"We had a great experience with Cypress Shutters. Chase came to our home promptly with samples, pricing and took measurements. His samples were complete/we could see what we were buying, The pricing was outstanding. Chase told us exactly the cost and it was by far the most efficient and less expensive. He took measurements and confirmed measurements with his laser distance finder. The visit was followed by an email confirmation of the quote and expected day of installation. The shades were delivered, within the promised time, and we were called to confirm installation date and time. The day of the installation, Chase called to confirm that he would be to our home at the scheduled time and called again to give us a within 30 minute arrival time. Our custom window blinds and shades look great and Chase was an expert at figuring out exactly what will go with the aesthetic look of our home. The colors match our walls and functionality of the shades and blinds are just as promised. We are very happy and would highly recommend Cypress Shutters to all."

"Everyone at ARC Glass was very professional and courteous, especially the lady who took our order over the phone. They were prompt and got things done as soon as possible. We had to replace a broken window. They came to measure, then a few days later with a new piece of glass. Unfortunately, the glass was 5/8 of an inch too small on one side, so somebody messed up somewhere. But they were very apologetic, installed that glass and taped the gap, and immediately re-ordered the glass. They were back with it a couple of days later, and this time it fit, and they did a good job replacing it. They cleaned it thoroughly, which was nice. We felt they gave us a very fair price. Apart from the one mistake, our experience with them was positive in every way, and we would definitely use them again and recommend them."

"The guys came out and carefully removed three huge mirrors from our master bathroom because we were having counters installed. After they were installed, they came back to put the mirrors back up. We had a little issue, but Victor came right out to resolve it with courtesy and kindness and professionalism. He also did an amazing job cleaning the big window abobe our front door that is too high for me to reach."

Window Shutters questions, answered by experts

The average shutter is designed to last 20 to 25 years. Proper maintenance for the type of shutters you have is essential for helping them reach their full potential.

Wood is the most classic shutter material. Common options include pine, cedar, or brasswood. MDF shutters are also a more affordable option that retains the timeless, classic look. Composite shutters, mainly vinyl and aluminum shutters, have also become more popular over the years. You may also find steel shutters, sometimes referred to as security shutters, used on the exterior. Shutters also come in various colors and finishes, adding another layer of design flexibility.

The most popular estate shutter brands include Hunter Douglas, Budget Blinds®, and Graber®. Hunter Douglas shutters cost $20 to $26 per square foot and include high-quality hardwood and faux wood options. Budget Blinds shutters cost $20 to $24 per square foot, depending on if you choose natural wood or another material. Depending on the material, Graber shutters range from $18 to $24 per square foot.

Not all windows are suitable for shutters, as certain styles can prevent them from functioning correctly. It's best to avoid installing shutters on bay windows, picture windows, dormer windows, and double-mulled windows. Shutters are better suited for large, full-size standard windows or French doors.

Additionally, consider the room's lighting needs. Since shutters effectively block light, they are an excellent choice for rooms where you want more darkness and privacy, such as a master bedroom or a main living room. For window types that are not ideal for functional shutters, some homeowners choose to install fixed (non-functional) shutters to maintain a consistent look across the home.

Shutters are still very common in Southern, farmhouse, and traditional-style homes, especially those in warm climates who can benefit from the increased efficiency. While modern homes and designs tend to shy away from shutters, shutters are a timeless design style that will likely be around for decades to come.
