"Mr. FIX IT has a great customer service team that are very helpful and friendly. They keep you informed every step along the way! The installation team of Kevin and Eddie were very professional and possessed ultimate knowledge of their task. They installed a new "Jacuzzi Bath" converting my 40 year old bathtub/shower combination into a beautiful and modern walk in shower! It looks fantastic! I will say that the conversion was not cheap, but quality materials and workmanship never is! I highly recommend "MR. FIX IT" and would not hesitate to use their services in the future! Glenn Vestal Stafford, Virginia"

"Roger, Chris and John of the install team did a great job. Arrived on time and worked tirelessly throughout the day. The crew kept me informed of each step of the demolition and install process and let me take pictures so I could send family and friends. My home is 40 years old so we had a plumbing issue. West Shore sent their top plumber to fix the problem. Sorry I don't remember his name. They finished in one day as promised, even though they had to work well into the evening because of the plumbing issue. I really love my new walk-in shower."

"They guys who did the install were very professional and punctual. We had some rain delay so it ended up being spread out over 3 days. But each day the head guy would talk with us and explain what had been done and when and what was expected for their return. They did a fantastic job and our house looks like it got a much needed facelift."

"We are extremely pleased with the entire experience. The salesman was professional and very knowledgable. The contractor (Dave) worked alone and completely transformed our kitchen in a few days. Amazing! We totally recommend this company for cabinet refacing."

Plumbing questions, answered by experts

It is generally recommended to schedule a professional plumbing inspection annually for an average home. However, the ideal frequency can vary. Newer homes may only require an inspection every two years, while older homes, or those with a history of plumbing problems, benefit from more frequent annual checkups. Other factors that might necessitate more frequent inspections include having hard water or mature trees on your property with extensive root systems that could damage sewer and water lines. Regular maintenance helps identify potential issues early, preventing costly repairs, and typically includes checking for leaks, inspecting connections, and ensuring pipes and fixtures are in good working condition to extend the life of your plumbing system.

Building codes don’t allow homeowners or businesses to run sewer pipes and water lines in the same trench for safety and environmental purposes. If the sewer line started leaking, it would risk contaminating the water supply to your house, which threatens the health of you and your family. These lines need to be in separate trenches and may need to be separated both horizontally by around 5 to 10 or more feet and vertically by 12 to 18 or more inches.

When outside temperatures drop below 32 degrees Fahrenheit, your pipes are at risk of freezing. To prevent this, especially when you are away from home, set your thermostat to a range of 55 to 60 degrees to provide enough warmth. Maintaining this temperature can help you avoid costly water damage from burst pipes.

It depends on where the leak is coming from as well as your ability to stop it until a plumber is able to come over and permanently fix the problem. If the leak is under your sink or coming from a drippy showerhead and you can avoid using the fixture until your plumber arrives, this wouldn’t be considered a major issue. If you notice any water damage on your walls or other signs of a major leak, you should call an emergency plumber ASAP.

For a long time, copper was our only plumbing material option. Thankfully, that is no longer the case. Copper pipes have been used since the 1940s and became most popular around 1963. It wasn’t until the 1990s that PVC pipes became popular and began to replace copper pipes. Therefore, a house built before the 1990s without recent updates will likely contain more copper pipes.
