"I cannot say enough good things about Jose. His tile work is amazing. We purchased a condo in Washington DC that needed total refurbishment. (We live in California) Our daughter was to move into condo. I flew to DC to meet with Jose and review our needs. There was one problem after another in ordering appliances, I.e., that arrived damaged or wrong size. Jose was extremely patient (more so than me). We communicated daily phone/e:Mail. When finished the condo was beautiful and I realized how fortunate I was to find a contractor like Jose.

"The handyman, Tito R., was outstanding. He was experienced and knowledgeable with all aspects of the project to assemble and install various garage storage containers/shelving. He also offered a very fair price. Tito was punctual, courteous, friendly and very thorough. He listened to our concerns carefully and addressed them effectively. He went out of his way to make sure we were satisfied with all aspects of the garage storage installation. Tito displayed both expertise and a strong and personable customer satisfaction attitude. He and his team provided an overall excellent service experience. Tito treated our home with great care and working with him and his team was very easy. Based on this experience, we highly recommend Tito Ramos Home Improvements as your go to handyman to expertly assemble and install (including mounting to studs) various garage storage units."

"They did a good job.  He was great.  They did a really spectacular job.  We put on a new addition and it's really tricky to get the garage door.  They had to custom fit it and they made it work great.  I'd give them straight A's.  They had very competitive pricing. "

"Went wonderful with the contractor. They were great to work with and helped us navigate a very troublesome insurance company. They drove from northern Virginia to silver spring to do the work as well, not any easy task and a long commute in traffic. They were just great."

"It went very well.  This job took much longer than anticipated, a few unexpected problems were encountered along the way that slowed it down.  The ordering of materials took longer than anticipated and at times we were waiting for those items to arrive.  This was not the contractor's fault though.  The biggest slow-down was the shower glass installation, which KDK was not responsible for.  What was expected to take 2 weeks took 2 months for the shower installation, and Dave was constantly checking with us to see if the shower had been completed during the wait for the glass to arrive.

The biggest problem, as another person has mentioned, is that this is a very small work crew, a two man team and if one man is down for some reason things slow down significantly.  The workmanship was superb, and no attention to detail is spared, very nice craftsmanship.
Cost was kept to the contracted amount.  We added in an item at the last minute and received a very fair cost for this additional work.
Highly recommend!"

Unfinished Carpentry questions, answered by experts

Framing a house with steel generally takes less time—around five to eight weeks—than most building materials. The steel components can also be made quickly off-site and manufactured with pre-punched holes for running piping and electrical wiring, which will lessen the prep work and extra labor during construction.

Baseboards don’t have to be nailed into studs. However, nailing them into studs adds to their stability. When studs aren’t available, you can secure them with drywall nails directly into the drywall and adhesive. Always aim to nail into studs, especially in high-traffic or impact-prone areas.

Yes, ceiling joists are typically load-bearing. However, their primary function is to support the weight of the ceiling and loads applied to it, like lighting fixtures and ceiling fans. They can also help support the roof, especially if they’re part of truss systems. Remember, the load-bearing capacity of ceiling joists depends on the material, size, and space between them.

It’s sometimes safe to replace a load-bearing wall with a beam, but you need a structural engineer to sign off on the project. You’ll also likely have to upgrade to a steel I-beam or another material that’s stronger than wood to maintain the level of support you need without the wall underneath.

Most load-bearing walls are exterior, though they can also be interior.
