"Where to start, I love these guys they were respectful, courteous, they came and they worked very diligently. Lenny my project manager was a godsend and helped in everyway, even when we ran into a problem During the demo a water line was broken, and leaking for almost 4 days before we found it. I called Lenny and he handled it immediately and expedited. The company took care of all and any repairs, AND I DONT SEE THAT OFTEN! I absolutely love the siding, I've already had compliments and gave Home Genius future customers! If anybody needs siding, windows, or anything THIS is the company to call, I'm getting my windows from them in 6 weeks! On another not they weren't even afraid of 18 German Shepherds!"

"Made an appt. with Castle Rep, James, for 17 windows and vinyl siding. He spent 1 hour talking about how great his company and windows are before finally getting down to the issue. We were told that CASTLE makes and services their own window, with all the best technology and technicians available. The price per window for energy efficient came out to over $1,200 per double-hung window! And since they make their own products, we could not find a way to compare quality and price with other manufacturers. But his per-window price exceeds the average price of $500-700 by A LOT! When we balked, he made a call to his "manager" to see if we qualified for a "special promotional" discount. If we were to commit right there on the spot, we would get an additional 10% off! Still way to high. We said we would think about it (he got sad and snippy), and that we wanted to hear about the vinyl siding quote before we made any decisions. He told us he could not give us a siding quote until his company did an "eagle view" measurement, which would require another appointment! We had no intention of sitting through ANOTHER high-pressure appointment. High pressure, long-drawn out presentation and he would not leave us with anything in writing! No brochures, prices, nothing! He refused to put anything in writing and we could not have a break down of labor and costs. I even asked him if I could have a copyhh of the window warranty and he said "only if you purchase right now." And they did not come prepared with references or previous job locations! When we further researched the company, we found they did make very excellent products, but the #1 complaint was by far that they did not honor their lifetime warranty and that customer service was horrible. In the end, we chose not to do business.."

"The initial contact was prompt and professional.  Mr. Delgado came at the appointed time to pick up my chairs.  He is a very professional, polite, respectful businessman.  This was the first time I have ever had furniture reupholstered and I felt comfortable in dealing with Mr. Delgado.  He picked up my chairs on Thursday, July 24th.  I had to buy the fabric which was a difficult job for me.  I had to consult several friends and design shops before I settled on fabrics.  Mr. Delgado picked up the fabric from my home on Wednesday, August 13th.  On Thursday, September 4th I realized I hadn't asked for a target date for the delivery of the completed chairs.  I emailed Mr. Delgado and asked him for a possible delivery date.  He responded with a date of Friday, September 26th.  The date came and went without an email or call from Mr. Delgado.  I waited until Sunday evening, September 28th to email Mr. Delgado about the missed appointment.  At this point I'm getting worried about my chairs.  Mr. Delgado did email me on Monday, September 29th with an apology.  He had a family emergency and had to leave town.  He said that he would call me during the week to set up a new delivery date.  By Thursday, October 9th I still hadn't received a phone call about a new appointment.  I emailed him and asked if he'd rather not complete the chairs.  He emailed me with a new delivery date set for Wednesday, October 15th.  When he delivered the chairs all the anxiety I had about them vanished.  The chairs are beautiful having been very professionally cleaned and upholstered.  I have been given unsolicited compliments about the chairs by every visitor to my home who was familiar with the chairs from before and by some who were seeing them for the first time.  I would have given Metropolitan Restoration Center an A for Responsiveness and Punctuality if I had received a phone call or email about the missed appointment or a rescheduled appointment.  I would use him again with a better understanding about prompt communication.

"We contracted with Castle for window replacement in January. The windows were replaced within 2 months of signing the contract. The installations went smoothly and the windows made a huge improvement to our home. Problems did arise when they were unloading the windows from the truck. We had requested contoured grilles but the windows arrived with flat grilles. We opted for a discount rather than return the windows. The second issue was that we had requested full screens for the front of the house. Castle sent someone out measure after installation, not using the original measurements. This was 2 months after the fact. Then we received a call from the factory, that the order had been placed without the measurements. We had to supply them. 3 months later, we have still not received the full screens. We had an appointment for their install that Castle cancelled due to a technician calling out. Rescheduling was set for another month out. It will be a generous 4 months from the original installation to get the screens that we ordered. Pretty disappointed. For such a minor fix, it has taken too long to correct."

Window Shutters questions, answered by experts

Wood is the most classic shutter material. Common options include pine, cedar, or brasswood. MDF shutters are also a more affordable option that retains the timeless, classic look. Composite shutters, mainly vinyl and aluminum shutters, have also become more popular over the years. You may also find steel shutters, sometimes referred to as security shutters, used on the exterior. Shutters also come in various colors and finishes, adding another layer of design flexibility.

Shutters are still very common in Southern, farmhouse, and traditional-style homes, especially those in warm climates who can benefit from the increased efficiency. While modern homes and designs tend to shy away from shutters, shutters are a timeless design style that will likely be around for decades to come.

The most popular estate shutter brands include Hunter Douglas, Budget Blinds®, and Graber®. Hunter Douglas shutters cost $20 to $26 per square foot and include high-quality hardwood and faux wood options. Budget Blinds shutters cost $20 to $24 per square foot, depending on if you choose natural wood or another material. Depending on the material, Graber shutters range from $18 to $24 per square foot.

Not all windows are suitable for shutters, as certain styles can prevent them from functioning correctly. It's best to avoid installing shutters on bay windows, picture windows, dormer windows, and double-mulled windows. Shutters are better suited for large, full-size standard windows or French doors.

Additionally, consider the room's lighting needs. Since shutters effectively block light, they are an excellent choice for rooms where you want more darkness and privacy, such as a master bedroom or a main living room. For window types that are not ideal for functional shutters, some homeowners choose to install fixed (non-functional) shutters to maintain a consistent look across the home.

The average shutter is designed to last 20 to 25 years. Proper maintenance for the type of shutters you have is essential for helping them reach their full potential.
