"Highly recommend using Discount Fence! Roy was amazing- he is very professional and gave us some great advise. We wanted a fence that would keep our dog in the yard while still allowing us to watch the deer. Installation took one day, and Roy's team left no mess. Beyond happy with the quality and aesthetic of this fence!"

"The salesperson from Northwest Fence and Iron was very good and very competent. But I think a lot of it was, it was a busy time of the year. They probably over-committed themselves. The county commission changed their rules about my type of fence right before we did it, so it affected how much we needed and where it would be placed and that kind of thing. I had difficulty with Northwest Fence calling back. The initial visit was good, but getting communication with them after they that. They would send emails and it would be days before they sent something back. Then, when I called and spoke to that salesperson, I found out she hadn't checked her email because she was out of town or something like that. So communication was not that great. I had to initiate. They didn't call back, didn't call back, wouldn't respond, wouldn't respond...I'm pretty persistent, so I kept calling back. The work itself was very satisfactory. I wanted parts of the old fence to use for scrap. They had already put the scrap on the truck and were a little irritated that I wanted to keep it. They were my scraps."

Customers say: Quality work

"Our builder's grade, 8 year-old fence finally blew down in a storm. The posts were rotted. Silver Leaf put up our new fence. They were awesome to deal with from start to finish. In four days, they took down our old fence and disposed of all the boards. Theydug 18" hole for the new metal posts (no small feat since we have a very rocky backyard). They were very polite and communicative, and talked to us before and each step of the way. When my husband asked for some minor changes, they listened and accommodated us. They showed up on time each morning and left the yard looking neat each evening. We were very pleased with the whole process and the outcome."

"Old fence posts were unusually installed in a retaining wall and difficult to deal with. ATX was more detailed in inspecting the old fence than other companies I got estimates from before creating their estimate. Estimate/price was fair. Work/craftsmanship/materials were excellent. Owner and crew were pleasant to deal with. You must be patient with communications as owner handles office and construction."

Fencing questions, answered by experts

Fence pickets typically face out (away from your home or the garden that you're enclosing). Both the rails and pickets sit on the outside of a fence so that anyone passing by can see the finished side. Not only does the look increase your curb appeal, but it's also the neighborly thing to do when placing a barrier between two properties, even when you're installing a privacy fence.

The decision to add a dog fence to your property depends on several factors. A fence can be a good investment for pet safety, particularly in areas with hazards like busy roads. It helps contain dogs prone to roaming or those with a powerful hunting instinct, It also prevents accidents and neighborly disputes if your pet likes to venture onto their property. Also, by installing a traditional fence, you will also gain privacy. Some local regulations may also require homeowners with dogs to install a fence.

A silt fence should be buried in a trench that is 6 to 12 inches deep. A depth of at least 6 to 8 inches is necessary to prevent water and sediment from running underneath the fence. A deeper trench, up to 12 inches, provides better anchoring during wet and windy weather. To ensure proper installation, look for a red line on the silt fence fabric, which often indicates the correct burial depth. Always adhere to local guidelines and regulations; a professional contractor will be familiar with these requirements.

Yes, installing wrought iron fencing will usually require a building permit, as do all types of fencing. Building permits for wrought iron fencing typically cost between $150 and $500, and the price will vary based on where you live and how much your local building department charges. You may also need to pay for a property survey if you’re installing wrought iron fencing on your property line. This type of survey can cost around $500, but it prevents issues with building on neighboring properties, which can be much more expensive in the long run.

In addition to the fence itself, several factors can impact the overall price of putting a fence in. Consider these add-ons and necessary expenses when building your project budget. For example, additional cost factors may include:

  • Removing your existing fence

  • Land leveling and other site work

  • Tree and stump removal

  • New landscaping

  • Working around underground utilities

  • Painting and staining
