"Converted tub to shower, 1 day installation! Professional from start to finish, it was very smooth working with them. I appreciated how thorough and transparent they were in regards to pricing and timeline of the whole project. Not the cheapest of the contractors I got quotes from but their labor and materials came with warranty and 1 day installation was worth the cost. Plus, their quote was still a bit cheaper than other well known national brands that offer similar service. Highly recommend Renken!"

"Can not recommend WaterStone Kitchen and Bath highly enough! We are extremely satisfied with the quality of their work and recommendations. Jeff Thompson, the owner, is committed to making sure that you are satisfied. He worked through a number of difficult problems to make sure the end product is just what you want. The company is reliable, Jeff answers the phone immediately or gets back to you by the end of the day. WaterStone Kitchen and Bath is also very flexible, the design and extent of our project changed and was added onto several times and they took on the changes on board quickly. Jeff is also an excellent problem solver, he worked with our appliance company and the cabinet company to come up with a workable solution. Another advantage in working with WaterStone Kitchen and Bath is that you are only working with a single point of contact, Jeff has his own crews who do the speciality work. Again, if we have another project of this scale and scope, WaterStone Kitchen and Bath will be the first and only company we call."

"We love our new shower and tub that Noah installed for us last week. He was able to remove the old tub by himself and then worked through a downpour to make sure our bathroom was finished in two days instead of the planned three days. We will definitely be recommending Five Star Bath Solutions to our friends and family."

"Chris, a plumber, was professional, timely, knowledgeable and explained every step of the process well before he started working on it. There were some challenges with replacing my sum pump, but Chris found the way to resolve them even though it took him longer than expected."

"I wanted to upgrade my Master bath and boy did I ever! I had Gary and his crew at REO-SERVICEPRO gut my standard bathroom to a dual shower, steam sauna and spa! They put in new tile and added body sprays, heated floor, and towel warmer. It was my dream bathroom and REO-SERVICEPRO made it a reality. Great customer service and consideration of all my ideas, needs, and wants! I would recommend them HIGHLY!"

"Oral and his crew finished this extensive renovation on schedule and within budget. Gutted and replaced kitchen, new finished basement and vinyl plank flooring throughout the house. Did good work. Oral got us some really good deals on materials, especially the quartz countertops. We ended up using quartz as our countertops and as a backsplash in our new kitchen because the price was too good. He submitted all the proper paperwork to Fairfax County and worked with the inspectors. Oral as the project manager coordinates everything we needed to get the job done within budget. He came up with creative solutions to issues that come when you have a house 50 years old. He knows his stuff and really tries hard to please. We are going to be using him again in the future! His prices are good."

"Jose came to my home to provide a quote and was able to start work within less than a week of my decision to move forward with him. The drywall on the ceiling on the top floor of my home had some nails popping out and some cracks starting to form from people walking around in the attic to do some work. So Jose and his team repaired and secured all of the ceiling drywall in our kitchen, living room and dining room and painted it for $975. Then they installed wainscoting in our basement office (20ft x 10ft room) and it looks amazing (an additional $975). Then they patched about 6 or 7 holes in the drywall from previous electrical work that was done ($375), installed a solid pine door for that office which had no pre-cut holes or notches and painted it ($375), painted the office ceiling ($200), and installed a few baseboards and quarter round in the kitchen ($75). With the 10% off Angie's List discount it came out to roughly $2700. Jose's team is extremely skilled and everything looks great! I am going to hire them again in a few months to replace all of our crown molding to match what's our kitchen and install it in all the bedrooms and office as well."

Bathtub Replacement questions, answered by experts

While Medicare will pay for some bathroom modifications, it won’t pay for all modifications done to help make the room more accessible for older adults. Plus, the improvements must be approved in advance, or they won’t cover the upgrade. Check well in advance of construction if you have coverage for grab bars, walk-in tubs, wider doorways, higher toilets, and more.

Installing a clawfoot tub with a minimum of 6 inches of clearance from surrounding walls allows ample room for the faucet and pipework, makes cleaning easier, and reduces the chance of moisture being trapped between the tub and the walls. It might need to be closer if the faucet comes directly out of the wall.

Fiberglass tubs last between 10 and 15 years or more if they’re well-maintained. Proper care will help them last as long as possible. However, fiberglass bathtubs are prone to cracking, fading, and scratches over time. Bathtub installation by a plumber is one of the best ways to ensure your tub has the right support to last its full lifespan.

There are several ways to save money on a bathroom remodel through proper planning and savvy design strategies. To reduce costs, consider the following:

  • Purchase your own materials: Buy your own bathroom fixtures, hardware, and other materials to avoid contractor upcharges and delivery fees.

  • Shop smart for big-ticket items: Save on pricey items like tiles and tubs by shopping sales and at discount stores.

  • Avoid major layout changes: Keep plumbing in its current location. Opt to replace fixtures rather than moving them to avoid significant renovation work.

  • Focus on high-impact, low-cost updates: Make affordable but impactful smaller changes, such as upgrading hardware, installing new lighting, and adding stylish but economical accessories.

  • DIY where possible: Handle easier parts of the remodel yourself, like painting or installing light fixtures, to save on labor costs.

  • Time your remodel strategically: Consider remodeling in the spring, which tends to be a lower-demand time of year and may result in lower costs.

While tubs are fairly sturdy, you may notice cracks or holes. This kind of damage can happen from someone accidentally dropping something heavy into the tub. You might also see damage if you drop something heavy into the tub over and over again (like your extra large bottle of body wash). While you might only notice a small dent at first, this can later turn into a crack or a hole.

Also, certain cleaners that are harmful to your tub can cause damage. And if you have a fiberglass tub, you might see cracks if it was not installed properly with the right support.
