"Everyone was Professional. Crew showed up the day promised, hit the job hard, finished quick and they left the yard better than they found it after work was done. Watched the process the whole way through and the lead Forman explained in detail what they were doing the whole time. Great company for your foundation needs. Highly recommend"

"I had some concerns about my home's foundation so I had G.L. Hunt come out for an evaluation and possible estimate. Their estimator, Chuck Farmer, came out and walked the whole house inside and out. He took measurements, explained everything he was doing and checking, and was very professional and personable. It turned out that I don't need foundation work, but he gave me some recommendations specific to my home to help prevent problems. It was so refreshing to have a company just be honest. G.L. Hunt will be the first company I call if I have concerns. I highly recommend you call them first if you have foundation issues."

"They did what others said could not be done. They removed an ugly rust stain on our brick face as well as repaired the mortar on my chimney and even fixed previous mortar work to where you can't tell it was repaired. They also sealed most of our windows where the caulking was cracking and causing leaks around our windows. This team was great!"

"Hired him for a small project of replacing brick that was destroyed when replacing outdoor water faucets. He did the work at a much more reasonable rate compared to others. The wall now looks as good as new."

"Foundation Support Specialists were well represented by the crew, led by foreman Cornell, that installed 11 foundation piers at our home in September 2024. The team of 4, including co-foreman Lee and installers Zero and Angel, carried out well-coordinated duties that culminated in job completion on a Sunday. After reviewing with me (homeowner) the work performed, it was very apparent that they had exercised great care in leaving landscaping within and adjacent to the needed excavations as close to how they found it."

Masonry questions, answered by experts

You can use normal bricks as cladding for a concrete or clay pizza oven or as a base underneath one. Fire bricks or solid clay bricks are necessary for an outdoor pizza oven’s floor, and you can use clay bricks for the rest of the oven.

In some cases, black stains on brick are caused by organic substances like algae and mold. However, it's more likely that the black spots you're noticing on your bricks come from carbon from vehicle exhaust or soot. Black stains can usually be removed by scrubbing the brick with a brush and masonry cleaner or power washing.

Brick can increase the value of your home depending on the type of masonry materials used. Homes generally have a higher resale value when they have brick siding, and brick is also easier to maintain (and lasts longer) than other types of siding, which can motivate buyers to make an offer.

Just keep in mind, however, that although brick can up the asking price when you sell your house, the cost to brick a house is also more expensive than other typical siding costs—so you’ll invest more in the project.

It is possible, albeit a lot slower, to break up a rock using water. You would do this by freezing and thawing the water. You could create some initial holes or cracks in the rock, then pour water into the cracks or holes and allow them to freeze (so it's best to do this in winter or in colder climates). Since water expands when it freezes, this puts pressure on the inside of the rock and causes it to crack. You could continue to pour more water in and let it freeze to continue to break up the rock.

The material you use depends on how hard-wearing your steps need to be and what you want them to look like. The most common stone for exterior steps is bluestone. It’s hard-wearing and durable, and bluestone steps cost between $15 and $30 per linear foot. Limestone is also a popular option and is mid-range, costing $25 to $50 per linear foot. You should always consider the specific requirements of your project before ordering any materials.
