"These guys did a fantastic job from start to finish. John was very knowledgeable and gave me an honest assessment of my options and safety issues before giving me a quote. After they arrived, they setup a full containment system and removed about 300 square feet of asbestos floor tile in half a day, leaving my basement floor very clean. And it was a tough job, with tile wedged under walls, and carpet tack strips. I definitely recommend them - they were very easy to work with, very professional, and they got the job done quickly."

Biohazard Remediation questions, answered by experts

Mold grows quickly. It typically begins to grow on drywall about 24 hours after exposure to moisture or humidity. Drywall is a porous material, which makes it particularly hospitable to mold growth.

While mold growth begins after just a day or so, it can take a few weeks before the evidence becomes visible. Mold spores will typically appear on the drywall surface within three weeks of growth starting.

In mild cases of mold growth, you can DIY mold remediation with a simple cleaning using safe and natural cleaning solutions like baking soda, hydrogen peroxide, vinegar, or lemon juice. However, if the mold is larger than 10 square feet or you suspect toxic black mold, you should not do mold remediation on your own. Instead, you should hire a professional mold removal company to handle the job.

If you find black residue in your toilet tank, chances are it’s caused by manganese deposits from hard water and not mold growth. You can prevent these deposits from damaging your toilet by installing a water softener in your home, which also might improve the quality of your drinking water. You can also remove the deposits inside your toilet tank once every six months or so to prevent them from causing problems with toilet functionality.

Popcorn ceilings have fallen out of popularity for several reasons, though opinions on them can vary. The primary drawbacks include an outdated appearance, difficulty with cleaning and maintenance, and potential health risks, as ceilings installed before the 1990s may contain asbestos. As design trends have shifted toward sleeker, more modern finishes, many homeowners now prefer smooth ceilings for their clean look and easier upkeep. However, popcorn ceilings do offer some benefits, such as excellent acoustic properties for noise reduction and the ability to hide imperfections. Some also appreciate their retro charm or find them to be a cost-effective solution. Ultimately, whether they are "bad" depends on personal preference, safety concerns, and aesthetic goals.

PVC is not considered a hazardous waste in most areas, but regulations vary by location. If in doubt, you should contact your local sanitation department to confirm. The Center for Biological Diversity (CBD) has been working to get PVC classified as hazardous waste, so it’s possible that it will be considered as such in the near future. If it is, disposing of PVC will require the use of a hazardous waste disposal facility or transporter in your area.
