A chimney without a liner is not recommended. Chimney liners protect the surrounding structure from heat, reducing the risk of fire or structural damage. Just as important, liners prevent carbon monoxide and other toxic gases from leaking into your abode by guiding smoke and gases out more effectively. Remember, installing a liner ensures safety and extends the life of your chimney.

Common issues discovered during a chimney inspection or cleaning include creosote buildup, cracked liners, structural degeneration or masonry degradation, and obstructions such as blocked flues or animal nests. These issues are potential safety hazards that can lead to combustion problems or poor air quality if not addressed.

There are six main choices of fireplace inserts: wood-burning, gas, propane, pellet, electric, and coal. Coal fireplace inserts aren’t as popular as they once were because burning coal emits a lot of carbon monoxide. Any fireplace insert will require proper supervision, and it’s a good idea to install a carbon monoxide detector in the room for added safety.
