with the pool equipment being wired from separate meter services (main house and outbuilding) and installed the correct GFCI breaker for the wiring to the pool heater, which our home warranty company failed to resolve. They installed a mounting post and weather-resistant timer and disconnect for the pool pump and organized and buried the previously messy, tangled, above-ground equipment ground wires that are no longer a tripping hazard. Brendan and Moses worked very well together and were very neat - nothing out of place when they left. Top-notch problem-solving, and we will be calling them again for other work. I highly recommend Fox Trail Electric."

"I self installed our FrontPoint system. It went smoothly and my questions were answered efficiently and professionally by the FrontPoint staff. I would highly recommend FrontPoint as a home security system."
"They were very professional. We had been with ADT for years but they kept raising our rates so we decide dto look at other companies and ended up going with Security One. We didn't have to get any new equipment, pay any start up fee or sign a contract. The $39.99 rate will NEVER go up which was very attractive to us. They even reimbursed us for our last month we paid for ADT. They have worked out very well since we switched over and would recommend them to anyone. Thanks Security One! "
Home Security Systems questions, answered by experts
Yes, driveway gates can help secure your home by deterring burglars from accessing your property. Climbing a gate slows down burglars while also attracting attention to your gate. If you live further down your property and want to increase security, you can also install a gate security camera that connects to your gate and monitors the area for suspicious activity.
Leaving a light on at night probably does not deter burglars as much as we would like. While there isn’t much evidence supporting the theory that lights deter burglars, there’s not anything disproving it either. If you feel like it offers added security because a burglar thinks you’re at home, then you can set your lights to a timer so they go off and on at intervals, mimicking someone moving around inside the house at night. A better idea is to install motion sensor lights in your yard.
A study from the University of North Carolina found that security system signs were one of the top ten deterrents for burglars when choosing a target, so they do have some effect. However, you can get into legal trouble for putting up fake signage, so it’s best only to put up signs when you have the alarms to back them up.
You likely can reset your house alarm without the code, but it depends on many factors like how it’s wired and whether or not there’s a default reset code. Most companies make bypassing a security alarm without entering your code challenging to prevent burglars from simply resetting the alarm during a break-in. Your best bet is to contact your alarm company directly to get specialized support for your situation.
But, while you wait for support, you can disconnect it from the power source to stop the alarm from going off.
Installing a gate on your property is often a worthwhile investment, despite the initial expense. Gates enhance your home's curb appeal and can increase its property value, making them more attractive to potential homebuyers. They provide significant security benefits by keeping out unwanted guests and increasing privacy for your household. Additionally, a gate can help keep children and pets safely contained in your yard.
For driveway gates, automatic versions are particularly convenient and tend to add more value than manual ones. The choice of gate material also plays a role in both aesthetic appeal and security. Beyond driveways, side gates can improve accessibility to your rear yard, making the outdoor space more usable. Overall, whether for security, safety, or aesthetics, installing a gate is a valuable addition to a property.
