Small jobs welcome

"Project: Remove 3 windows (Home Owner). Fill the holes with stone. Vasquez Masonry is an excellent company to work with. They gave us a very good quote and kept in contact. They were quicker than any contractor we have ever worked with. From call to completion, the entire process took 3 days. Fabian was very flexible and easy to work with. I would highly recommend this company to anyone needing masonry services!"

"We are extremely pleased with the quality of work done by Eli and his crew. The quality and passion was evident in everything they did. Our neighbors have noted the beautiful addition to the front of our home and gone out of their way on praising the front garden border. In fact two of our neighbors want to hire them!"

Customers say: Quick response

"Very happy with the work that Martin did - ver thorough and fast! The main project was a concrete wraparound for our patio that included flagstones. He understood immediately what we wanted, and had some good suggestions for how to lay it out. In addition to that work, we asked him to pour two concrete pads: one for our trash cans and one for a portable generator. He also poured a concrete ramp for our shed. The whole thing took 3 days, and the price was great. Highly recommend him!"

"After reading stellar reviews on Morningstar Landscaping, I contacted Jodi because I am limited in my mobility due to back issues, but love and miss gardening. She came out for a consultation which was about 45 minutes, and had great ideas on building raised stone planters so I can comfortably sit and garden without hurting myself. Her crew was extremely respectful and cleaned everyday. Jodi definitely prides herself in her work, and seemed to really understand and care about my physical limitations. She educated me on what a Horticulture Therapist is, and come to find out, they offer more services than I knew. I had them install some outdoor lights and 2 electrical outlets in addition to the masonry work. She planted initial plants for now, because it’s still u predictable weather, but is coming back in the Spring to help me plant more, and teach me about the care. Jodi and her crew did a fantastic job, and were very caring people who also made me laugh for the duration of this project. Will use again for sure."

Masonry questions, answered by experts

You should generally drill into the mortar joints when installing shutters on brick. Mortar is softer, which makes drilling easier and puts less strain on your tools. It also lowers the risk of cracking a brick—something that’s a lot harder to fix. Mortar holds fasteners well enough for standard shutters, and if you ever need to patch the holes later, it’s a much simpler job than dealing with damaged brick. Just keep in mind that if your mortar joints are too thin or the hardware calls for brick anchoring, you'll need to check the manufacturer’s recommendations and adjust accordingly.

Brick can increase the value of your home depending on the type of masonry materials used. Homes generally have a higher resale value when they have brick siding, and brick is also easier to maintain (and lasts longer) than other types of siding, which can motivate buyers to make an offer.

Just keep in mind, however, that although brick can up the asking price when you sell your house, the cost to brick a house is also more expensive than other typical siding costs—so you’ll invest more in the project.

Handbuilt masonry fireplaces are likely what comes to mind when we think about curling up by the fire at the end of the day. But bricks in the firebox and chimney tend to be heavy, which is not ideal for homes with weak or damaged foundations.

Prefabricated fireboxes come with a full flue and chimney system, significantly reducing the price and installation time. However, if you need to replace the panels down the line, you are locked into the same model or something very similar.

The best way to clean creosote from brick is to hire a professional chimney sweep. However, you can use a creosote log to remove excess buildup between cleanings. You can also clean minor creosote buildup using dish soap or vinegar mixed with water.

Yes, it is normal to see some minor hairline cracks in brick or mortar over time, often due to natural foundation settling. However, not all cracks are harmless. You should be concerned and contact a masonry professional for an inspection if you notice cracks that are getting wider or longer, or if new ones keep appearing. Other serious warning signs that can indicate significant structural or foundation damage include large vertical cracks (especially those that widen as they go up), stair-step cracks, L-shaped cracks, and deep horizontal cracks. Factors like temperature changes, moisture, and structural loading can also cause cracks to form or worsen.
